Over easter I think I would like to buy a game of the hack 'n' slash variety.
I dont have a PS3 otherwise i'd wait for God of War 3, as it stands it seems my choice is between those three.
So guys and girls, whihc do you think is the best value? Most fun?
I'd also appreciate any other hack 'n' slash, swordplay style games you guys like.

I've owned all three games.

I've finished Darksiders, and it's a hell of a lot of fun, despite some infurating puzzles. However, the combat and art style make up for any gameplay flaws.

Bayonetta, I simply couldn't get into. Maybe it's because I was never into Devil May Cry, maybe it's because I thought the whole look and gameplay feels silly, I ended up returning it.

Dante's Inferno is, of those you mentioned, the one that lives up best to the "hack'n'slash" genre, as it's a game simply about inflicting violence in a creative backdrop.

As far as recommending a single one... that's a bit tough. I wouldn't recomment Bayonetta, and whether Dante's Inferno or Darksiders is better... well... personally, I like them both for different reasons. Dante's is more mature and direct, Darksider's is more comic book-ish.

Hmm well since you don't have a PS3 Dante's Inferno is worth a look since it is mechanically 99% God of War among other things like camera style etc. The story isn't quite as interesting since they are more or less messing up the Divine Comedy. Bayonetta is a great game, gameplay wise if a bit shallow. The story can be difficult to follow since it basically waits until the very end to actually explain itself. I have had more fun with this than Dante's Inferno. Darksiders is a competent but rather boring game to me. I feel like I have seen all their puzzles before, and just don't feel to interested in the characters or setting. The combat is also extremely one dimensional though it has some bright spots like Ruin which you get towards the middle/end of the game. Killing enemies while on horseback was fun.

Out of those 3.. I'd say skip them all and go for Ninja Gaiden if you haven't played it already.
Hmm, I accept this. NG is better than all of these gameplay wise.

I played all of them and none of them were that good for me to be honest. Dante is a mediocre God of War rip-off although it does creative and brutal environments, Darksiders I tried and I didnt like it to be honest, it was simply boring and Bayonetta... oh jeez, I played it and I still have no idea what the fuck I played. It is simply so over the top and so many things happening on screen that you get confused for a lifetime. Maybe because I am a massive God of War but none of these games were that good. The best solution would be to get a ps3 with God of War Collection and God of War 3. However if you must pick something from these then get Dante's Inferno since its the closest to God of War 3

Get a PS3, all three of those games are a shitty God of War rip off. If you won't get a PS3 then here are your choices, Bayonetta is an extreamly sexualized and cinimatic shitty God of War rip off. Darksiders has more in common with the Legend of Zelda than most shitty God of War rip offs, although it rips off Legend of Zelda as badly as it rips off God of War. Finally, Dantes Inferno is a grind filled brown hell filled with interesting demons for each circle of hell, although it destroys the poem it was based on and gets boring half-way through the game, so it's a shitty God of War rip of and a Shitty Reniassance poem rip off in the form of a game. Take your pick from the pile of shit.

I've only played Bayonetta, and I must say, I love it. It's an impressive hack 'n slash that have kept me entertained for long. The sex appeal is there, but I didn't find it that annoying. It's mostly something you can overlook easily.

It's got a well done combo system, and despite keeping the DMC tradition of pea dispensers as guns, you can replace them with a katana and other cool stuff. But what I love the most, are the boss fights. I love boss fights that take time to kill, they're so much fun, and they really draw the contrast between smaller enemies and real monsters. The story is meh, but it isn't that bad.

The only thing that really annoys me is Bayonetta's voice. Sometimes she sounds like a normal person, sometimes she sounds sexy, and sometimes she sounds like someone's old aunt trying to be sexy. *shudders*

But other than that, it's a great game that I recommend. Just get the 360 version, the PS3 one has bugs and loads of loading times as far as I've heard it, while the 360 one has barely any loading times and flows like a stoneless river.

Oh, and complaints about it being too cutscene-ish? I didn't see it. It contained a few fight scenes that I wish I could be part of, but compared to DMC, it gives you most of the control.

I think maybe it's best to realize there's room for God of War and other games. I have the God of War games, and I enjoy them, but I also enjoy the games mentioned above.

Also, as a history student, I personally believe that 95% of the people saying that Dante's Inferno butchers the poem haven't ever actually read The Divine Comedy. Not aimed at anyone in particullar, it just kinda grinds my gears.

Do you guys remember the time when every shooter was a doomclone/ripoff?
I would argue that darksiders has less in common with god of war then any racing game with the next one.
And Bayonetta is from the creaters of devil may cry and quite similar.
And quess what? Devil may cry was out there before god of war.
Ripping of god of war before it was even out, now thats audacity.
And Dantes Inferno.....wait they made a game for the ad campaign?

Very good summary, I applaud you. Personally I do get into DMC, so Bayonetta is a sound choice for me, but the other two are very good representatives of the genre, for anyone into hack'n'slash.

Bayonetta's the only one that I found half decent, provided you can't get a PS3 to enjoy GOW3.
Not that I personally enjoyed Bayonetta, I didn't. But I found Darksiders and Dante's Inferno in particular to be absolute shit. No offense to people who actually like those games,it's just that they're bland, uninspiring, repetitve and the main characters have all the personality of a lump of dead wood.

I would just like to mention that I never got into Zelda, yet despite that (or maybe because of it) I quite enjoyed Darksiders.

Okay, you should tone down the "shitty God of War ripoff" talk, it's getting excessive. Bayonetta isn't a GoW ripoff, it takes more inspiration from Devil May Cry. You don't see Kratos running around with a pair of pistols.

And the reason for them being "ripoffs" is because God of War is one of the pillar stones in the genre. It's like calling all fighting games Street Fighter ripoffs. The only one that seems like a true "rip-off" is Dante's Inferno, but I don't know, I haven't played the whole thing. If I'm allowed to say my part on the matter, God of War isn't that good. The first one was really fun, I'll admit that, but it wasn't the grand prize taker of all time, and the second one was just the same with some new environments. I do have hope for GoW 3, however. :D

I loved Bayonetta, Darksiders was pretty good, but Dante's Inferno wasn't so good.

The main problem with Dante's Inferno was the last third of the game, which is completly dull, and the puzzle sections just aren't up to scratch.

Darksiders is great, but it's main flaw is that the combat could be better. Alot better. Having a decent dodge move would be a good start.

Bayonetta added some unique features to the table, with things like Witch Time, The ability to slow down time when dodging at just the right time, and Witch Walk, Allowing you to walk on walls when the moon is out. Also, it has the greatest difficulty, and dear god, it is so much more fun, because of how serious you can't take it. If you take it seriously, you will have a bad time, as long as you don't, you will have perhaps a better time than if you were searching on the internet about this anagram. O-R-P-N.

Calumon: Norp! Norp! What's Norp?
