As soon as the new chipset came out the Jasper, there have been less cases of the RROD. My first Xbox lasted 2 years, then it broke got another 2 months later broke...., 3rd one last a few months brought a Jasper and still going!

Yes, they are slowly increasing their own life span...
I've had mine for a year and a half now with no problems (and its not a jasper). Heres a few tips:
Try keeping the console upright, in an open space to allow more air-flow
dont plug it into surge protector/multi-outlet boards, plug it straight into the wall socket so as not to restrict power flow
Also if you have your adapter box sitting on carpet, slide a magazine underneath it to prevent static electricity

The first tip you gave sound alright but the last two sound like BS. You don't get less power from using a surge protector; the Xbox casing is made of plastic, and since your Xbox is probably not going to be sliding around you don't need to worry about it building up a static charge by itself.

I dunno, its just what someone told me and my first and only 360 is still going strong coming close to 2 years *shrugs shoulders*
you're probly right tho, upon reviewing those 2 tips, they do seem pretty pointless

I've never had a problem with my 360. I think the biggest thing you need to worry about is proper ventilation. I prop mine up to give the bottom fans enough clearance off the ground to work properly. I also bought a laptop cooler. It plugs into the USB port so it doesn't void your warranty, and keeps the 360 running nice and smoothly. *knocks on wood*

A friend's 360 just ringed a few weeks ago. Another friend of mine had to send his in twice. It's the main reason I don't have a 360 myself.

I know there wasn't anything said during MS's big presentation about how well the Jasper is doing but was there anything at all about it on the floor? I thought the jasper was supposed to fix the problem entirely; or is it just supposed to be less likely to happen.

Consider yourself lucky, I've had 7 360's All of which have been replaced because of a red ring.

I only had one red ring on me and that was about a year ago. It lasted me a good two years and I haven't had another one. Well technically that first one didn't red ring either it just decided it didn't want to work. It'd freeze after a few seconds then once I followed Microsoft's steps to fix it the freeze happened even faster. After that haven't had a problem since.

Had mine for over half a year and it's all peachy so far. (crosses fingers) Pretty sure it's the newer model.
Check the 12 volt rail on the Xbox if its 12.1 its a Jasper, 14.2 Falcon and 16.5 a xenon.

Same here - although if you got your christmas 2007 (as I did) it won't have been a Jasper.

Sorry, I mis-read your post - thought you said a year and a half.

What the hell is the 12 volt rail? Probably a dumb question.
on the back of the 360 you'll see "12V --" then either 12.1A, 14.2A or 16.5A.

You have the same model I had originally. It will die, the NXE causes it to get E74. It's due to a faulty GPU.

I say, leave it on until you get the error, and have it replaced for a brand new Jasper, free, like I did.
