Who gives a shit if the gameplay is similar, do you play for gameplay or for story ?

No it is not.

It is God of War. In hell
Well, God of War is Devil May Cry. In Greece.
(Do not forget that Devil May Cry was the first in that vein of over the top action games).

By extension, the OP is right. Dante's Inferno is Devil May Cry. In Greece. In Hell.
and in italy. not in greece.

EDIT: i meant dante´s inferno ;)

Excuse my "noobness" but it does seem possible, both lead characters are called Dante, it's a hack and slash involving demonic demons and other bad thingys, basically it's in the same vein as DMC.

I have only played half of the first DMC and I have obviously haven't played Dante's Inferno it is just an observation, I am probably completely wrong I just wanted to ask you intelligent folks.
DI is a knock-off of God of War, what really looks to be a outstanding knock-off but still.

Bayonnetta is more along the lines of DMC since it's the same maker.

As for the name Dante, well the story was written in the 14 century....so I'm pretty sure it's originally his name first.

Watching all the people say "god of war clone omg >_<". By that same vein, every FPS is a clone of Wolfenstein 3D, but people will come up with a plethora of reasons as to why it is not, so I don't understand why beat-em-ups are instantly God of War clones.

I thought this thread was dead, oh well.

I am not interested in buying the game, I just thought it was an off shoot of the DMC games due to the player character having the same name and it being along the same lines.

I think bayonetta looks (not visually) crap, so I won't be getting that either.

I actually thought DI looked pretty decent: cool graphics, interesting story and kick arse combat sections.
Some people are slagging it off already and i dont understand it because its not even out yet

you should take a look at the demo. i agree that there are fine differences between games like dmc, ninja gaiden or god of war. but if i wouldn´t have known, the dante´s inferno demo could have also been a god of war demo. the upgrade system is different but the combat is, at least in the demo, exactly the same. i also read that visceral games was founded by ex gow-programmers so it makes perfectly sense that the titles are kind of similar, but it´s so similar it really turned me off a bit.

not a DMC relation but deffinitly a GoW ripoff, I played the demo and seriously if DI was any more like GoW, the Sony would have to start getting the lawyers out.
Awesome game though, and prolly one of the longest demos I have played.

And this is how to fail at life.

OT - I'd say that, from what I've played so far, Dante's Inferno is definitely closer to God of War than Devil May Cry, but it doesn't really matter, because everyone I know is buying it for the genius advertising campaign.

OK, so your either not good at reading books, or your trolling.

Anyway I'll bite, Dante's Inferno is loosely based on a book called Dante's Inferno (nitpickers shut up) which chronicle's the story of a man called Dante on a journey through hell guided by a dude called Virgil... (see the connection)

If your not good at reading, then I suggest you get yourself The Divine Comedy and have a read, its very good.

If your trolling well done you, seeing the response's from some of the people here that quite clearly don't know who Dante the writer is makes me happy they aren't in my friends list.

Kindly remove yourself from this forum until you know not to do that.

OT: I know almost nothing of literature, so I cannot help you.
I know people have reported him/her and the mods will probe him/her for several days (the sin you just thought of was lust by the way) I think as a community we should let it slide because of the context.

heh.

Hack'n'Slash games are always the same. You'll notice some similarities but there'll also be differences. We can't compare them yet, however, as Dante's Inferno isn't out.
The demo is. And the entire feel of the game is GOW clone. Right down to the controls. Although it is done really well. And I have already preordered it.
