Straight forward, should I get Dark Souls or Rage? I want to read something convincing since I'm tore over which to play. From what I read, and despite what I've read, it seems inevitable that I'll eventually get both. So more like which first. Lets hear some arguments.

I would go with Dark Souls due to the extreme number of other FPS games coming out or have come out. Personally I own both but I made the mistake of actually buying the PC version of Rage. Considering Demon's Souls is one of my favorite games and I once defined my personal perfect game would be an open world game with Demon's Souls combat engine which is what they apparently tried to do (I say apparently because I haven't gotten far enough to verify it) so I guess they have been watching me. Though I have heard Dark Souls has some serious frame-rate problems at times but I don't know about Rage if it has this problem on consoles. I would try to recommend on moral choice (on which one is the better publisher with less problems) unfortunately I hate both Namco Bandai and Bethesda hasn't been doing themselves any favors with the Fallout MMO fiasco, the Scrolls legal issues going on right now, and apparently not believing QA testing is just a fairy tale since I hear of many of their games having these problems ALL THE TIME (I don't even mean The Elder Scrolls series I mean even games they don't even develop have these problems). I guess I would just recommend you which genre do you either like more or have less of FPS games or RPG games. Can't do much better than that so I guess I go back to waiting for id to actually say they are going to try fixing their game.

A big, sprawling, challenging action RPG or Yet Another 10-Hour Brown FPS? How is this even a contest?

I think you should listen to this guy. He seems completely un-biased.

Anyway, I would think that'd be easy to determine: just what are you in the mood for? I don't yet have either of these games so I can't really give any personal recommendations. I'd just ask myself "What type of a game do I want to play right now?"

I did not like Dark Souls. So, if you are anything like me, I would get Rage.

Having had both for a bit over day now, and having bit in a good few hours on each, go with Dark Souls. Dark Souls hardly lives up to the reviews that are praising it as perfection, and it's really not a "can't put it down" type of thing, but it's still rather good and can be very rewarding when you do things right and get through an area alive for once. Rage... Is hardly horrible or anything, but in the end it's about what you'd expect, a generic wasteland shooter. It's alright, but certainly shouldn't be on any wish lists, nothing there you haven't seen and done many times before.

Honestly, I'd say Dark Souls or neither. Dark Souls really depends on what you enjoy, and if you liked Demon's Souls it should be a definite yes, but Rage is hardly worth bothering with at all, just don't waste your time.

As a PC gamer I wish I could play Dark Souls. While I can't comment on the game itself, I will say that it is a fundamentally different game -- a hardcore, action RPG.

Rage is an unapologetic shooter, mixed with some arcade-style combat driving and it does it very well. I have been playing Rage and it's a total blast to play and looks positively stunning. It's about as deep as the shallow end of the pool, but I've always had a lot of 'just plain fun' water fights in the shallow end of a pool.

Do some research on both games and see what appeals more to you. Both games look great and have their own selling points.

Have fun.

Of course I'm biased! You are biased too, but you're less honest about it... ;)

Of course it's bloody brown it's post apocalyptic! Also have you looked in the sky? It's a very deep blue and that's a color different than brown when i last checked. RAGE is a good game. The only issues I have with it is technical and those damn pop ins. Dark Souls is a good game as well, but I would choose RAGE solely because of the engine behind it

I'm biased, but I'm not actively trying to display the opposite side in a bad light in order to make my pick seem more appealing. If that's called dishonesty, then call me dishonest.

The gameplay footage I've seen of Rage isn't all that interesting. If Dark Souls plays like Demon's Souls, it would probably be a lot more fun than Rage.

I am not going to buy either (at least not straight away). However, as I am a member of love film and can rent games for longer quite cheaply (no I don't work for them and am not getting paid to advertise) I will be renting both.

So, it's wrong to have an opinion unless it's completely and utterly neutral?

That is not at all what I said. My point is that you're not making a fair comparison. You're emphasizing one's negative traits and one's positive traits. You can have whatever opinion you want, but it doesn't necessitate you to intellectual dishonesty.

I'm not being dishonest. For me, Rage's most notable aspects are that it's a short FPS game with boring visuals. I don't like it very much. On the other hand, I like Dark Souls and I listed some of the reasons. How is that dishonest? I don't see why I should play up something I don't like...
