Hey everyone, i have been playing dark souls and currently i am up to lord Gywn im going around kindling bonfires and going to kill the optional bosses and some NPC's for humanities and special items.

but i was wondering what sort of items i shouild have as equipment
im currently lvl 102
a Heavy Armor, heavy weapon users, Ultra greatswords etc.
its a PVE character

i have been using Havel's Armor, Dragon King Greataxe and Black Knight Greatsword
i like having high defence, high health, high poise and high damage.

so my questions are
What are your suggestions for Armor/weapons?
What was your build?
and fave boss?

----------
i was reflecting at my experience in Dark souls
and thinking bout the Bosses in the game

my favorite boss was
Knight Artorias: mostly because i felt like i was actually fighting a expert warrior who had been turned by the darkness.

but seriously
screw Ornstein and Smough (pikachu and Snorlax)

I usually go for a high strength build. Using the Black Knight Greataxe or Sword along with fully upgraded Black Knights Armour and the Mask of the Child.

My favourite boss would have to be Artorias. I find the human type enemies to be by far the most fun to fight in Dark/Demon's Souls.

I think I ended up around 70-80 or so when I just got tired of it. I was using a holy sword, I remember that much. I was some kind of hybrid holy/strength build. Or maybe I was fast. I can't remember.

I'd killed the vast majority of the bosses. There was only a couple left. I just got pulled off by other things, and it was such a headache getting the game pad to behave with the game I never settled back into it once I left for a time.

Favorite boss...I dunno. I liked Artorias too. He took me 5-6 tries, and at one point I was like UGH I am never gonna get this dude, but it was very satisfying to finally kill him. I had the most trouble with Stray Demon. I was most psyched when I killed the Goat guy, it was a very close thing.

I actually one shot Ornstein and Smough, who I later came to understand were particularly notorious. I got Four Kings and Sif on the first try too. I struggled more with earlier bosses, like Havel the Rock and those FUCKING Gargoyles.

Actually now that I think about it I recall Sanctuary Guardian giving me fits too.

You just need to put points into 4 stats really.

1) Vitality (for health)
2) Endurance (for stamina)
3) Dexterity or Strength (for what weapons you want to use)
4) Faith or Intelligence (for what magic you want to use)

That's the basic way to make a build in Dark Souls. You can put an element on your weapon instead of using the strength/dexterity scaling. And you can just fire magic instead of leveling up a stat for magic as fire magic levels with the Pyromancy Flame and not a stat.

I found fully upgraded Giant's armor to be generally better than Havel's armor. Also, if your strong enough to use your weapon in one hand a Great Shield of Artorias [http://darksouls.wikidot.com/greatshield-of-artorias] is amazingly useful. For a weapon I used the Zweihander but just about any strength based weapon works here.

Sounds like you are even a bit over equiped. I'd recommend not parrying him since that would rob you of a good bossfight.

My favorite build was probably the bonewheel shield+Kirks armor. Nothing more satisfying than shredding bosses with a shield. Favorite boss was Artorias i guess.

First time through I went super tank with the Black Iron set, including the Greatshield, and a spear(2 crystal spears for Gwyn cause I wanted to be fancy). I've had, well, a lot of various builds though. My current favorite is a somewhat cheesy no armor, red tearstone, power within build using the Obsidian and Abyss Greatswords. The timing on the Obsidian Greatsword's 2handed R2 meshes really well with the Abyss Greatswords's R2s. You can hit with Black Flame and then on wake-up hit the enemy with the double circular slash, and while it's normally too easy to punish, you can catch people off guard with the vertical slam.

Favorite boss is probably Ornstein and Smough. I can breeze through most bosses at this point, but I feel like I have to be the most careful on that fight which is cool.

I never put points in Vitality, only twice. However, my chars always have insanely high stamina!!
I wanna try magick some day, but I kept putting more points in stamina and STR/DEX by habit. :(

For weapons, I love Halberd! (to the point I had to hunt one down in Demon's souls, but its animation was really awkward in that game)
For armours, I prefer shirtless and heavy armour pieces on my Wanderers' arms and legs.

I never really had a solid build and I can't really give you much advice since my favored playstyle is a fair bit different from yours.
My first was character (well first who didn't delete after a few hours) was dex/int with some pyro buffs (power within mostly) if the situation called for it. A little fragile and I actually end up using the offensive sorcery less as I went on because it?s a bit cheap but it is still my fav so far. I switch out armor and weapons regularly depending on mood. Moonlit great sword, Rapiers (good for buffing up), good old reliable baldurs side sword, great scythe, spear if I?m feeling lazy. Usually use the Grass Crest Shield for the stamina boost. I went around Lord Blade what?s-her-names armor simply because I like it and Artorias armor was too heavy to stay at the speed I find acceptable. If it?s a serious fight I?m more likely to take off my armor completely and fight naked with a shield and the dark wood grain ring since my character couldn't take many hits anyway. I also have a str/faith (mostly using Zweihander) and a dex/pyro. I much prefer dex weapons to str in general.
I want to make an Artorias build but all his gear has such high stat demands.

Artorias was my favorite boss fight. Ornstein and Smough was frustrating but also fun. The Sif fight is fantastic visually but not a great fight.

I was level 112 when I beat the game and my favorite build is Black Knight armor +5, Havel's chest plate, black knight halberd +5 and the Great shield of Artorias +5. Some bow from those forest guardian guys, Havels ring and ring of favor and protection. Personaly I love the great shield, makes the Persilla fight stupid easy, only downsides to the shield, is that it is really heavy and you cannot parry with it.

Favorite boss? either Four Kings or Gwyn. Never had a chance to fight Artorias yet.

I've found the most fun way to play the game is to forbid yourself from using shields completely.

Dual wielding doesn't really give you much of an advantage in the game but it looks cool. I like to have a pokey weapon in my left hand and a slashy weapon in my right hand.

"What are your suggestions for Armor/weapons?"

If you're going a strength-based kind of thing, as it seems, I'd recommend the Claymore, Zweihander, maybe the Manserpent Greatsword. I don't use a strength build much, though.

Otherwise, my farorites are Ricard's Rapier for its unique moveset and the Sunlight Straight Sword for its reliability.

"What was your build?"

This is a typical build of mine. Ricard's rapier using faith build with DMB. Extra slot for Sunlight Blade. Chaos Sunlight Straight Sword as a backup. Doesn't sound like something your build would be able to use, though.

"and fave boss?"

Artorias was fun. Sif was my favourite, though. When he eventually dies, his helplessness makes me feel sorry for him.

My favorite build by far was a Dragon Body build that scaled with intelligence. It was a very mobile, fast build but you are essentially naked. Very high risk, high reward play style.

EDIT: Went back and found links to all of my builds I posted on Mugenmonkey. Spoiler'd for length.

Sanctuary Guardian is a pain for just about everyone the first time around. It's usually a pain the second and third, too.

The current build I'm using is a bit of a twink. Wound up getting a BK sword from one of the knights in the Parish, so I've stuck with that and the dark leather armor. Keeps my level down while still being able to destroy most enemies without more than one or two swings.

As for my favorite boss, I'd have to go with the Gaping Dragon. It's huge, but not really that difficult, which leaves me enjoying the spectacle of it even as I'm fighting the enormous beast.

If you think that was hard, try cutting off his tail for the whip. Or Kalameet's tail for that matter, they are both hard earned weapons.

1. Wait hold on you use Havels? LOL SCRUB SOULZ PLAYER USING HAVELS DOENS'T KNOW HOW TO MIN MAX FAST ROLLZ GET GOOD NUB. I kid, use what you're comfortable with. As for weapons go for strength types, and play unlocked when fighting invaders/duelers. Using strength weapons are pretty much free backstabs for the opposing player, so playing unlocked is a big help and can hit through players shield if dead angled correctly. Using strength weapons in PVE is good too, since everything just dies in less then 3 hits from strength weapons and greatshields during boss fights is pretty much easy mode.

2. I've played this game for almost 2 years now, and I've burned through A LOT of builds and used A LOT of weapons and setups. That was until months back I created my all time favorite, well rounded, quality build: It optimizes dual wielding, usage of almost every base weapon, fast rolls, can stack enough poise to take on the first hit of an Ultra Greatsword, can switch to flipping, increase critical damage or go into red tear hyper mode via ring swaps, and can wear the most stylish of armor set combinations with out worry over burdening.

http://mmdks.com/4bwt

So good.

3. I really liked Manus, he felt more of a final boss then Gwyn (minus the music). He was aggressive, couldn't be parried to death... *stares down Gwyn*, can annihilate you with Dark Magic if you're not careful, and has OTG combos. You don't see a lot of boss battles with stylish OTG combos.

And Arty, he's a lot of fun to solo.

There is no wrong way to kill/fight Gwyn. Experiment with different weapons/armor and use what works best for you.

My favorite boss is probably Ornstien and Smough with Nito coming up behind them and Gwyn falling in 3rd place.

As for my builds, Ive done everything under the sun. My very first character was a heavy fighter. I think I wore the Elite knight armor and used a lightning zwienhander. That R2 stuns him in almost every attack.

My second win vs him was my Darkwraith that used the Chaos blade and was dressed in wanderers hood, armor of thorns, gloves of thorns, and Gold hemmed black skirt.

My sunbro is a Strength/Faith build who uses all kinds of miracles and wears the paladin armor, plus uses the Claymore and Solaire shield

My Pyromancer uses a baldur side sword and heater shield and wears the crown of dusk, elite knight armor, sorcerer gloves and havels legs

Right now Im working on a Divine fist build thats going to use the dragon bone fist while wearing the black set

Ive had many others but those are my most memorable builds
