Do you guys remember the time when every shooter was a doomclone/ripoff?
I would argue that darksiders has less in common with god of war then any racing game with the next one.
And Bayonetta is from the creaters of devil may cry and quite similar.
And quess what? Devil may cry was out there before god of war.
Ripping of god of war before it was even out, now thats audacity.
And Dantes Inferno.....wait they made a game for the ad campaign?
Shooters were that way because mechanically they weren't really any different from Doom. These kinds of games for whatever reason at the very top tier all tend to be very different from each other mechanically even though you are doing the same things. Even Bayonetta manages not to clone DMC and Hideki Kamiya pretty much had the right to do so since he made DMC in the first place.

Get a PS3, all three of those games are a shitty God of War rip off. If you won't get a PS3 then here are your choices, Bayonetta is an extreamly sexualized and cinimatic shitty God of War rip off. Darksiders has more in common with the Legend of Zelda than most shitty God of War rip offs, although it rips off Legend of Zelda as badly as it rips off God of War. Finally, Dantes Inferno is a grind filled brown hell filled with interesting demons for each circle of hell, although it destroys the poem it was based on and gets boring half-way through the game, so it's a shitty God of War rip of and a Shitty Reniassance poem rip off in the form of a game. Take your pick from the pile of shit.
Okay, you should tone down the "shitty God of War ripoff" talk, it's getting excessive. Bayonetta isn't a GoW ripoff, it takes more inspiration from Devil May Cry. You don't see Kratos running around with a pair of pistols.

And the reason for them being "ripoffs" is because God of War is one of the pillar stones in the genre. It's like calling all fighting games Street Fighter ripoffs. The only one that seems like a true "rip-off" is Dante's Inferno, but I don't know, I haven't played the whole thing. If I'm allowed to say my part on the matter, God of War isn't that good. The first one was really fun, I'll admit that, but it wasn't the grand prize taker of all time, and the second one was just the same with some new environments. I do have hope for GoW 3, however. :D
Bayonetta is going to have similarities to Devil May Cry both are directed by the same guy (also Kratos had a bow for ranged attacks). I stated that Darksiders is a frankenstien of GoW and LoZ, and we both agree that Dantes Inferno is a GoW rip off (see how I didn't use shitty there).

I know that, but it's still clear that it's not the same game. It has differences that makes it it's own game. (Also, the bow was just another one of the powerups, while the guns are a primary part of the game) I'm going to play Darksiders hopefully, and I'm holding high hopes for it since I love violence and Zelda. And Dante's Inferno, it can still be good.

Well, considering that God of War wasn't the first hack and slash game, none of the above are God of War ripoffs. Go spout your PS3 fanboyism elsewhere.
Have you not even thought that, if anything Bayonetta rips off devil may cry, which was made by the same guy. And DMC didn't rip off GoW, because it was out before it. (Ok to be fair, Dantes Inferno is pretty much a rip off of GoW, but it's still fun)

OT: Personally, I'd say Dantes Inferno or Bayonetta. I just didn't like darksiders.

I think maybe it's best to realize there's room for God of War and other games. I have the God of War games, and I enjoy them, but I also enjoy the games mentioned above.

Also, as a history student, I personally believe that 95% of the people saying that Dante's Inferno butchers the poem haven't ever actually read The Divine Comedy. Not aimed at anyone in particullar, it just kinda grinds my gears.
Ive read it, and I say that. I mean come on, Dante is a badass, destructive crusader dude who kills death and takes his scythe, and Beatrice is a standard, boring damsel in distress story. That's enough to completely destroy the intent of the poem alone. To be fair, ive only read developer commentary, watched a few videos, and played the demo. But I would cut he game a lot more slack if they said there game was inspired by the Comedy, not an imagining of it.

THIS. This game could have been alright if they had done just that. Dante is actually a rather decent example of a flawed human being, but because we know the character is wrong for the story in which this game confines itself we keep being confronted with the destruction of the poem itself. That, and not steal whole animations from God of War, or forget that Kratos' visual style works because it ties into everything from the meaning of his name to his background as a Spartan. Dante's visual style simply doesn't fit anything in the game world and therefore ends up goofy looking.

Out of those 3.. I'd say skip them all and go for Ninja Gaiden if you haven't played it already.
Yeah, Ninja Gaiden is the daddy. Even Ninja Gaiden 2 or NG Sigma 2 are probably marginally better than Bayonetta. I think Bayonetta is the sort of game that games reviewers and 100% completists go for, not non-virtuoso gamers that don't care about getting every trophy/achievement.

I would say that the game is as successful a poem-to-action game adaptation as can be. :p

I don't own a PS3 nor am I a fanboy you idiot. I am aware there are other hack and slashs out there and GoW wasn't the first, GoW is just well known and is a good hack and slash game. Yes I know Bayonetta is made by the creator of DMC, I didn't even mention that. In short I was saying that if the original poster wanted a good hack and slash game like he should get a PS3 or PS2 because both it and the first 2 GoW games would be cheaper.

I've owned all three games.

I've finished Darksiders, and it's a hell of a lot of fun, despite some infurating puzzles. However, the combat and art style make up for any gameplay flaws.

Bayonetta, I simply couldn't get into. Maybe it's because I was never into Devil May Cry, maybe it's because I thought the whole look and gameplay feels silly, I ended up returning it.

Dante's Inferno is, of those you mentioned, the one that lives up best to the "hack'n'slash" genre, as it's a game simply about inflicting violence in a creative backdrop.

As far as recommending a single one... that's a bit tough. I wouldn't recomment Bayonetta, and whether Dante's Inferno or Darksiders is better... well... personally, I like them both for different reasons. Dante's is more mature and direct, Darksider's is more comic book-ish.
This is pretty much how I see it too. Darksiders is well worth it, but it's more akin to Zelda than God of War.

well i would say darksiders but that isnt as good on 360 than ps3
so perhaps dantes inferno, a game that gets poor about half way through.
or bayonetta better on the 360 and well reviewed, but seems too silly and casual.

anyway there are demos for all 3 of these games out on live just look for them, or if no live go round a friends house.

also couldnt you borrow these from friends?

as for a reccomendation for you if you like more devil may cry and casual games than i think youll enjoy bayonetta

if your more into god of war like games go for the other two. dantes inferno seems shorter and gets very repetitive about halfway through so seems good but for a very short time. darksiders is longer and seems a better alrounder, but the 'puzzles' seem poor and you may get lost/confused which may drive you nuts. and its a much more clear rip of,(may not concern if no experience of god of war) between the two if i was buying it illd go for darksiders as illd want more than 3-4 hours of good gaming.

so casual/dMC=bayoneta
god of war = darksiders

go for whichever fits you best.

All of those games are not terribly good. Dante's Inferno being by far the worst of all.

Bayonetta if you like Japanese games, otherwise Darksiders.

Take the 60 bucks you were gonna spend on a game and get three months of Gamefly and play all 3, I love it, just got done with God of War Collection now I can send it back and have my next game sent. I know this sounds like an ad but it has saved me a lot of money on my local game rental store and I don't like buying single player games.

definatly Bayonetta, ive finished 4 times now and its still alot of fun. I played Dantes inferno just the other day it was good but it slows down alot at the end. And as for darksiders I havent had the chance to play it yet.

I never played darksiders

Baynetta was such complete crap that I stopped playing it

Dante's Inferno was good but it seems they ran out of ideas about half way through

so... Dante's Inferno

I haven't played any of them, but I would Dante's Inferno would be the best to play. Simply because it interests me the most.
