Sounds right to me. Fat people don't come to mind when you say the word "beautiful". Discriminatory but they have a right to be, just like the mods would ban me if I started posting Hentai and naked fat people.

Now I know some people have a fat fetish, but this is different in so much as it relies on physical appearances as a whole rather than hair, ethnic/race, accent, or dress code. It's like a porno with nothing but 80 year olds. Noone wants to see that, besides a "disturbed" (by society's measure and most people's) few.

Is it snobby? Is it being an asshole? Yeah, but there's nothing really wrong with it in this scenario.
1.) How is letting overweight people use your dating service ANYTHING like posting pictures of naked fat people and hentai on The Escapist forum? Seriously, explain to me how this makes any fucking sense at all.
2.) That last statement I bolded is a massive contradiction, you say it is snobby and it is an assholish thing to do, but that there is nothing wrong with it, did you hit your head? If not, you should, maybe it will help.

Basically, a dating site named beautifulpeople.com (you should be able to see where this is going) expelled 5,000 members over the holiday season for packing on the pounds. The site prides itself on being exclusively for beautiful people, and says "Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model".

What are your thoughts? I see where their coming from on upkeeping standards, but relationships should be built on more than just physical appearance. As a relationship site, that's really a bad move.
I think it's freakin hilarious.
and it's a private site, they can do what they want with it.

In the long term it makes a good business plan, as the sense of exculsivity will make many customers feel superior.

I don`t need a dating site to tell me that I`m beautiful

Oh no! A DATING WEBSITE not holding up to moral standards? STOP THE FUCKING PRESSES!

Seriously, what do you expect? I guess they wanted to make sure the pedophiles who use their site would be able to run fast to avoid the cops, so they could never get connected to their site.
Paedophiles...
On a dating site for (I assume) consenting adults...
I can't help but think they're wasting their time.

For the record what moral standards is the site not "holding up to" as you say?
Its a site for people looking for attractive partners, people will be doing that regardless of whether there is a website devoted to it or not.
If it were just a general dating site then I agree it would be wrong. But it was advertised very specifically as being exclusively for beautiful people, and in our culture, fat is generally not considered beautiful.

Hell there's probably websites out there devoted to matchmaking for overweight people, do you really think they would hesitate to refuse service to some stick insect supermodel?

The whole concept of "A website only for beautiful people" pretty much breaks every moral standard I can possibly think of. It is fine if you only search and interact with people you find attractive on the site, but for a website to say "you don't deserve to find a partner with our site because you are fat" is just awful, think about what that does to a person's self esteem.

Especially people who can't help it because of glandular problems, even if they wouldn't get any attention on the site, saying they aren't good enough to use their service (if it was a safety thing, like a weight limit on an amusement park ride it'd be ok, but they are saying these people aren't good enough for their website purely based on aesthetics) because they weigh a certain amount is awful.

For people with glandular problems, obesity is as much of a disability that they cannot help as someone who is blind or deaf, could you imagine if this site banned 5000 people because they were blind? Or deaf? It would be a fucking uproar.

1)It's just inappropriate for the site.
2)My point is you can consider it assholish and snobby, and it may be, but in context their actions make perfect sense.

My point was that YOU called it assholish and snobby, but then said (not that it made sense in context) that it was not wrong. I find that to be a massive contradiction.

Also, do you really need an analogy to say that fat people are "inappropriate" for a site self proclaimed to be for "beautiful people". Also, posting Hentai and Naked Fat People is lude and horribly disgusting to expose unsuspecting people to, if you say, "yeah that's the same, these fat people are lude and horribly disgusting to expose unsuspecting people to" Then I will punch you in the face, yes, I know this is the internet, but I WILL find a way to punch you over the internet.

*shrug* So I made a mistake in conveying my point. Look at it this way:Some guy has private property. Some other guy wants to walk in, and has never done anything wrong or deserving of not been allowed in. He tries to go in, guy who owns the house says "No, get out, go away". Could the guy who owns the house be called an asshole or a douchebag? Yeah, but there's nothing wrong about what he did. It's his property. It's their site.

And honestly I was going to come back with that line as a troll after reading the sentence, but you got all ITG. Simmer down. Sad as it is, that is honestly what some people would say, and not of all of those people are trolls. Maybe you have a problem with fat not being considered beautiful. But that's a personal issue of individual perception. If the owners of the site say "fuck off", it's within their right to do so, and no wrong was committed. If say the site didn't want redheads, or blondes, or such they're within their right.

Sorry, it's hard to get outraged about an action like this when *fucking white supremacists (Stormfront)* have a website on the Internet.

There are plenty of websites around for anyone to use, just general dating sites. Then there are websites for people looking for something specific. Furry dating websites, inter-racial dating websites, hell there are probably websites specifically for people with disabilities.
Its not immoral its common sense, there are large numbers of people who will not under any circumstance, consider dating someone who doesn't meet a certain standard of beauty. Rather than having to sort through piles of "plain" people's profiles on a normal dating service they have their own community which caters exclusively to their desires.

People have different wants and needs and there are websites that cater to these people. Sure we could let a heterosexual man join a lesbian dating service, but he's not gonna have much luck, much like an "ugly person" on a site for beautiful people.

First thought: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *breath* HAHYAHAHAHAHAHAHA*falls over*

second thought: Well I suppose it's there call but it seems like most of the people looking for dates on the internet would be ugly since beautiful people don't need to find people online, people come to them. They seem to be shooting themselves in the foot, but it's their site.

As a person who tries very hard to keep my self in shape and to maintain a healthy body, is it wrrong for me to want a women who tries just as hard?

Fat is fat, a fatty might find fat sexy but I dont, its a turn off. Sure you might have the greatest personality ever, but your only ever gonna be a friend if you dont care about the health of your own body.

And how do we know what these people are like? why does it only seem that people who are attractive and active has terrible personalities but fatties have hearts of gold? what do we live in a romantic comedy? I've met a hell of lot more nice fit people and a shit ton of fat bitches.

I don't see the problem...Honestly, how can anyone be surprised at how vain and judgmental people (myself included) are? Do you honestly think most people would be looking to date a porker? I sure as fuck wouldn't, while I don't go out of my way to upset overweight people, I have not motivation to date them.

If I was to subscribe to a dating service (however unlikely that may be) I wouldn't want it full of people I've no physical interest in.
Pegghead said:
Bunch of snobby assholes. If they're apparently so beautiful then why do they have to resort to such a desperate dating method.

They may be beautiful people, but they have ugly souls.
Ugly souls, really? That's probably the weakest thing I've ever heard... If you were spending hours a week working out in a gym so as to make yourself look pleasing, surely you wouldn't think it unreasonable to find a partner who is also willing to put in the effort to be attractive.

Thank god, the last thing I want to run into when looking for a mate is fat people. It may sound shallow, but who cares!

It doesn't surprise me that something like this would happen. But really what does it matter if thats what people want in a person is just outer beauty then so be it. Leaves the people with actual personality and inner beauty behind for us.
