For those who have enjoyed reading about my efforts to press onward in this game, I have just beaten the Capra Demon and am now slowly making my way down into the Depths. No idea what to expect, as I've not read any guide or anything on the area. Here goes nothing.
once you get deeper into the depths you should tread carefully because there are blobs on the roof who will drop down and kick your ass...also i advise you to go back to were you fought the bell gargoyles and buy some purging stones from that one gut. you will need them for the baslisks who can curse you and thats not fun

If you see a tip saying "Up" or "Above" or something, be careful. There are blob monsters who chill out on the ceilings, and if they land on you they do a TON of damage (likely instant death for you right now).

When you meet the Basilisks (little lizard dudes with huge googly eyes), keep moving. If you stand in their fog for too long (i.e. more than a second) you will die, and be cursed. Getting cursed is a HUGE pain in the ass in this game. There is a guy named The Pardoner something or other in the belltower where you fought the Gargoyles. Go buy a purging stone or two from him, just in case.

Be sure to talk to the merchant down there. He sells some decent stuff, but he sells much better stuff later on. However, you can only meet him later if you talk to him now.

There is a shortcut between the merchant/entrance to Blighttown and the bonfire in the Depths. Its a little ladder behind a pile of boxes, near the grate where you can see the giant rat.

Gaping Dragon is scary as hell, but he's not that hard to beat. Attack him after he does his charge move, otherwise keep a lot of distance between you and him. In particular, don' get hit by his vomit move. It will wreck your equipment.

I just got through the Depths. Very fun, and not as hard as one would think. It took two tries to get through both it and it's beautifully monstrous boss. Just be careful and look in all directions--even up. Familiarize yourself with the paths and when you die, avoid any unnecessary conflict.

The trick I found, and it was once I was at the parish, before defeating the two Bell Gargoyles, was to not be afraid. I started playing how I usually play any game. I walked towards everything and either stealth killed or got into a careful, but aggressive, fight. I'm using a knight, so it I don't have much a choice but to be on the offensive. I just can't wait until I get to sell my items.

One simple question: Where do I go after the Depths?

Through the gate after the merchant in the Depths will take you to Blighttown and eventually the second bell.

Shame that place is such a mess of low frame rate stutteryness and annoying poison and toxic. However, once I got past that initial reaction, the atmosphere and maze of wooden platforms and ledges really got to me and I've got a strange love of the place despite the poisoning.

Oh, and after getting through all of the game so far (I had to restart as switched consoles) from the Burg to Blighttown without losing any souls or humanity through death, I managed to fall off a high tower in Blighttown and lose 6 humanity and 30,000 souls. Not best impressed.

But we wouldn't have it any other way would we?

You don't want to continue.
It'll only end in tears...

Seriously though, try and continue. You'll die a lot, but when you eventually succeed, you'll feel amazing!
