Is it just me, or does it bother anyone else that this game look like it has nothing to do with the actual book? The gameplay looks like a cross between God of War and Ninja Gaiden and I have no idea who the hell we are playing in the game. I dont remember reading of any of that in the actual book.

Yeah, the only thing they based it off was using it to establish the basis of the 9 circles of hell and making the protaganist Dante.

they pretty much changed everything after that, or that's what the guys who made it said. I never really cared about the game, so it doesn't bother me.

The game does have nice visuals though even if it isn't from the source.
Just a shame the gameplay isn't as good as it should've been. What a wasted effort, everyone will pick GOW3 and Bayonetta over Dante.

Now days, ALL games are nice visually. But it's like EA is just trying to save their own sinking ship by taking something popular and making it into a game. And how the hell is that Dante???? Dante wasn't some ass kicking muthafucka that killed demons.

If it hadn't been a weak GOW clone, but an improved game instead, butchering the source material could've been forgiven.
Nevermind, anyone can see this game will flop. Why can't EA?

I was really excited about this game until a friend posed the question "If you're killing stuff in hell, where do they go?" After that, I stopped wanting it.

My Sentiments Exactly!

This is like the bastardized Sherlock Holmes film although it is quite good!
Point recognized, besides playing as a warrior and not a POET! it does seem different.
I mean look at the first circle of hell limbo.... in the game it looks like a terrible place, but in the book it's a green meadow and a castle and everyone who did not accept God..... THATS IT.

Cause EA is to busy trying to make money. They don't really care if a game is shitty or not, they're EA.

I think it looks like it has a decent amount of connection to the book.

But then when you open it up and look inside, you just see a very bland and boring piece of cheese that nobody wants.

I personally enjoyed the game, even though I am a big fan of the original poem.

I'm weird like that.

I can't imagine why you would be mad that the game isn't like a poem. What the hell? We already know how poorly games translate into movies, or vise versa, and how movies based on books are never ever as good as the book. But should someone see said movie, or play said game, without having first seen the source material, suddenly it becomes really really awesome (think Jurassic Park). It's too bad you're so stuck on the literature which is one thing, and can't see how being completely different is actually a good thing. Oh well.

My problem is that they used the title of Dante's Inferno for publicity. I'll rent the game or something to look deeper into it to see if it haves anything in common with the poem but as far as I can see is that it's some random guy killing demons in hell. Why couldn't they name it "Bad Ass Muthafucka That Kills Dead People" that seems more appropriate

It's a pity they didn't turn Dante's Inferno into a Silent Hill style rip off. Wandering around being upset and fainting were pretty much all Dante the Pilgrim did in the poem anyway. It would have been really interesting to work Dante's social commentary and reflective thoughts into a psychologically deep game.

Is the game ripping the title off a bit? Sure but I think there are some moments of authentic inspiration to be had, even if only in tone.

Maybe it's the idealism of my profession coming through but if a mediocre game like this causes more people to actually read the written work I'd say it's worth the whole ordeal.

This again? I dare you to make a faithful, to-the-letter adaptation of Dante's Inferno. I dare ya. And no, making it a Visual Novel doesn't count.

Bah, I've said this before, but it's just EA's excuse to go to hell (Oh wait, they didn't need one!). I only respect EA for it's part in publishing Mass Effect, Dragon age, and Spore.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I agree with you. Dante's Inferno can't really be a game, a movie maybe, but not a game unless you rip apart the story... which they did anyway.

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA slow your roll. Your telling me that it bothers you that Dante's inferno the game has nothing to do with the inferno of the Divine Comedy. ALright. However i mean one it's a game and not a teaching tool. And Second and most importantly nobody can look me staright in the eye and tell me that this game isn't a COMPLETE rip off of God of War. The combat the style i mean you name it. God of war is a title that is safe to say idk 90% of the gamer masses have played and enjoyed wickedly...Yet...Nobody complains that GoW's story completely butchers Greek mythology now do they?

Well that's because it doesn't try to focus on Greek mythology but on Kratos shoving swords into peoples throats and having sex, Dante's Inferno was actually trying to be like the poem Dante's Inferno but it didn't do that.
