FI is Fucking Insulting. If you really need as much help as Fi forces on you, you're also not old enough to read, making her completely pointless anyway. For the first six hours of the game, you really can't go more than two minutes with out being interrupted to be told to do what you were already going to do. I actually rage quit because the game was constantly being interrupted.
you know that you could have just not pushed the button that makes her talk right? That is literally the only way that you could hear so much from her outside of a cut scene.
If that were really the case (it's not and I'll get to that), being constantly reminded that you're on a virtual rail tour set up by programmers who think you're an idiot makes it insanely difficult to get immersed in a fantasy that's supposed to be about exploration and discovery, unless you've got a very special kind of personality. Even by actively ignoring the prompt (if I remember right, it's a loud beeping sound, definitely not annoying - or maybe that was for the dowsing, also pointless and stupid), this invades your psych while trying to enjoy the game.
Also, there'd be the nagging feeling that you're missing something important, because even though most of what she says is pointless, there's bound to be that one tidbit of info that you really do need. So chances are that you're not going to ignore it no matter how bad it is, unless you're the same type of player who in an RPG would use up every single item they have in every single fight they got into. Special kind of personality.
Now, what you're not mentioning is that "cut scene" includes stopping you in your tracks for anything and everything up to: A) entering a new area to show you all the places of interest, 2) getting into a fight with a new enemy that may employ a new strategy, and D) ending a conversation with an npc which then requires you to take some kind of action (most of which are forced on their own).
60 to 80 percent of Fi's help does not require button presses, unless it's to skip or speed up the dialogue. Maybe this lightens up later in the game, further than I made it, but having that completely unnecessary feature at all is irritating - anything beyond the first hour is offensive. Text-based instruction is never necessary in a video game. That's what the manual is for, that's what the options menu is for, that's what your brain and fingers are for.
Idunno. Here's a brilliant video that can explain it better than I could. (if you've got 20 minutes to spare).
