This applies across the board in film, books, music and games of course.

I'm Indie Pop/Rock kinda guy and I don't get 'The xx', 'Tv on Radio' someone explain them to me please.

Also 'The Graduate'(too American?) though Ebert did retract his review later. Also why did Zooey break up with the boyfriend after watching this in 500 days of Summer?

I think Animal Collective and Panda Bear are freaking terrible, and I don't understand why they receive so much critical praise - it's all just shitty noise

I can't understand why people make such a fuzz about Jane Austen novels. And let me make one thing clear: I like Jane Austen novels, I just don't think they're the best thing since sliced cheese.

Spider-man 2. I thought that movie was really dumb. I mean, I think spiderman is dumb in general, but I enjoyed the first one. The second one was funny and bad. The third one.... oh goodness. Lets just say I'm happy Sam went back to horror with dmth. VERY. HAPPY.

I don't get why people love Halo. I also don't understand the love for Left4Dead... And plenty of other games now that I think about it.

Outside of gaming I generally like popular things, but I don't get the appeal of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings... I can see why people like them, but why they're so incredibly popular I just don't see. Personally I find them boring but that's just me.

I stay away from current FPS games, like the Halo games, MW2, and other games like that. If something is that overhyped, I'm put off from getting it.
I'm in the same boat. I've tried every hyped shooter of the past few years (Halo, Gears, Cod, BC2) and none of them have paid off.

(I never saw a single ad for L4D so I tracked it out of personal intrest so that doesn't count.)

Twilight, Harry Potter, stupidity...
Other people thinking some FPS are stupid... Especially Gears of War...

I just don't get it. At all.

AVATAR
oh DEAR GOD, Avatar. A thousand times over, Avatar.
Critically acclaimed (to some degree), rabid fanbase, and yet, I disliked it. But BECAUSE of the overhype and stubborn jackasses who state it's the resurrection of God, my dislike turned to absolute hatred.
I loved it but even that managed to turn to hatred. Really don't get what the fuss is all about anymore.

Thousands of people went into depression because they wished they were blue (best friend included) >.<
I don't think any film deserves that kind of attention unless it's the best damn thing ever created, after all it's just a damn film

I must agree. It was entertaining, but dear Lord, did people try to make it a masterpiece that it wasn't.

I also don't get Titanic, the novel War and Peace, and Green Day, among other things.

I found Portal unfunny, the puzzles insultingly easy and although there were aspects I did like the whole thing was incredibly short. I did like the song, however. I can just remember my heart deflating over the credits as I thought "what? That was it?"

I can see that. Though I enjoyed the film in some ways, I can't get over the idea that it's Dances With Wolves with CGI. Man becomes involved with tribe, grows accustomed, doesn't want to return, defends them when man's army attack. Even the characters are the same, Lt. Dunbar is Jake Sully. Their love interests that are OMG CONTRAVERSIAL, Stands With A Fist - Neytiri. Even the dickhead chief warrior who hates the protaganist at first but warms to him, Wind in his Hair - Tsu'tey.

It's practically a remake. A re-imagining, at least.

Well as for The xx, overall I don't think they're that great of a band technically, but there is a subtle charm in their simplicity and the emotion they put into their music.

TV on the Radio to me is like a more modern version of soul/funk music from the 70's like James Brown and Earth Wind and Fire. They've got fun songs with a good rhythm and they're all really talented musicians... Had a chance to see them live, but my girlfriend passed out while Grizzly Bear was opening for them and we decided to leave.

I can see where you're coming from to a degree, I honestly hated their latest LP, mainly because I hate synthesizers and they pretty much dedicated that entire album to using synths. Strawberry Jam that came before was amazing in my opinion. I loved how they gradually layer instruments to create a joyous wall of sound. It's just fun, lighthearted music I guess.

I could just be talking out my ass though.

OT: I can't see why people like fighting games so much, especially Street Fighter. I used to love playing Street Fighter 2 on the SNES while growing up, but trying to play Super Street Fighter 4 now, I just get bored and frustrated. Really, I just don't like any kind of competitive gaming. Racing, fighting, online FPS, not my thing.

The Great Gatsby sucks. If you like it, your lit teacher has successfully tricked you.

I dislike F. Scott Fitzgerald's work with a passion.

What is the type of book that fits into?, is it a "Time peice Drama", I hate every single one of that type of thing, whether book or film.

Jane Austen was ahead of her time, thats why people like her, she was the original spice girl.

Always gets me how Mr Darcy calls a woman "Handsome"

I don't really "get" the Final Fantasy series. I mean, the early games were enjoyable for what they were, but the last four or five releases have left me scratching my head, I just didn't get what they were trying to achieve.

Anything that gets a lot of hype puts me off, simply because 99 times out of 100, it will disappoint.

Oh, Comedy movies in general in the past 5 years. The Hangover, Knocked Up, and that whole crew. I don't find any of them funny in any way.
