That is right. We can now Pre-order Dark Souls Prepare to die Edition AND it is much cheaper then the Console release!

$40 instead of the expected $60!

Thoughts on this awesome piece of news?

Unfortunately...

"Online play requires software installation of and log-in to Games For Windows - LIVE"

FUCK. No god damn it!

Meh. It wasn't too bad in Dawn of War 2 or Arkham City, I'm not too worried it'll be annoying here.

Also happy they didn't go for the 60dollar tag, though I probably would have paid it..

I realize porting from Xbox to Games for Windows Fail is probably easiest, but I can't help feeling that they missed the point of why people wanted it on Steam.

I guess the lack of K&M support plus GFWL explains the price, hey at least it a more honest pricing.
And we can be sure there will be user patches for that GFWL gobshite.

The reason they did GFWL is it's closer to Xbox live so they could port it over relatively easily. I mean you still have the right to complain that GFWL sucks, but maybe you can see form there point of view that they didn't want to completely rewrite the online stuff. GFWL dose suck but I do see why they did it.

Woohoo!

I'm really excited. Sure, GFWL sucks, but I'll just play offline most of the time. I've had enough P2P gameplay on the 360 version, so I can focus on the new content for this version. The cheaper price is a bonus!

It's not like Fallout 3 where disabling it will have no problem. Dark Souls is mean't be played online. Sure you can play it offline but your missing out on a lot.

No K&M support AT ALL? WhAT? Where does it say this?

This game has gone from a pre-order, to a buy shortly after release, to a "pick up when it's like £6 on Amazon on on a 75% off steam sale".

There's no point in me having this on Steam either now if it contains GFWL, may as well have the retail copy..

Way to fudge up a release....

GFWL is a really big turnoff, being a bit consumer unfriendly.

Given the information I've heard, I have reason to doubt that it will be a good port as well.

I?m not going to preorder but I do plan on buying this. GFWL is a bit of a turn off but I can deal with that provided it?s not screwing things up too badly and shitty Kb&M support doesn?t matter to me since I plan on using a controller. However I think I?ll wait until reviews to make sure it actually works properly.

No one likes GFWL, that much is certain. But that will not dissuade me from buying the game if the pros outweigh cons. I will not pre-order it though. Developers said how they weren't able to fix the FPS drops. And I am yet to see the control scheme with M&K and how the game actually plays on the PC. I will wait for some good reviewers I respect to review the game before I make the decision.

I'll double dip sometime when I get a better PC.
Also, protip for anyone wanting to play, get a gamepad. Seriously.

Not much point to this, it will run worse than the console versions, GFWL will mean you keep losing saves and have an awful patching experience every time you load it.

I will have a look at the reviews for this once it comes out, I want to see how it performs on the PC before I consider getting it.

It looks REALLY good but they said in another article how hard it was going to be.

I'll keep my eye on this. If the port is decent I'll probably buy it. I have a PS3 but I never use it these days and I prefer to game on my laptop. But I don't really want to spend the dough if it runs like crap even on a good machine.

OK maybe I should have been more clear, the game will not be adopted to K&M controls but rather have it emulate the input as a gamepad, can't tell you what exactly this will result in but it never turned out well in other games.

40 Euros? ONLY 40????

Yeah, I'll gladly put up with GFWL at that price for a new game. Gotta give em credit for keeping the price a bit lower.
No I was talking American/Canadian when I said $40. Sorry buddy not sure how much the Euro version will be.
