As it's just gone 5am and I'm bored at work I thought I'd try my first topic.
Fairly simple thread:

Could your job be turned into a (half-decent) game?

If it could, explain what kind of game it is (FPS etc), what you would have to do in the game to progress, who your enemies are (if there are any) etc.

Unfortunately the distinct lack of sleep I've had has stunted by creativity somewhat and is preventing me from creating an example from my job, so you'll just have to do the thinking.

Seeing as Diner Dash is a game, any retail job could be made into a game, and at the moment I work retail...so yeah it could

Office Nerf Fight. It would be like Gears of War, and Dead Rising, "Dead Rising" as in "everything is a weapon" - and the gears of war "diving" system.

I'm a systems administrator. Could surfing the web, flirting with receptionist and installing servers and networking be turned into a game.

Probably not :( It's not much of a job either to be honest.

The reason why I don't own any MMO's. Or work as a house painter.

I work at a french ISP's I.T... It could be a good game where you receive calls from several people, diagnose their problems, go to their office, fix their PC and then run back to yer desk to spend the rest of yer time on youpron... ... ...

I always thought your typical offic job could be turned into a version of Dungeon Keeper.

"Your workers are annoyed because the break room is out of coffee."
"Your IT Nerds are fighting with the Trolls in Accounting."

But if my job were a game it would be more like a PnP game, like this:

I take billing and tech support calls for AT&T. So I guess you could make a puzzle game where you have to string together certain phrases fast enough in order to avoid giving away credits.

Or maybe make a game about what happens when you've been at the job too long......

I'm a projectionist at a movie theater. My game would be Diner Dash meets Dead Rising. You would need to start the movies on time and perform super-cool wrestling moves to kick obnoxious people out.

Or you could make it "Movie Theater Tycoon."

I do believe they made a game where you're a kid who cheats in tests, and you have to sneak past the teacher to copy off the kid. The first 3 levels were average, and then crazy shit happens... hmm, maybe.

Mineral Title Agent ...

Hmm, a cheap point and click mystery adventure where you have to discover through a series of monotonous - erm I mean "zany" misadventures exactly who owns what percent of the mineral rights in a plot of land and then find ways of convincing them to let your faceless corporate dictators exploit it (ussually through the expeidient of "we'll pay you lots of money.")

I'd buy it. Well, rent it. Well ...

Haha.

I'm a teacher dealing with kids aged 9 month to 3 years.

I could imagine this as a WII game. you'd have to look out for babies falling, and eating poison stuff. Then you'd have little mini games like conflict solving where 2 kids are fighting over a toy, varying degrees of difficulty depending on wether or not you saw which kid had the toys first. It would sorta be like you walking around in the daycare and watching out for this stuff. Also, dealing with co-workers, romantic sub plot?

I could see there beeing some levelling aswell, maybe make it a race to become leader of the daycare?

Also, ingame boss fights are increasingly difficult diaper changes.

Random emergency when a kid breaks and arm or some similiar traumatic event.

Pro Mode: Nap time.

I've got two jobs so...

Nightfill Extreme:
Make your way up from the lowly casual to Night Manager or even President of Big W (Australian supermarket for those who don't know).

Do as little work as possible and be sure to listen for any managers coming to check up on you, once they do get to work. Stack shelves (bonus points for finding out of date stock), handle customer queries (the trusty "we are out of stock at the moment" wont always work) and keep the store clean. Be sure to get to work on time and in the right uniform or you'll be forced to deal with the resident asshole.

Basketball Referee Simulation Extreme:

A FPS type game that would suit the Wii best but could also be played on any other console.

Start reffing as a rookie on under 10s games and build up to reffing the NBA and Olympics. Get experience points for making the right calls and signals which can be used to improve such skills as your whistle blowing, stamina, and immunity to abuse.

Cop too much abuse and your character may have a nervous break down resulting in demotion to lower grades and comps.

Want to earn that little bit extra cash? Why not take a bribe or two and make a game changing call in the dying minutes of a grand final? Be careful, doing this too much may result in the Referee Association investigating you.

I can't think of anything else to add at the moment.
