Sometimes in Dawn of War I play rather defensively with the space marines. Then I send a scout to the enemy base and teleport in 10 dreadnoughts and four squads of terminators. It actually works really well.

How is that even remotely possible?
You had some amazing luck there

I was playing Command & Conquer: Generals and I was on the final U.S. mission. In addition to starting with a small U.S. base (obviously) I was also given command over an abandoned Chinese base and I decided to use it to churn out a combined American-Chinese force. I then had the crazy idea of capturing a few GLA structures inside the capital city, taking back a few GLA Workers to my base and setting a GLA base to aid my forces. I came up with the crazy excuse that these were renegade GLA forces that were tired of the radical agenda of the group and sickened by all of the civilians that the GLA had killed. I then amassed an American-Chinese-GLA force and built up all of the superweapons of the three major powers in the game and proceeded to annihilate the last GLA stronghold. It was all entirely unnecessary, but it was also amazingly awesome.

I was pinned into my own corner of my continent by a much larger and stronger country in CIV 4. It was basically a hopeless situation, so I rained Nukes down on them and got destroyed by the other Civs.

In one of the old Age of Empire games, the AI was programmed never to attack your gate, only your walls, so I would destroy the gate into their city then build my own in its place, Their troops could never leave and I could just fuck with them from then on.

Oh yes, on red Alert 3 I played against normal and easy AI as the russians and destroyed all the enemy bases using about 20 iterations of Natasha.

Oh, on CnC 3 there is a bonus objective in one mission to complete said mission using only the commando.

I have AoE 1, my brother has AoE 2, both the full editions with all the expansion packs too. On both of those, whenever I get bored of doing the same missions every time I fire up the game (though they are great games), I use the cheat to get the Laser Car. It's so much fun just zooming all around the map firing lasers at things and wiping out entire medieval enemies with a Ford Mondeo or whatever... :D

I had managed to vaporize 2 of them in shooting right before I charged (Plasma pistol and meltagun). Then just got extremely lucky on my close combat rolls, aspiring champion with a power fist helped out a little. Killed the last three, and only lost half my squad... Promoted the champion to my chosen squad after that battle.

Haha, that's pretty damn good :D.

On the subject of Warhammer 40k, I wasn't there to see it sadly, but two friends of mine were fighting a few years ago, in a 1500 point battle between Necrons and Space Marines. The Space Marine player managed to get first turn, and ended up taking out a Monolith, which accounted for most of the Necron guy's troop points, in the first turn. With a single Lasrifle shot. He got exceptionally lucky with the dice roll...

On megalomania I built a huge squad of fighters (aeroplanes) and got defeated by medieval guys throwing boiling olive oil from the defense towers of their fortress (I be damned if I know how could they manage to throw it high enough to hit the planes and how did it damage my planes).

Now that is a blast from the past. I used to love that game and the soundtrack (Ares, from Holst's the planets)

I once played Dawn of War against two mates and I just let them fight it out while i maxed out a force of marines with no tanks or special units, just raw firepower. I marched across the map and destroyed one base while they scrapped it out. After that they formed a quick alliance and ganged up on me only to be totally destroyed by me pretty much marching non stop through them and winning a crazy decisive victory.

Needless to say that only works once.

Thats really funny because I had a similar experience. I was fighting Necrons and 2nd turn he deep strikes his monolith and it wiped out my missile-equipped havoc squad. So on my turn I deep strike in my Obliterators but scatter just outside that lovely 6" melta range, so I take 3 shots with lascannons instead. First shot, penetrating hit, and the monolith explodes. I never get that lucky whenever I have to fight a Leman Russ.

Ha!

OT: I had a situation not unlike this, expect it was my 5 man marine squad against a full-health Trigon. My marines took it down without receiving any wounds themselves. Luck o' the dice eh?

Heroic pikes!

I always hated that about Civ. PRetty much why I changed to Total War. Peasants won't be Spartans... unless they're elite Gold super rebellion stack.

ANyway, The craziest thing I've done is... eh, nothing. but I once saw a guy have a migration campaign with Armenia in Rome TW and he traveled all the way to the british Aisles. it's somewhere in teh ROma Surrectum section on the Total War Center website/forum. I thought that was pretty awesome. I'll try a campaign like that with the Turks in Medieval 2 once i win teh game as the Holy Roman Empire and get unlock all the factions(I'm NOT going to edit the files!)

Moving back onto Rome: Total War, I recall after a few defeats my army (back when I started playing it, in the Tutorial Campaign) were retreating to garrison in one of my settlements. All that was left were a few units of Hastati light infantry, and a single unit of Cavalry with my general. I ended up in further skirmishes from Gauls and Rebels as I retreated, and each time I managed to just send my cavalry in a wide charge and hit every enemy army from the rear, regroup and repeat, until I won. No need for my infantry whatsoever, I ended up beating a path back and only lost about 5 men and horses in total in all that time. Good tactic to use when you're at your last reserves of strength and you need to retrain an army without enough time to do so...

In a destroy-builders game of supcom:FA, my weak commander was under attack by 2 soul rippers (he took out my damn mexs) so I teleport him into the middle of their base and he blows up. Needless to say, we were both down bases and my remaining forces finished his soul rippers off :D. Crazy stuff like thath appens all the time in forged alliance.

Also, in medieval total war, somehow managed to have 4 turrets garrisoned with 2 archer units and 3 average spear units, and fended off a 1000+ army (with less than 300, THIS IS SPARTA!!!) My archers dominated, then I had a little semi-circle set up at my main gate and they just filed in and died.

Hehe I've done that. Hell one of my best units was the original Melee guy (the club one?) in a city defending it. Beat a tank.

And this might be lightly off-topic (but this is probably the best place to ask) but I'm wondering which is better. Empire: Total War or Napoleon: Total War?
