It's still the idea of using videos to show stuff that could have easily been shown ingame for a better experience.Tom_green_day said:That's not a cutscene though is it? That's an opening video setting up the game, not exactly the same thing...
But as John points out in the video, I shouldn't have to do that. Is it too much to ask for tutorials to be interactive, or at least give me the option to turn it off without having to mess around with deleting files.SourMilk said:Indeed, I would also say it's possible to remove the intro by renaming/deleting the .BIK file associated with it.Tom_green_day said:That's not a cutscene though is it? It doesn't, that was something I brought up as a comparison. A good cutscene is, per definition, not what's on display in that videoMysticSlayer said:However, when it comes to cutscenes meant to further the story, character development, etc., I really don't see how this video applies at all.

Because games are Art and as such can only convey emotion in a certain way. A game player can't feel the right emotions by playing through the games and potentially missing out on emotions by moving the camera or the player character.
I thought there was going to be more than that but I couldn't come up with a good enough...oh well...Ya know what really constitutes cutscene Hell? Metal Gear 4...no, Final Fantasy XIII! You could skip MGS4 cutscenes from what I remember but none of them features Shiva re-imagined as a lesbian, incestuous, motorcycle who obeys a single human man.
I just wanted to say that your comment really cheered me up after I read it. XD It's all 100% true. Playing any Final Fantasy post VII (except for IX) and the summons were drawn-out, un-skippable cutscenes of their own, sometimes only to result in a negligible amount of damage.Shoggoth2588 said:*read this in the voice of either David Cage or Tommy Waisau*

Oh, I seem to have failed to understand that was a comedy video. I was under the impression it was meant to inform us that the game is shit.Nazulu said:I don't think the guy who made the video is funny or even clever at all (he's kinda of annoying actually), but that was an stupid amount of un-interaction for me to never bother with this game.
It is just poor design choices or poor planning and it's just another reason why I can't just pick up anything now. I have to research everything to avoid all this annoying shit they put in so many games these days.
Yeah, and I shouldn't have to inform anyone what I was actually talking about either, cause you know, since I can judge things separately.Magix said:Oh, I seem to have failed to understand that was a comedy video. TotalBiscuit tends to be very opinionated and some people can't help but make it about HIM and not the point he's making. If his points are valid, it doesn't matter if you like his personality or not. And I wish people would stop bringing it into arguments as if it somehow devalues the information in his videos
In Max Payne's defense, the cutscenes are used to hide the abnormally long loading times. Most of them can be skipped about halfway through, once all the loading has taken place. Doesn't make it any less annoying thoughBarbas said:Apparently Max Payne 3 was even worse for cutscenes and lens flare.
Actually, this is one of the things I like about skyrim. Not only can you ask about only what you want to hear about, but if the guy is talking too slow you can turn on subtitles and even skip through the dialogue. You only get as much story as you want, and aside from the opening and some drawn out finishing moves, skyrim really does interaction well. Many things depend on your interaction, and many other things don't. But the important think is that skyrim leaves all the control and all the decisions aside from the opening and the main quest up to you. Even then you have to make some choices in the main quest.MysticSlayer said:It's not really showing a problem with cutscenes, or at least not general cutscenes.
What it is showing is a problem with having un-skippable opening scenes (though this can be applied to cutscenes) and tutorials that you have to watch instead of engage with. At the very least, a developer should make all tutorial videos a separate, optional part of the game that those who want to watch can watch and those who don't want to watch don't have to watch.
However, when it comes to cutscenes meant to further the story, character development, etc., I really don't see how this video applies at all.
