From "Requiem For A Dream" to "Robocop".

This is either going to be a cinematic travesty to end all travesties, or it will be the most amazing thing ever made.

Nope. It's Jose Padilha the one who is remaking it now. I think Aronofsky either bowed out due to the financial issues with MGM studios or remained in some kind of executive capacity.

Either way, it will be Brazillian dude who will direct it.

Trying not to be that guy, but do all these older movies really need remade? It seems like a cash in on obscure geek culture. Like some guy was watching the G4 movies that dont suck and thought "hey, that needs to be made again".

...

so yeah. I actually I have no idea who that guy is, so thats all i can say really. Other then you could always give it to michael bay.

No, no it doesn't need to be remade.

No movie needs to be remade.

Will it be any good? If I go by a lot of the remakes i've seen then no it will be terrible.

Has it got so bad that they can't think of new ideas for films? Do they have to keep ripping up movies from our youth?

So long as it doesn't become a ridiculously painful 2 hour long antidrug commercial, I'll go see it.

I still am adamant in my thoughts that remakes in general are typically a bad idea bu they're not always unenjoyable. If it retains the similar feel of the original without getting up its own arse like most of Aronofsky's movies tend to get, I've got no problems with hit.

I haven't been able to seen the original Robocop but I don't think it needs one. Offtopic: You know, a film I want remade is Starship Troopers. That one deserves a fresh, faithful start.

And so begins yet another inevitable battle of whether remakes themselves are a good idea or not. Personally as a strong proponent of the idea that, just as our own MovieBob says, you really can make a good film out of anything, that includes ideas that have already been done. Tons of remakes have been good, tons of new movies are terrible. If it just focuses on being good and succeeds, I couldn't care less where it came from.

As far as this one goes, I'm not really sure what to make of it. I know very little about the original and even less about how this one will conduct itself, but there's certainly potential in the idea if they can explore it properly.

Never watched robocop but I will regard it in the same sense as the new version of The Thing, Which is "LEAVE CULT FILMS THE FUCK ALONE"

On paper I have nothing against remakes. The problem comes when these remakes completely miss the point of the original. *cough*XCOM, Italian Job*cough*

Obscure?

When did Robocop become obscure? It was a successful film, well-received, and the source of quite a few pop culture references since.

Anyway, all I can say on the topic is it has to be better by default than the last couple of attempts to revive the series.

Hmm.

I don't really think there's much improvement that can be made. Robocop wasn't exactly a big special fx movie. The only really dodgy effects were the ED209 stuff. Other than that it's held up fairly well, even if it is quite obviously 80s, though I think that only adds to the aesthetic of the movie.

Robocop 2 and 3 could do with effects updates though. [small](And personally I don't think 3 was as bad as most people make it out to be...)[/small]

I WOULDN'T buy that for a Dollar!

Seriously though, why? Leave it alone.I love Robocop (hell, even 2 was pretty decent in parts) & think this remake will just be stupidly OTT, and not in a fun way like the original was.

You want to remake something Hollywood? Go nuts on Robocop 3.That movie was shit, so whether or not you make it worse, you're not losing anything.
