This applies across the board in film, books, music and games of course.
I'm Indie Pop/Rock kinda guy and I don't get 'The xx', 'Tv on the Radio' someone explain them to me please.
Well as for The xx, overall I don't think they're that great of a band technically, but there is a subtle charm in their simplicity and the emotion they put into their music.
TV on the Radio to me is like a more modern version of soul/funk music from the 70's like James Brown and Earth Wind and Fire. They've got fun songs with a good rhythm and they're all really talented musicians... Had a chance to see them live, but my girlfriend passed out while Grizzly Bear was opening for them and we decided to leave.

I think Animal Collective and Panda Bear are freaking terrible, and I don't understand why they receive so much critical praise - it's all just shitty noise
I can see where you're coming from to a degree, I honestly hated their latest LP, mainly because I hate synthesizers and they pretty much dedicated that entire album to using synths. Strawberry Jam that came before was amazing in my opinion. I loved how they gradually layer instruments to create a joyous wall of sound. It's just fun, lighthearted music I guess.
I could just be talking out my ass though.
OT: I can't see why people like fighting games so much, especially Street Fighter. I used to love playing Street Fighter 2 on the SNES while growing up, but trying to play Super Street Fighter 4 now, I just get bored and frustrated. Really, I just don't like any kind of competitive gaming. Racing, fighting, online FPS, not my thing.
