Currently downloading now! Damn this slow connection!
Can't wait to try all the new stuff!
Is it true that all races now have a campaign?
For singleplayer, yes. Beta is only multiplayer however.
Was playing earlier tonight. I used to be pretty damned good at this game. When DoW2 first came out I played Eldar, then I migrated over to Orkz as my favourites with Chaos Rising, and more recently I've been trying out all the different races in the beta... and getting my ass mercilessly handed to me time and time again. Jeez, it's just brutal! I know I haven't played for awhile, but this is humiliating. Still I decided to give Eldar another shot and after a few duds finally managed to scratch myself a bare few victories before signing off for the evening. Probably something like 10 loses, 3 wins. Eug! Past me would be ashamed of current me.
Still, new units are great and although I suck at em right now, the Imperial Guard are
fun. It's also nice to see Relic making them properly numerous. Guardsmen squads get bigger and bigger as you update them till by the endgame a single squad has something like 15-20 soldiers in there, commissars waving their swords high in the air as ranks of infantry fire those stupid little flashlights everywhere. They're also by far the most capable race when it comes to digging in, with even basic infantry building turrets and cover while you're capable of constructing bunkers and, if you choose the defensive hero, even massive gun turrets and heavy artillery. Trying to attack a properly hunkered down Imperial Guard player is as daunting as it should be... and I haven't even mentioned the tanks.
How the hell do you stop a Baneblade? Those things just roll over anything that defies them. Makes the Avatar look like a punk and the Space Marines tank a lil' pipsqueak.
Indeed I'm having trouble figuring out how I'm supposed to counter the Imperial Guard. Between the tanks and the sheer numbers, beating a player who knows how to use them is difficult. Sure, get close and they're toast. Guardsmen are useless at melee and really the IG only have 1 decent melee unit I've noticed! But it's getting close that's the problem, especially once the IG player has hit that 'critical mass' stage where just looking at em causes em to fill your screen with shooting and explosions.
Ah well, the new units for the other races seem neat as well. The new Eldar unit is a fantastic hit & run melee champion that's actually pretty handy for fighting Guardsmen since she can pop in, blow some guys up, cut up some others, then literally fly away to be called down once again seconds later on another part of the map. Orc wagon is hilariously deadly and unstable! And... haven't really played much with the others.
Thems Imperial Guards though, fun times!
