If Nintendo weren't being so completely tight-lipped about the specs I could.

I wonder why they're not releasing them...

...because they suck?
And... that's when you lost all credibility.

"Because they suck"? Really?
While his lack of proof is laughable his insistence that the fact the specs haven't been shown yet could be a sign they aren't exactly impressive is somewhat grounded in reality. Of course it's no substitute for facts but it certainly explains people's uncertainty.

Oh I agree, it is a sign, but we cannot say it is a side-grade until they prove it.

..because the specs are inadequate, relatively speaking to the potential of the next gen?
As I said above, it is a possibility but we cannot act as if it is a side-grade until the specs are shown.
About the whole tight lipped thing though, while this isn't a normal amount of time is it a normal amount of time for Nintendo? I'm cautiously optimistic it's merely a matter of priorities within the company rather than a sign of failing.

Yeah, I don't know when companies usually show specs sheets.

I may be wrong but I think this is the first gen when people really cared about the specs of a new console. Before it seemed to be "PS3 is better than xbox lululul" but now more people seem to be taking an interest in what is truly under the bonnet.

If I'm wrong go ahead and say, I'd like to know.
Oh I didn't actually know, I was genuinely asking. But even if it is just a little more than a side grade it will probably do all right, not the mega success of the wii but it will do all right. Some people seem to be saying that only hardcore fans will get it and that casuals will skip it. When people say casuals I assume they mean kids but kids could be fans too. I know my little brother and plenty of his friends are absolutely eager to get it. People say that Nintendo betrayed their core fans but I think they're merely trying to get little kids on bored to make a new generation of them.

About why people suddenly care about specs? I'm not sure, especially since we're just caring about this now yet it's also probably when diminishing returns will be most notable. I think we all care about the specs right now because it will be a sign of what Nintendo's intentions are as far as their marketing goes. If they're too weak they're going after their fans and casuals, if they're impressive they're directly competing with core gamers who already have 360s and PS3s.

Any console that forces me to look at my controller is a failure right out of the gate, but I'm sure it'll sell like hotcakes.

Anyway, I thought the article was a good laugh with some valid points. Especially the whole "Batman: Arkham City on WiiU". Christ, that was embarrassing.

All I know is I'm a mild PC enthusiast and I'm going to get one.

Probably not their target market, am I right? :)
Actually from what I've seen a lot of the console gamers are planning on skipping it and some serious pc exclusive gamers have vouched interest in it. I think it has to do with the fact that PCs do everything consoles do but better (save for accessibility) so they don't need a 360 or PS3. But the Wii and Nintendo consoles in general don't offer the same thing as the other 2, they offer a complementary experience.

Also I know absolutely nothing about PCs but would love to get into PC gaming, the only thing holding me back is my total PC illiteracy.

That's exactly why I am getting it. I can play multi-plats on my PC, I'll get the Wii U for those "unique experiences" that you can't get anywhere else.

If you want help with PCs, make a thread or PM me. We at the escapist, will help you however we can.
I think that I'm going to try to sift through some basics before I start asking for help on here. Y'know help myself so people don't have to bother starting at the very beginning. Luckily by next year I should be a bit better because I'm taking a few computing classes at my school, we have the best technical classes and resources in the district.

Also have you heard of the Wiiviewr on youtube? His reviews are sort of hit and miss but he reviews the sort of B/C/D list movie tie in, casual and shovel ware games for the wii. Sort of to prove not to judge a book by its cover.

Actually, I've noticed that a big number of PC gamer are also owner of Nintendo system. Which makes a lot of sense.

Out of the big three, Nintendo is the one with the most and best first party titles (according to the opinion of the majority). And at the same time, Nintendo console usually get a different kind of games than the other 2 console, especially since the Wii. You won't see games like Little Kings Story or Red Steel on the PS360. At least not lots of them.

If you already have a PC, getting a PS3 or 360 would be mostly a waste of money. They have only a few exclusives. Most "must have" titles are multi-platform titles. You can play them on the PC.
But you can't play Wii or WiiU games on the PC (without emulating, which is usually buggy and it usually take a lot of time to make an emulator. And if the WiiU is 50% stronger than the 360, you won't get a emulator even in the next generation).

So if you have a PC and want to buy a console, getting a Nintendo console is actually the best choice. You get the best of both world.

I'm a PC gamer and I have a Wii. And the Wii is my favorite console of this generation. I don't miss the so called "hardcore" games since I can get them on my PC and I don't miss great games like The Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles or any of the Nintendo First Party games on the Wii.

Normally this would come off as bad... until you realize this was one of Cracked's editorials and not one of their articles.

While the articles are more based on research (though I do hear they get some things wrong at times), the editorials by some of their people like Christina, Seanbaby, and John Cheese, are either:

1) Their life.

2) Their opinions.

3) Their trollings.

4) Their trolling opinions (see: Gladstone).

And such you really can't take any of the editorials that seriously, this one included.

As it stands now I'm not getting one. There just haven't been enough good games announced for me to justify it yet, and I'm still not sold on that controller.

Maybe I'll change my mind closer to release when they hopefully show some actually decent games.

Pretty much this, Nintendo consoles are the best consoles to get if you mainly PC game, because you can get the vast majority of 3rd party games that you could get on Xbox/Playstation, for PC. Nintendo 1st party games tend to be the best ones too, I'd take Zelda/Paper Mario/Metroid over Gears of War/Uncharted any day.

I just hope the next game in the demon souls/dark souls series gets onto Wii U if it doesn't make it onto PC.

I'm probably not going to get one straight away, normally if you leave it a couple of months and look at reviews/what people feel like about it after the new console/game goggles wear off, and they still like it, it's worth your money.
