A Pseudo Dragon from D&D. Would be the most awesome pet ever!

(It's a 2 foot long dragon with a poisonous stinger in its tail, chameleonic scales, and is a clever and faithfull companion to the right owner.)
Why would you want a pet that sits on our shoulder when you could have one that carries you around (and can destroy a city block as easily as breathe) GO GIANT HYDRA

Mainly because BIG creatures tend to attract lots and lots of attention from people with large amounts of ordnance.

A subtle pet can be much more useful if you are not entirely focused on short-lived destruction. ;-)

As long as I could keep it as a pet, I think an Aptorian from the world in Stephen Erickson's Malazan Tales of the Fallen series would be pretty sweet.

Awesome. I also really like the idea of the Bugblatter. I forgot about him.
Yay for the Bugblatter, Jackalope alliance of 1462.

Hrmm.. the Babel Fish would be a wonderful way to make the world a worse place to live ;)

I am rather fond of the Werewolves in the Dresden Files.. and really a lot of the monsters in that series.
