"Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power, and I'd rather be a miserable ruler than a joyful idiot." That's just me though. And really, so many people suffocate their curiosity that some have stopped seeking understanding. They've gone against their biology in exchange for some modicum of comfort afforded by having someone else make all their life decisions, so they don't need to understand anything.

"We all want the truth, but we take lies and call them truth and say every one else is wrong"
We all say we want the truth at least...

It means you're focusing all your latent mental prowess on making a cool little story to keep you amused? And probably you like wolves?

Heh, that's certainly a very chillaxed attitude... I wish I could go with the flow, I'm too curious for my own good, I'm always trying to figure out the "why" AND the "how" (I need both!)
Yes, I look for the how's and why's for things as well, or else I wouldn't have come up with this! But going with the flow can also be bad... sometimes you need to carve your own path! But for me, right now I'm fine with flowing, my life's going pretty good :D"

Besides, weird is fun, normal is boring!
Another thing I thought of... I agree! I'm usually acting weird or random... I like to crouch slightly, back bent, swinging my arms slightly with a half maniacal grin on my face sometimes... and other such stuff! Also, do we actually have a 'normal'? What is 'normal'? Is it, fitting into one of society's many stereotypes?
Pshaw! Even the stereotypical people are pretty weird once you get to know them. They're just better at hiding it. But it's more fun to let loose and just do all those crazy things, to just ignore the stereotypes, y'know? *looks back at your post* Actually, it seems you do know xP

By the by, sweet avatar.

"We hate most vehemently that which we are. People always find fault in a mirror."

This is based on my observation that people tend to be most disturbed by bad behavior in others that mirrors their own character flaws - e.g., the self-centered are the first to take offense at someone putting themselves first; liars are insulted by lies more than anyone else; gossips think the worst sin is someone talking about them behind their back. Sometimes it's funny, especially if there's a glimmer of self-awareness. Most of the time it is sad.

Where are all the infamous Escapist wordsmiths? Does no one feel inspired to create something surprisingly beautiful? Or something devastatingly depressing?
I think they're all getting me back for the thread I made a while ago asking if low content replies bothered people... and about a hundred people replied with "no". It's so obvious in hindsight. Also, karma's a *****.
Ahaha... That she is...

Allow me to change my off-the-cuff quote slightly:

"Humanity is hard-wired for despair. Our biology drives us to seek understanding, and understanding is the root of all suffering."

I didn't mean to imply that every individual applies their life to the pursuit of understanding; rather that it is the fate of the human race to progress through developing a deeper understanding of the Universe, and that the ultimate effect of understanding is to strip away concepts of individuality and meaning until the human narrative ceases to be a narrative at all, and we are forced to confront the nature of our true place in reality.

Famous people throughout the ages have often said witty quotes that many people, often less witty, have repeated. Now it's your turn. Don't choose a line said by somebody else, instead make one up yourself; it doesn't have to be inspiring or funny, in fact it could be de-motivational if you wish, but try to make it powerful. Make it a line worth quoting.

Here is mine:

"Logically there is a limit to how far we can reach, there is only so much we can achieve. But if humanity was a logical race there wouldn't be so many alien sightings; it is the genius in our madness that lets us break these limits."
I use this one quite a lot.

"You know you can whine and ***** all you want about how it's someone elses fault, but in the end your the one who chose how to live your life."

People usually stop whining after that.

Ah, now THAT is a powerful quote. But really is our true place in nature so bleak? I came to terms with what I believe it to be (that humans are small and insignificant to anything other than ourselves, and meaningless except for the meanings we create), and I live a very happy life. Not faux happy either, genuinely excited simply to be alive.

"The world is boring, do something to make it interesting. Preferably something reckless. Or I will. Whatever suits you."

"People are a lot like airports, they all have baggage."

"If you plan out your future to every detail, what is the point of living? To complete one goal after the other? What happens when you have no more goals? What happens when your life is completely perfect as you envisioned it? How long will you be happy?"

"A man is nothing but a miserable pile of lies that stumbles through life follow all the rules set up around him. So by that degree if you refuse to follow those rules you are a god. Come and join me. Become a god."

Finally, "No, I'm not American or Washingtonian. I'm not even North American. I am a human, what we all are. Alas, people will always put aside this fact and kill each other and hate each other. Our world would be better if they didn't."

Okay that last one kinda sucks. I was running out of ideas.

De-motivational: "Look, we can't all be special, otherwise there would be nothing special about our specialness. Fact is, most of us are pretty worhtless. Hate to break it to ya like that, but that's how it works."

Motivational: "We can sit here on our ass, day by day, doing the same shit we've been doing every other time we're here. But there is a big world our there that's just calling for us. I don't know about the rest of you, but fuck this repetitive mediocrity. I'm going out there to enjoy life."
