Left 4 Dead 2 running at max is just gorgeous. Max AA, not one jagged edge.
For a 9 year old engine, source is still easily crapping on most of the graphics of current tiple A titles.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree quite strongly here.

L4D 2 and Source look utterly shit compared to some recent games:

Left 4 Dead 2:

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Assassin's Creed 2

Modern Warfare 2

Uncharted 2 was the best looking game I'd ever played (and so far gets my nomination for best game of gen 7). I just finished building a gaming class computer and was told online I should try Crysis (and Warhead) so I got Maximum Edition and my first impressions are, it was worth the effort to build this computer. It is a notable cut above anything I've ever seen before. Same online forum said S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is just as good, but the box art just looks like everything is in shades of brown.

What other games, visually, are in this class?
Crysis 2 looks quite literally poised to just shit all over the graphics of the first one.
I'll have to upgrade to run it, I'm quite sure.
And actually... I'd have to say in terms of realism and just sheer visual experience for processing power, Left 4 Dead 2 easily craps all over Crysis.

I hope you are right. A subsequent poster showed clips from Assassin's Creed 2 and Batman Arkham Asylum and he is right, those are great looking games, but I still have to write: Crysis a cut above. The game came out 2007 and I don't think S.T.A.L.K.E.R. compares from the IGN review, so, while there is a lot of gorgeous stuff out there, nothing to really put my PC through its paces yet, at least not on par with Crysis. I hope 2 is all that you hope for.

I think alot of it has to do with style. I love the Anno series and I while I like 1503 the best, the aesthetics of 1701 and 1404 engine look fantastic. The map looks like a 3D model like the the old hobby where people replicated cities and stuff for their train sets. (The good ones.) It looks great.

You aren't going to beat Crysis IMO.
One of the problems with console games is that almost all of them are 720p max, this gives them an enormous disadvantage when you have a 1080p (or higher) monitor.

Really, I can't think of much that tops Crysis. Metro 2033 is supposed to look really great, but I heard it runs somewhat poorly. I haven't played it and there is no demo unfortunately.

How has nobody mentioned Metro 2033 yet? Very recent title with very high end graphics, and it was built out of Kiev, which means its production costs are relatively low compared to most titles.

WipEout HD has pretty graphics, I'd even stick my neck out and say it's the prettiest console game out there, at least until Crysis 2.

Dark Cloud 2. I love cel shading and that game did it perfectly, it just looks fantastic.

You can't beat the simplistic, cartoony style of Banjo Kazooie and it's sequel, Banjo Tooie.

I will defend those two games until the day I die.
You are not alone.

ive always enjoyed good graphics but never so much to base my judgment of a game solely on that aspect of it. However uncharted two was the first game to make me stop mid way and go DAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMNNNNNN!

OT: id say fallout 3 had very good graphics, same with the resistance games

Dawn of War 2 is very pretty RTS game. Particularly the particle effects on dust and explosions.

Just Cause 2 reminded me of Crysis. The detail is a little lower, but the scope is much bigger (you can be viewing multiple islands at once from the sky)

Also, look into racing games; a lot of them have very nice quality on the cars and tracks. As a random suggestion, DIRT 2. Or for the free end, Trackmania Nations United.

I don't care about the visuals that much as long as the game is fun. And frankly, I found Crysis to be.. silly. Damn fun then those alien thingies showed up and it just turned bananashaped.
