Lol , funny you should say that. This game feels to me A LOT like Zelda 2 . I don't know if you played it , but it's just a brutal , only difference is , Zelda 2 let you die 3 times before losing all your EXP , in Dark souls, you lose them after one death , and you get one chance to get it back.ZeroMachine said:I actually kinda like the menu's aesthetic. It represents the sort of game I wanted to get out of Dark Souls. Dark, dreary, old school difficulty.Gorilla Gunk said:Yeah but at least Demon's Souls' menu looked nice and didn't resemble something you'd see in an RPG made in the late 90's/early 00's. It's just ugly as fuck man.McNinja said:It's FROM Software. They couldn't consistently design a decent menu if their lives depended on it.
Definitely getting that, too. As Darksiders was the best Zelda game I played in a long time, I feel like this is the best Castlevania game I've played since Circle of the Moon![]()
only a few? I'm playing as a bandit ( god knows why ) , and it took me forever and a half , i have the timing of a jaguar , i could prolly catch bullets now. Yeah , great game , hard as hell a melee though, i tried to play as a sorcerer for fun just to see the difference, the bosses are a bit easier because you can spam soul bolt and hit them for pretty good damage from afar , assuming you have any charges left. But regular mobs are a little tougher. It's funny really, my Bandit can go through regular mobs as long as i'm carful and not over zealous, but Bosses break me to bits ... and on the sorcerer is the oposite .dillirgaf said:great since i beat the boss on the bridge, took me a couple tries.
Well , you character is undead ( hallowed ) use humanity at the bonfire to reverse hollofication ( turn human ) the advantages to being humsn is : better loot ( what loot?) the abilty to invade or be invaded ... Thats all i got so far . When you kindle a bon fire ( cost one humanity ) you get double your potion thinggies . So you got 10 instead of 5 . Also your bonfire will stay kindled so whenever you go there you get 10 .Gorilla Gunk said:Some other annoyances:
-I know Demon's Souls wasn't big on explaining shit to you, but it at least gave you the basics. I've played the game a few more hours and I still can't figure out the whole "Hollowed/Humanity" thing and have no idea what "Kindling" is or why my character looks like a burnt pizza. Can somebody please explain this shit to me?
-On the subject of my character, and this is an extremely minor/petty complaint, but I hate how I can no longer give my character the black, evil-looking eye sockets my character in Demon's Souls has. Guess it doesn't really matter anyway since, again, your character has a burnt pizza face so no matter how long you spent making you character look exactly the way you want him to you won't see it for awhile.
-The combat feels different. There seems to be very little feedback when I hit a guy so I just don't feel like I'm doing any damage. And I still haven't figured out how to backstab dudes.
-The HUD/Menus are still ugly as fuck and I'm starting to think they were deliberately designed that way.
You can only invade as hollow, but the advantage being is that you can summon players into your world. Besdies that you're correct.krazykidd said:Well , you character is undead ( hallowed ) use humanity at the bonfire to reverse hollofication ( turn human ) the advantages to being humsn is : better loot ( what loot?) the abilty to invade or be invaded ... Ah, attuning it at a bonfire. I knew I was missing something. Thank you.Ghostwise said:Equip the talisman to one of your hand slots and attune the magic at a bonfire. Things are going to be fun after I'm done leveling and stacking up on supplies.
It did take me forever to locate the first blacksmith and merchant, though. How I missed those staircases.....
Oh, and I rolled a Thief to start. DAT CRITICAL.
One question: how do I use Heal? I bought the spell, have a talisman, and my faith is 12. I can't figure out how to use/hotkey it.
You don't need to go to New Londo yet. I am level 56 and that place is tough (the ghosts become easy, but the knights who appear later on are deadly.)Burst6 said:I'm still on the first level after about 5 hours. I beat the boss on the bell tower, but now I'm out of the curse items that let me damage ghosts in the underground ruins. If anyone can tell me how to get more i would appreciate it.
Also, wow the difficulty really did jump. The enemies seem to be smarter, the hollow are a lot more challenging than the zombies and soldiers in Demon's souls.
The graphics are a bit weak, but i like all the new features they added to the game. For one if you wear the bear minimum of armor and weapons, you become really fast. Your dodge roll becomes quick and your back step becomes really useful. I like to grab my Estoc and fancy my way through hordes of monsters using nothing else but a pairing dagger and some pyromancer robes.
I found the door to the lower part of the undead burg. Thanks for the help.Korten12 said:You don't need to go to New Londo yet. Also once you unlock the ground level of Undead Burg, and go into the tunnel to Undead Burg and open the gate you couldn't open up the first time. On the other-side of the tunnel is an npc who sells the curses.
I'm not sure, but i don't think you should have a half(broken?) sword when you fight the first boss? What you need to do is ...ghost whistler said:I started playing this.
I can't even get past the first boss 'imminent fatty'.
I have half a sword.
Can't say this experience surprises me, but the framerate struggles when he smashes all the vases with his big hammer, and the lock on system is inhibited by the size of the guy so that it's difficult to see where you are in relation to him.
Death does have consequence and a fucking huge one at that. When you die you lose your souls ( read exp ) and you back to zero. You have a chance to get them back, you need to get back to where you died to get it back but the catch is if you die a second time , on your way back , you lose them forever . Souls are needed to gain levels , buy equipment , repair equipment , modify equipiment and buy items. Another conseuence for death is lost of humanity . So the game does punish you for dying ... Then it laughs at you , kils you again , puts salt on your wound and kills you again. This does one of two things , breaks a player or makes him more determined.ghost whistler said:This is just bizarre.
People say 'this is a manly man's game' and that it's 'realistic' - no invisible walls to protect you from falling of ledges, for example. But when you die you come back to life (as we all do, of course) and can start again. Unlike Oblivion or Dragon Age (those games people say are for pussies, now that DS exists).
Surely if death is so common in a game, as it apperas to be in DS - you will die a lot they say - then it must have no meaning. The player doesn't fear death, as he might in DA or Oblivion (which is the sort of trepidation the developers of DS want the player to feel), he just fears the tedious repetition of task to progress. That's something else entirely.
Sorry that I was vague, but I hope it helps. D:Burst6 said:I found the door to the lower part of the undead burg. Thanks for the help.Korten12 said:You don't need to go to New Londo yet.
