Do Mel Brooks films count? Blazing Saddles bored me to tears, and Young Frankenstein really only made me chuckle once or twice.

There aren't any games that immediately come to mind.
Yes they do, and my god you're so right, good sir.

Spaceballs? OK I didn't see it as a kid, but I watched it last summer with two of my mates who said it was the funniest thing ever.. I sat through the movie just facepalming.

I dont think i can bring myself to call Cult classics crappy, one has to view a product in the era it was brought out as everything looks bad after a set period of time (video games having a shorter time period for this process to occur). Unless of course it was shit by the standards of the time it came out....

Yeah, I was having a movie night with some friends, and one of my friends insisted we watch Blazing Saddles, because it was just "so damn funny". I didn't laugh once - I smiled at some of the racial jokes (because I'm evil like that, I guess), and then I fell asleep when there was about 20 minutes left. A comedy that makes one fall asleep is not doing its job as a comedy. But hey, maybe that last 20 minute was pure comedic gold. Then again, it could be the funniest thing ever made for the last 20 minutes, but that wouldn't make up for the fact that it totally sucked for the other 90% of the movie. I suppose it's just not for me - good to see that I'm not alone in that opinion.

I've met some people, real life and not, that cram the idea of playing a Cult Classic. "They don't sell well so they're cult classics. You have to buy them. Now."
But some of them really do suck.
I hated Nights: Journey of Dreams and thought Parappa average.

A cult classic is a game loved by a small group of people. It's gained little following in mainstream audiences, but large followings by nerds and small groups. It's not a game that's though a "Classic" like FFVII.
The very reason these games are cult classics rather than just classics is that there's only a small group of people who think they're classics.

If you don't like them, congratulations, you're with the majority.

If it was literally the funniest thing ever made that would more than make up for it. Btw, if you didn't like the rest of the movie you would not like the end.

I love how what I thought was going to be an interesting, thought-provoking thread quickly degenerated into some people completely and fully misunderstanding the topic and others having to repeatedly explain the topic.

I'd have to say Earthbound. I just wanted to see why Ness was even included in Smash Bros. if no one had ever even heard of his games. So I tried it and was all like, "First person turn based RPG what is going on here right now?" I quickly grew bored.

ish, Something can become a cult classic for a number of reasons, one of which is due to limted ads, and distribution, and if word of mouth doesnt spread being small groups (as it often doesnt), it may well become a cult classic rather than a sleeper hit. In such cases the majority dont not like it, as most will never have heard of it.

Fallout 1&2 - incredibly tedious turn based combat plus the writing is nothing special. And oh god the beginning of both games is so incredibly tedious you'll be sick of them before you've even gotten anywhere.

In terms of games I'd have to say Fallout, KOTOR and Mass Effect.
Well given we're using games as a base here not sure ME can be called a cult classic, its abit popular and mainstream for that. KOTOR is abit like that to. Fallouts the most culty there (assuming your thinking 1 or 2).

OK, so I see where this is going, this is a thread-contest on who can awake more hate from the rest of us.
Well...
You know I just couldn't stand Bioshock? Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful, but sometimes I had the impression the game didn't allow me to experience it's prettiness. I finished the game with the feeling that in more than one ocasion I would have spent longer time just looking around going ooooooh and aaaaaah at the scenery, but then I was forced to fight and go here and there and a door closed behind me and I just couldn't enjoy that anymore.
Actually I think I'm not that original here, I believe Yahtzee said something in the same line (so probably that will make his review on Bioshock one of the ones I most agree with).
I have Bioshock 2 sitting put, patiently waiting for me to gather the will to get started with it. Somehow I just can't. Maybe later.
Oh, and fully agree with Fallout 3. Man, every time one of my friends spoke enthusiastically at his adventures roaming around ex-DC I couldn't help but think they had to be talking about a different game :p

I think of myself as a pretty tolerant kind of guy. I don't truly hate very much at all.

However I will say this,

Phantasy Star Online Episode I&II is utter shit. As is Quest 64, although I don't think that's quite a cult classic, because it's so utterly shit.

Games that are Cult Classics that I don't like? Baldur's Gate is the closest thing. I'm glad my wife's playing it and not me.

Actually, Yahtzee seems to fairly like Bioshock. His review of it was mostly negative because, as he stated at the review's start, no one likes him when he's a bit positive. He also tangentially praised it during the Turok review. It seems like Yahtzee doesn't think that it's great, but that it's pretty good.

The Rocky Horor Picture Show... one of the most boring and idiotic musicals I've ever seen. Would not recommend.
And Mel Brooks films besides Spaceballs. Spaceballs was fun, not "oh man, I'm dieing"-fun, but at least "tehe, sat's funny"-fun. Whereas Mel Brook's Dracula completely failed to make me even smirk.

EDIT: did you change the title? I'm sure there was a part saying "movies" in it...
Well then. I didn't like Jedi Knight II very much. Don't get me wrong, the story itself is good, the gameplay is acceptable, but if I have to play half the game as a solid first-person shooter because I don't get any force powers or lightsabers you can't claim it is a Jedi game...

Fallout 3 was kinda "Meh". A lot of people tell me that it was sooo great.
A game that came out that recently can hardly be qualified as a cult classic.

Sure its overhyped mind you.

OT: Sim City...I just don't understand the appeal of that game I suppose.

I don't get why people think FF-games are soo good, but then again, I've only played VII, X, X-2 and XIII. All of them were boring in my opinion, it's just not my type of games it seem.

Not really a cult classic.
Yeah, but I can see it being referred to as such one day.
Uhhh..how? It's sold insanely well and tons of people like it. If anything, the only 'cult' with Fallout 3 are the people who fucking hate it.

I'm not even going to bother going through the rest of this thread, it seems like nobody really knows what a cult classic is (protip: If it sold like hotcakes and made a fortune, it wasn't a cult classic).

I can already feel the hatred from saying this, but Elder Scrolls the third: Marrowind the terrible. That game is straight bad.
