I think this thread is evidence of a phenomena I've long thought true. We all have things we enjoyed from our childhood but as we got older, they stayed the same. Usually and particularly if decent and well made, they can stand the test of time and still hold some enjoyment for us as adults and young adults. But something does disappear as we get older, more pragmatic and cynical perhaps.
And so this thread...I'm older than the Power Rangers craze which came about two crazes after my childhood. For me it was He Man from Filmation, and to a lesser extent, the original Star Wars trilogy and the comics that went with it. Next, in my brother's era came the Teenage Mutant Nija Turtles, the WWF/WWE and Ghostbusters, then years later still, the whole Power Rangers thing. And here is where we all have something in common.
I know I would love to see a modern remake of He Man and more, a remake to cater to adults. Children's shows simply cannot explore, show or so much as suggest adult themes such as violence, sex, romance, loss or terror. But as much as I enjoy rewatching the children's originals, a grown up, contemporary version would be better now. If I had kids one day, I would derive enjoyment from watching them watch and enjoy my old favourite shows but for myself it would be nice to see those same characters in stories aimed at adults. A He Man-Teela love story would get my money whether or not it was even any good
Nintendo are also an example of this. Their consoles were host to great games as I grew up, fun and unforgettable titles. But they didn't grow up with me. When I hit my 20s a decade ago, I noticed they hadn't been keeping up very well. The Gamecube had RE4 and a handful of other great titles, but I'd long since lost interest in yet another Zelda/Mario game. The Wii is the current iteration and still holds true. Nintendo seem to cater the most to younger gamers and I have seen nothing to indicate that the Wii U will be any different, even if it does outprocess this generations grown-up rivals.
