Honestly, this has to be among the most controversial game launches in history among actual gamers. Honestly, with the shitstorm floating around this game I can't imagine that it doesn't hurt sales. This will either damn people to thinking all gamers whine but don't do anything or that we actually will boycott something.
Honestly, I cancelled my ME3 order. Amazon sent it anyway. Which is a bit of a pisser since I can't AFFORD it and they've taken the dosh out the bank anyway.
Sigh.

I said in the Tali's face thread that Bioware hit a new low, something I thought was impossible, but lo and behold! They sank even further with this.
I wanted to read that thread so much, but spoilers! And possibly heartbreak, but mostly spoilers.
If you couldn't afford it, why would you order it in the first place? DLC issue aside.

Well they could have removed that from the disc.

Are they that stupid or just in a crusade of insulting costumers?

Why are you making such a big deal of my comment? If it makes you happy, I could care less about the DLC already being on the disk.
You still made an offtopic post which did not contribute at all.

Also, it's "COULDN'T care less".

Seriously, can this hole that EA and Bioware are digging with ME3 get much deeper? Seems like every other day something different comes to light. Oh well, doesn't impact me. I already decided I won't be buying the game as long as it requires Origin.

The trillions of complaints and 'oh how evil Bioware, boycott, etc etc' isn't going to change -anything- because Mass Effect 3 is going to sell like hotcakes, and everyone knows it. And the DLC will make them money, and everyone knows it.

I still had a job when I ordered it, all those months ago.

This was the same with Kasumi in ME2, and I believe Liara also had some dialog on the disk for the Shadow Broker stuff in that game as well.

I think we all need to just chill the fuck out.

Why are people surprised by anything EA-Bioware does? They're a bunch of greedy assholes and will do these things to make sure they get the most money from you by doing the least amount of work, then complain you're the problem when you tell them they're assholes for doing it.

Well I'll be god damned...looks like I've a large platter of crow to start eating since I was one of the one's defending Bioware's side of the story...if the character's assets actually were on the disc then I was most assuredly mistaken to give them the benefit of the doubt.

To be fair, though, downloading the character is a full download...one would think that if all you were doing was unlocking the character's data on the disc itself, it wouldn't take 5 to 10 minutes to download.

About the article, not surprised in the slightest as it was too good of a marketing move and easy way to make cash not to take it. What mass effect fan worth his/her salt will pass over a prothean team mate?
But that's not why I'm posting.

Rather am posting to say I love the style in which the article was written, neutral and without obvious biases from the author. Certain choices of terms like brouhaha amongst certain groups of gamers surprised me as I know certain other news writers wouldn't have been so diplomatic and would have instead gleefully injected their own viewpoints in their news articles. Though a fair amount of escapists seem to eat it all up, I find its rather poisonous and unprofessional.

So yeh nice article.

Is it weird that I assume all day 1 DLC is on the disc? I tend to unless told otherwise. So I'm not 'shocked' with project $10 out there having it on the disc is a time saving step for developers I'd think.

That makes me no less irritated by this skeezy practice.

I'm not surprised by anything any more, stuff like this just keeps constantly turning me off from modern gaming. I never played any of the mass effect games so to be honest I don't care, I don't buy DLC unless its for things like littlebigplanet where I get some cool outfits or level packs. But stuff already on the disc I paid the 60 bucks for and gotta pay more to get that's not even important is bullshit. Abusing the DLC idea for shit like this is just horrible, it makes people angry, not excited to buy your game but you still insist on doing it. Where is all the money going to when we pay for these games? I want to know, they should follow Extra Credit's advice. Make games 40 bucks at launch and then charge 20 bucks for the DLC/Online codes, they'll get their money and we'll be happy to pay for that much since the game was so cheap.

I just hope it doesn't get much more worse from here, are they gonna rip out the real important things and make us pay 10 bucks to see cutscenes or some shit?

Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembered that. The 'From Ashes' dlc was announced ages ago - Bioware said they were developing dlc with an extra character. This was obviously planned during development of the main game. So I'm not surprised that there are some files relevant to the dlc on the disc for the main game. This isn't proof that game content has been locked out on the main disc. It's only proof that the dlc was planned alongside development of the main game. I will wait for someone to successfully access the 'From Ashes' dlc from the disc without an additional download before I throw my dummy put of the pram.

This isn't even Project $10. That was a way of making money from people who buy used games.
This is Project FuttBuckery.

... which is funny when Bioware then comes out and states that they only started work on From Ashes after Mass Effect 3 went gold.
HMM.

I have to wonder, what's next for Bioware? If gamers didn't feel compelled to buy this game due to it being part of a trilogy, it would have crashed immensely from the sheer amount of bad press.

Mass Effect ends on a sour note. Dragon Age is dropped off a cliff. The Old Republic.. probably not as bad but it's not the game most of us wanted. What's their next franchise? And how can they expect us to be on board when they have done so much shady, abusive things to us in all their other series?

This really looking to be the last hurrah from Bioware. From here on they'll just be like Maxis, what's left of them being exploited to such a disgusting degree that it puts Zynga to shame. As someone who once put Bioware as his favorite developer, this all really hurts to say.

I don't know what it will take for EA to start caring more about the customers than their shareholders, but so many good developers have already been driven through the mud over the last 15 years.

Which they probably did. Sure there was beginning concepts of it well before the DLC process began, that content was probably cut with shreds of it left in the game.

It could be the conspiracy everyone's making it out to be but content starting to be worked on can be cut mid-production and end up as DLC. I see no problem here unless the entirety of the character's arc is on the disk and locked like the speculators rage at.

I thought people already knew this?

The Prothean was in early builds of the leaked script, but they took him out and downplayed his role in the story immensely. I'm assuming they did it for DLC purposes.
Some of us did.
Then other people shouted us down when Bioware released their "you're all wrong, we totally made this after the game went gold" press release.
Yea, I thought this had been an issue for a while.
At least it seems like even the fanboys are getting fed up with this crap.
The question is will sales suffer enough to stop publishers from carving out game content as "bonus" stuff. I'm thinking probably no.
I'm curious as to how much they will get away with before they have to pull back. Endings being sold separately?
