But, you don't actually have to kill anything. Charm spells and charisma end battles just as easily as Fireball and nunchucks. For that matter, you don't have to travel to fantastic locations or meet interesting people either. It's the very nature of the imagination to take us to the fantastic places, fighting ridiculous monsters for loot and fame, not the game itself.
kind of liek how a gun has never killed someone on it's own. It's just the tool that the person uses to kill.

Wow. I wonder what she would think of a game like Vampire or Werewolf?

My parents bought me a D&D set when I was about 12 or so, but I couldn't really get into it because I could never find more than one other person to play it with, and you really need at least three people for that game.

Later on I found out about the whole "D&D = devil worship" thing that goes around in some Christian circles and I thought that was funny given that "devil" wasn't one of the classes you could play and the closest thing to a Devil in my edition of the game was a Balrog which is more like wings tacked onto some ugly weightlifting dude. At least I know that when I eventually do go to hell for all my satanic board-gaming I'll get good gym classes.

It's true. Your children, like it or not, are attracted in their weaker years to the occult. And a game like D&D fuels their imagination and makes them feel "Special" while drawing them deeper and deeper into the bowels of EL DIABLO.
D and D isn't even meant for kids, i mean, there is a lot of complex reading involved. And, if that is a concern, then video games are the same kinda thing, which begs the question: why are you on a video games websites forum?
woosh.
This is the sound of an epicly placed quote going right over the head of a should-have-been susceptible target. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHdXG2gV01k
this has already been put up once, but it is still REALLY great.

Anyways, my first comment has a LOT of validity. Basically, I was TRYING... DESPERATELY TRYING to point out the fact that this argument is over a decade and a half old. This song, Dungeons And Dragons by the Dead Alewives was put out in 1996. That is over 13 years ago. Now, this girl is NOT STUPID. She is working off of dated information. This is just like five years ago when some groups became concerned that Harry Potter promoted Wicca, when this happened everyone said it was just like the D&D scare of the 80s. It's a dated conversation and doesn't need to be discussed anymore.

"... Pick those up. I won't have you crazy soul saving bastards making a mess about the place. And by the way, you broke one of them, that'll be $5.99, plus a $15 painting fee. Oh and grab me some more graph paper, would you, you've ruined mine. Oh you refuse, *rummage in bag* Is this your bible. My my, looks like it was a gift. *RIIIIIP* Well, I suppose that'll make us about even then?"

OT: I don't think that anything where you FIGHT DEMONS AND DEVILS AND SHIT is devil worship. I saw resident evil got yelled at by some religious group, that wasn't christian or Muslim for a change, saying that even thought you fight the army's of darkness and kill evil for breakfast, that the game was promoting about six kinds of devil worship, which is weird saying that most of the devil worshipers in the game are then shot to death by a chia pet left on top of a fridge. D&D is an old target and probably won't stop being one. And where were you where there was a Christian club?
Dude, that was retarded on SO many levels, and shows how these people don't know even the FIRST thing about what they're talking about. Resident Evil doesn't have you fighting armies of darkness and you don't kill devil worshippers- you're fighting zombies, virus-mutated monsters and mad scientists and religion doesn't come within a hundred miles of the series (except when some Nietzsche Wannabe villain claims "I am a GOD!" or some such cliched nonsense). Seriously, this is why we can't have nice things!

By armies of darkness, I basically meant the bad guys, I was just using some sophisticated language[if we're talking about a kind of church opposing something because they think it endorses Satan, than "armies of darkness" can mean "bad guys"]. the "devil worshipers", at least to what ever religion thinks that this game was made to teach kids about Satan[the article didn't specify which religion], where the enemies from the first island from RE4 and the the tribals from RE5. And sorry about the whole "not knowing shit about the resident evil series" thing, I only have RE4 and 5 and I bought code veronica so I could heir the phrase "I am Alfred Ashferd heir to the Asherd family name", which is actually really funny to hear sorry if I spelled Ashferd wrong, fire fox says that it's spelled wrong, but it only comes up with other names that aren't right. Sorry for any hard feelings.

No hard feelings dude, because it wasn't anything you said that hacked me off. It's whichever stupid religious group is spouting that crap which annoys the shit out of me. If they're claiming the series is promoting satanism then they're simply completely full of shit; and if they're arguing that the series is evil because it has bad guys in it regardless of their affiliation, then they're so retarded you can simply ignore any and everything they say as being a waste of human thought.
