Create a new Star Wars movie!

Star Wars is a hugely influential franchise with an extensive expanded universe (that is an understatement). Now let's say a new star wars movie is being made, not necessarily a sequel or prequel, you could call it a spin off I suppose. What kind of film would you want to see made? When would it be set, would it have existing characters, is it game/comic/book adaptation or something original?

I would like to see something set during the new jedi order era with the Yuuzhan Vong as the villains. Or maybe an adaptation of the legacy of the force series of books with Jacen and Jaina Solo.

In any case, it would be really cool to see another film in the Star Wars series, preferrably without much input from George "franchisicide" Lucas. It is possible (they did make that piece of shit "The Clone Wars" after all) but highly improbable.

The EU is geared towards Star Wars hardcore fans, but it does not have compelling character arcs or wide audience appeal. Any movie set within the EU universe would be critically panned and a box office failure because people are already wary of the prequel trilogy.

If you could write a compelling Star Wars script with interesting, deep characters, it might work. Lucas isn't big on depth, neither are many hardcore Star Wars fans, and neither will give up the reigns on what they feel is "their" series.

Not gonna happen for 20 years...

I think basing them on the Yuuzhan Vong wars would be good. That, or the saga with Darth Caedus. Lots of character development going on in those two, and lots of notable character deaths as well.

I don't think they should do them as movies, though, there's too much stuff going on to shove it all into 2-3 hours (or even as a trilogy), a series would be more suitable.

Failing that, it would also be cool if they made a game based on that time period, unlikely as it is to actually happen...

Putting the x-wing novels and/or comics would make for a brill movie. Also I did like some of those anthology ones such as Tales of the bounty hunters; the IG88 sequence of events was fascinating and yet disturbing.

Making the first one much more plausibly good, rather than a small conflict over paying taxes. The Pod-racing can stay but we find a new Anakin.

That or we have a spin off, following someone who can not use the force but wants to fight in the clone wars, having him leave and sneaking off into war wearing the clones army, only when he actually fights, the clones lose and become the only survivor when a massive battle takes place.

I dunno, I'm improvising here.

Impossible to make. Star Wars has been flooded with so many crappy books that Lucasarts(or whatever it's called) decided to make official and ruined the SW universe. (Goddamn you Karen Travis!!! You KILLED MARA JADE!!! Burn in Hell!!!)

Making a movie based off of the Timothy Zahn books would be pretty badass. But ONLY the Timothy Zahn books.
