In a lot of areas in the States it is illegal for cyclists to ride on a sidewalk, regardless of how wide it is. Bicycles are considered light vehicles and sidewalks are pedestrian only.PhunkyPhazon said:

Haha - don't let it bother you. If you are on the the part of the road were cyclists should be, signal when you turn, and are aware of the cars around you you're not doing anything wrong. It's just drivers trying to take out their frustration at anything that may be bothering them on you -- cyclists are easy targets for road rage. \
I just love giving them a, 'lolu mad?' face and a nice friendly wave as I roll on by them when they're stuck in traffic/stoplight/sign lines. Ah, so satisfying.

I got hooted at angrily by a Taxi driver because I was cycling ON THE CYCLE PATH at the side of the road. I'm a really mellow guy but that just made me really angry.
City streets were not designed for cyclists, there is an area for cars, an area for pedestrians, and cyclists come somewhere in the middle, so whatever you do someone will be angry about it.

Just let the car,s pass and try to remain at the most right side of the road.

Personally I've found, in America cyclists tend to be self important asses with litte regard to the idea of "sharing the road". Sorry, cars should get the right of way simply because they are bigger, heavier and will kill a cyclist if they get in the way. I've been cut of by a group of cyclists while on my motorcycle. If you want a great way to piss off motorists, cut them off and then treat them like they're the asshole.
As long as you're following the regulations for bikes in your area (Or if you're bending/breaking them in a specific situation there's a safety related reason for it), then I say tell them to get bent.
