Data cap issues?

Just out of curiosity, how do people get to the point of data caps being an issue? I watch Youtube a lot, and I have about 4 or 5 shows I watch through streaming, whether it be on Hulu or other places. My total amount of data used this year is 11.45 gigabytes. My data cap is 250 GB a month, and I hear people complaining about easily hitting that cap.

My question is, to all those people, or anyone who has problems with them, what do you do that takes up that much bandwidth?

250GB a month is a really big limit. Seriously, I have uncapped internet, pretty frequently download games from steam and mods for games and stuff and don't get that much. I think your cap is just unusually high.

I thought so too, but Comcast has recently dropped the limit to test for a 300 GB/month cap, with an added charge of $10 per 50GB. The reason for this is complaints about how unreasonable the data cap is, with people complaining that streaming certain things counts toward the cap, and not others.

Captcha: dollars to donuts. How fitting.

This may be because I either never reach it or I'm not a computer expert, but...I don't really understand the question.

Heh...my ISP has a cap of 50Go/month, really easy to break imo...

They also charge 7$ per exceeding Go , highway robbery version 2012 :)

Edit: that's 50Go upload/download combined , not 50/50

Welcome to Canada !

I got 90Go per month, I use about 75% of it. I have more trouble with my cell phone cap, which is 2Go per month, and I often break it...

Well THAT was uncalled for.

On topic, i use to have 100GB per month, and I would never hit it. With the usual Games, Youtube and general browsing. Now I am on Unlimited...

As far as I'm aware of I have downloaded more than 400GB in a month, never had this issue that the people in America usually have.

Heck I remember a Ars article stating that its getting "cheaper" to run and manage internet services and in other country's other than the USA the prices either stayed stable with higher transfer speeds or a marginal raise in price and speed with no data cap OR that the cap is so high that it's not even worth mentioning to the above average user.

Bienvenue! I've got 60GB a month, and I usually have to stop watching videos during the last week to squeak under. These Americans with their 250GB caps, it makes me want to mumble something impolite under my breath! Sorry if I offend.

We use Netflix instead of Cable (with my wife a stay at home mom). Steam downloads. Apple Store songs, movies, and apps. Xbox LIVE DLC and updates. HD Movies specifically. We switched to business class a while ago, though, mostly for a better connection, but lack of cap is nice too; generally in the 250-300gb range per month.
