The first Mortal Kombat film. IMO, one of the best movies based on a video game. So, it's basically Enter The Dragon with video game characters shoehorned in, but it's an enjoyable romp. The second one was total garbage, though.

Chronicles Of Riddick. Hardly the greatest movie ever, it was a little over-the-top for me, but it had a feel reminiscent of classic sci-fi from the 60's combined with a visual aesthetic snagged from Warhammer 40k. And there's a rather subtle element to the performance and the story which is hard to catch the first time through.

More recently, John Carter. That movie was damn good. Enjoyable scenery and action sequences, and while it changed things from the books the changes were overall for the better. Stiff acting, and a weak villain, but it's a pulp story and that tends to go with the territory. It hits I desperately wanted to see a sequel to it, but that's not going to happen.
I was going to say John Carter myself, but then I realised that I agree with everything in this post.

Well I feel like I'm jumpin on quite a few grenades here, but here goes
Super Mario Bros. Movie

Loved it, still love it, will keep loving it even if the whole cinematic world crumbles.
Mortal Kombat (first movie only, still 'like the 2nd kinda but not really')

Scrap everything else in the movie but the final fight, the actor who played Raiden, and the Johnny Cage/Goro nutpunch and I will still love that movie.
Good Burger

I still watch it when it comes on and love it the same as when I first watched it.

Thats just to name a few movies that I like a bunch and will defend most days.

Anything that is panned with Nicholas Cage in it gets my support, because damn if he doesn't make bad film atleast entertaining to watch. Particular credit goes to Drice Angry, Knowing and The Wickerman all of which by their own rights are bad films and should be a chore to sit through, but at the end of the day I enjoyed them.

The last Airbender, it gets the entire first "book" into a movie, it does feel a bit rushed at times, but it gets all of the important stuff in, and its has a more serious tone than the cartoon.
Get out.

Get out and don't let the door hit you on the back.

Just leave.

OT: Not a lot of these movies are panned. Disliked, possibly, but not panned.

All Michael Bay films. I go into those expecting two and a half hours of pure action scenes. And mostly, that is what I get. I also thought Sucker Punch was great, and that The Boondock Saints was the best film I have ever seen (The second one was good, but not the same. Too much time had gone by.).

The Ace Ventura movies. I don't understand why critics hated it so much but still liked The Mask. I love The Mask too, but the Ace Ventura movies are my favorite Jim Carey movies, and on my favorite movie list.

The Ghost and the Darkness.

About a true story of a pair of lions who killed *at least* 34 people between March and December of 1898.

I thought the story was good, the cinematography was good, the acting was good.

TRON Legacy got panned? *checks out the reviews* Yup, it sure did. I really liked it though, so count me in on that one.

Sucker Punch - I'll get on board with this as well. Sure the overarching story wasn't fleshed out all that well and had some pretty lame aspects (The director's cut does make slightly more sense.), but look at it this way. In that movie, there's a scene where a squad of amazons takes on an army of steam punk Reichsheer zombies using swords, modern assault rifles, and a mech walker. Later they storm a castle full of orcs and have to run from a dragon in a B-25 bomber and slice up robots in a hover train. All shot by Zack Snyder. You can't tell me that there is nothing cool about watching that.

Event Horizon - This had a wicked awesome looking set and sort of a Lovecraft in space type plot. Probably Paul W. Anderson's one decent major film. This is the tone and direction the Doom movie should've taken.

Wanted - Silly, stupid and implausible, but had quite a few truly awesome moments. Seeing Morgan Freeman in that role was also a real kick.

Pitch Black - Not outright panned, but it didn't get much love either. I loved the way it was shot and really dug it.

Cowboys & Aliens.
I thought it was going to be about the immigration laws of texas. If i'd know it was going to be about cowboys and aliens i maybe would've lowered my expectations :p.

All abord the Sucker Punch Train: Come on, it's a great film if you just want to shut off your brain and see beautiful girls kick major ass. I mean, 300 didn't get critically panned, did it ? yet the major thing it got was the action scenes, seeing as the plot was laughable. (liked that film as well).

Also, Equilibrium with Christian bale got a 33% on metacritic. What the actual fuck ? It had an interesting dystopian future plotline and the action was GREAT. I mean look at this !
My friends and I still make it a tradition to watch it once a year on our movie nights. The Same with Shoot'em up (got 49% on metacritic). It doesn't take itself seriously, why the hell do the critics do ? Every film that starts like this is great in my book

I just looked Event Horizon up on Metacritic. 35%?! It's one of the best looking sci-fi films ever, great sound, a good script and excellent cast, especially Sam Neill, who has way too much fun as Weir.

"Where we're going we won't need eyes to see."

It's even better if you look on it as an unintended but perfect prequel to the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Pitch Black - Not outright panned, but it didn't get much love either. I loved the way it was shot and really dug it.
Again i'm surprised at this showing at 49%. A really good concept done well, and infinitely more original than that... sequel (and seeing as the OP wants the thread to remain positive I'll say no more about Chronicles of Riddick, since I can't say anything good about it.)

Spider-Man 3, which is my favourite in the trilogy. Why? Because of the interesting mix of three villains, each with their own sympathetic motivations, the Venom symbiote showing Peter Parker?s dark side, and his crumbling relationship with Mary-Jane breaking expectations of the usual ?get the girl, live happily ever after? trope in most superhero films. And I felt like it (mostly) wrapped everything up nicely, with Harry?s anger towards Peter and Uncle Ben?s murder.

End of Days. I can?t remember exactly what I liked about it, but come on: it?s Schwarzenegger. It?s demons. It?s symbolism.

Kindergartern Cop. I found it to be both a funny and compelling film, and how can you not like a film with Schwarzenegger as a cop trying to control and slowly building up a relationship with his class of toddlers?

"Dude, where's my Car" - I don't seem to enjoy their drug, but I sure as hell seem to enjoy stoner humor. Probably because it spares you from having to take the drug to experience the most wacky-ass situations. See also: Harold and Kumar.

"Chronicles of Riddick" - Sure it's a dumb movie, but it was an epic dumb movie with awesome visual design and cool music. I'm still holding out hope for a sequel, till underverse come.

"Equilibrium" - Yeah, so they ripped off every dystopian novel and used the crudest of symbolism to hammer their point home, and gun-kata actually makes no sense whatsoever (want to "keep clear of statistically traditional trajectories of fire"? - look for cover, dumbass!), but still enjoyable, with a badass Christian Bale (before he became a walking self-parody with his Batman voice).

Pokemon 2000 was actually one of my favourite films as a kid although I was not a fan of the series. Also I never thought Michael Bay's Armageddon was really that bad, although saying that the last time I watched it was 7 years ago may change my oppinion now.

How is Tron: Legacy critically panned? 50% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes liked it, which to me does not say "panned."

OT: I quite liked these movies, and if I remember rightly, the (vast) majority of critics did not.

I Know What You Did Last Summer
Elektra
The Happening
Dude, Where's My Car?
Alien vs. Predator
Creep
Van Helsing
I agree with Dude where's my car. I loved that film. Funny as hell. I liked Van Helsing too, but I'm not sure it was panned. Even if it was Roger Ebert himself liked it, so screw everyone else. :p

Book of Eli was just amazing and yet was panned for not being like The Road, which was utter shite.

Also the Rush Hour trilogy which was awesome, funny and had good fighting. IT received a turkey instead of a rating in one review I read.

Captcha - atomic bomb. It's ALIVE! It saw that I mentioned Book of Eli. Ahhh! The captcha has gained self awareness!

I didn't hate Sucker Punch, I just felt like it was somewhat pointless. The action scenes could easily have just been the visuals for a music video or something, and it didn't have anything beyond them.
