Counter Strike Source Beta

I'm surprised that I couldn't find a thread already about this, I searched but couldn't find anything so apologies if I overlooked it.

If you're not aware Valve has released a new beta for CSS that overhauls a lot of the mechanics behind it (adds achievements and new gamemodes etc). What does everyone think of it? Personally I do not like it as it has become too much like Team Fortress 2 in my opinion, even using the same sound effect when it shows you the death cam image (YES! They've introduced a death cam system...). In addition they've introduced lifetime statistics (total K/D ratio, number of rounds won/lost and even total shots fired!) which I've always thought encourages camping and other unsportsmanlike behaviour instead of the greater good - i.e. before your stats reset each game so who cares if you sucked last round?

Lastly, slight gripe but then again it's a limited beta - There are very few servers that are jam packed (64+ gamers) so it is incredibly laggy.

Fair enough it is only a beta and stuff will be ironed out but I really don't like the direction it's taken.

Edit: Oh, forgot to say I think it's a limited beta so there's a limit of people who can play it so RUN, RUN AND GET IT NOW!

I'm still downloading it.

My main concern is whilst it's good to give players this update I feel there are far more pressing things they should be doing with their time.
The Left 4 Dead games are still full of bugs and glitches that have been in since day one.

Stop updating TF2 every 14.6 minutes and try fixing those games please Valve.

When I tried to play it, there were only 4 empty servers. So I really don't have an opinion on this.

I was wondering about this since i saw a few people on my friends list with css beta. I was wondering whan they were going to add achievements since they did it last year for day of defeat.

See this one I have never understood why they haven't implemented, they've already got them on the Xbox360 (and I presume PS3) versions of the game so it's not even as if they have to sit there thinking is stuff to "achieve".

I guess it must be something to do with the coding. Or else they are waiting for ep3 so that people have a reason to play the first 2 again.

There are generic achievements such as kill x number of people and there's other stuff such as defuse a bomb with 1 second later or defuse a bomb with a defuse kit in a situation where you wouldn't have done it in time without.

Then there's other stuff like "do over 95% of the damage to a player who is then killed by another person" and then there's "kill someone who has less than 5% after being hurt by other people".

...and then the downright impossible "win a round without any people being killed" i.e. everyone runs to the bomb site and waits there, receiving and returning fire without anyone dying! Or perhaps in the very unlikely situation that everyone runs the same way in a full loop when retrieving hostages so no-one is ever seen.

Just by what I have gathered from this thread and my own personal dislike of FPS games and their multiplayer communities that I have acquired as of late, I can safely say that I will not be messing with this at all.

I'm having waaaay too much fun playing CS 1.6 waaay over there -->
Source is 1.6 with training wheels and guns made out of metal...
I mean, they look real but fire like shit, vice versa for 1.6
Plus the headshot animation from 1.6 is irreplacable...
So screw Source, I'd rather play a game that requires skill...

God damn, Aw well im sure there will be alot of info on it later.

EDIT: Okay, I found a couple of things.

1# They fixed bhoping.

2# They sorta fixed surfing.

3# Tons of achevivements.

4# Deathcam Like tf2 mw2 etc.

5# Score board changed.

6# Very high textures but you can honestly not tell the difference.

7# Same shadow system from Episode 2 Engine.

8# New bomb explosion, More sexy.

So its pretty much the same game, With some graphic difs and acouple of bugs fixed, Things people are complaining about on the forums are,

No new AI.

No new weapons.

No Shield.

No new Skin for each team.

No new map.

But that just seems like nitpicking to be honest, Looks pretty nice, Its beta though, So alot more could be comeing.

Also i think the new update will break all the mods and custom maps..what with the new engine and requiring all the maps to be recompiled on OB settings soon. But that is just a guess.
