Hello Fellow gamers. Now before I explain what this game is I thought I better explain my perspective on zombie games first. I haven't like resident evil since zero and I didn't enjoy Left for dead, Rising Dead, dead island or any other zombie game in the fast 5 years.

The reason for this is that I just don't feel threatened in the game. It's not really survival.

Day z is a free mod for a game called Arma 2(you need the expansion arrowhead as well)
You can buy this and the expansion for ?25 on steam.
http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/sub/4639

SURVIVAL:

Arma 2 a realistic army simulation game like operation flashpoint. The map is a 225km(squared)(I don't know how to do that little 2 lol)
map. you need to eat drink and stay warm to survive. if you get hit you start bleeding which needs bandages. there morphine for broken bones and pain killers for shock.
Also blood transfusions but you need another player to apply them.

Also the rain and wind can make your temperature drop and if it goes below 36c you can get sic and yes that sickness can spread to other players. cure with antibiotics.

I hear you say so what its a zombie game with some added health features but here lies the difference its a zombie apocalypse alright but there is also 49 other players playing with you now when you see some one in that town up ahead that you need to find food in to stay alive do you (A) trust that person and ask for help do you (B) kill that person hoping he has food on him or (C) wait for him to leave and look your self.

See here is the interesting part you don't always know who to trust in this game there are players who will help but also players who would gladly kill you for your beans.

CONSEQUENCES:

so while your trying to survive zombies and look for loot you also have to be causes in your journey. As this is a true survival game there has to be consequence to your actions also.

For instance you kill a player in self defence that is fine but murder some on for there beans you get a murde rpoint and loose a small bit of humantiy loose to much and you become a bandit.
The draw back to bandits is when people put there cursor over you they can hear a hartbeat and so its much harder for anyone to trust you and most people will shoot you on sight.

Next is death now in this game if you die you die that's it you loose everything, there is no saving. Now it would be fair to say that yes you can disconnect and come back to that spot later so don't worry its not a playthrough all at once game but if you die you just losed those 3 hours or maybe even that rare gun you might of found.

TRANSPORT:

Transport is very rare in this game and nearly always not in tact you have to fix the vehicles you find it may need a new engine or fuel but you have to go find it and a toolbox to repair it.

So far I have seen cars, trucks, motorbikes, push bike and helicopters.

SAVING GEAR:

There is only two ways to save gear you might find and there not permanent.
one is the tent you can place gear inside a pitched tent(you can place this anywhere)
but this will only last for two days.

There is also vehicles the problem with these are they stay there but they don't disappear when you log out so if you don't hide it well someone could come along and steal it :D

PROBLEMS:

Now as this is a mod its not perfect in fact its still in alpha stage. So there are a few bugs.
But its well worth noting that the developer is very active and putting alot of effort into this and has also had talk with the dev team or Arma 2 to include this mod with Arma 3.
As this mod has now got 6 million players world wide.

CONCLUSION:

I have to say this is one of the funniest games I have ever played and it has kept me on my toes and every moment. Its just so frightening being chased by zombies(which sprint at you)
and maybe hunted by someone with a rifle. When you have some nice stuff that you know you could loose.

I hope to see you in the woods :)

Been playing for a few weeks now, and it's good fun. Community seems to be rotten though, a lot of idiots treating the game as a deathmatch.

I have clocked over 170 hours on this badass mod.

I hang around with a group of misfits (On weekends about 12 of us play, it's epic!) all we do is arse around and kill other players who come to Berezino (Hence the group name). Here is a montage my friend made.

Yeah, I can call myself a bit of a bandit, however it does add alot of tension for other players though which makes the game even better. I suppose giving everyone flashlights instead of guns at the start lets people be more friendly without the risk of getting backstabbed.

(Stay away from the Russians, they are not to be trusted!)

I'm personally not to bothered by there being bandits as it keeps me on my toes but I haven't been shot by one yet either so could be biased on that ;)

Nice video You in gmt time zone?
Yup, we have improved alot since that video was made aswell, we all have Ghillie suits, vehicles and silenced guns (Cept me I go for sniper + M16 M203) , makes it alot easier for the "sneaky sneaky" approach >:3

This mod is the best thing to come out for a long time, I hope it gets as recognised as Minecraft eventually.

EDIT: Oh and how is the bicycle as loud as a fucking truck?!

It's a great way to get around but come on....

People still care about the mod? I put in about a full 24 hours worth on it, but honestly zombies are overplayed. Regular old Arma is better.

Wait, Zombies are overplayed but modern warfare shooters aren't?! (Oh cmon you know it's true :3 )

I think the reason why people care about the mod is because it offers 2 things other games can rarely pull off, Immersion and actual consequence for the actions you take.

Not really any real consequences. You die, you can get your loot back *excluding things like NVG's* In about 20 minutes.

It was fun for a while, and that was before it was turned into a FFA by all the new players.

They did fix the FFA thing (Sort of) by giving everyone flashlights instead of makarovs when players spawn, giving players a chance to actually make friends in the starting areas and creating a less hostile environment, I had 2 people come up to me the other day seeking refuge since I had a gun and they didn't (I didn't shoot them, so you can't judge me XD)

And the consequence thing, if you lose something like a winchester, yeah thats no big deal but losing something like a silenced M4 or an AS 50 is annoying as hell. Also I meant consequences for things like actually choosing your equipment "Do I take the lee enfield or the MP5 SD?" things like the loudness of your weapons and ammo frequency play into that massively.

Oh and also consequences for where you place your tents/vehicles, there is nothing more annoying than losing a vehicle because some lucky player found where you hid it.

So yes there are alot of consequences for your actions.

Loving Day Z got 4 of us from work running around on it in the evenings, hilarious when shit goes wrong. All crouched behind a log watching a horde of zombies,

Dude 1: I just dropped my nade how do i pick it up?
Me: what do you mean you dropped your grenade, are you titting around in your back pack again?
Dude 1:no it just kinda fell out.
Dude 3: LEG I---- *boom*

The amount of rage and laughter that insued was amazing, we lost all the guns food and petrol we had collected all because 1 of my mates hit the wrong button. What a penis.

XD I nearly burst out laughing in my library because of that...

You should get Fraps and put that shit out there, I myself have had an "Accident" with my M203 grenade launcher, I didn't kill anyone but I accidentally shot a HE grenade in Elektro at night which caused Zombies to come from EVERYWHERE! We had to leg it back to the car, many lulz and "Oh dear Rookie...."(s) were had that day :3

Still waiting for the Steam sale so I can get ARMA 2 at a lower price.

Sorry guys, but I don't have any interest in the vanilla game, so...
That's the spirit Smash!

I did the same thing, the second I heard about the mod I was like "OMG OMG OMG OMG!"

I couldn't restrain myself and would have probably caved by now even if I did try and wait (Which I didn't)

Your preaching to the choir buddy. I ran with 5 other people, we had a 10 tent base. Me and a friend ran overwatch with a DMR and M107, if one of us died. Not only did we have replacement gear sitting at base, but a 20 minute detour to a place like Berizino, could net you military weapons before even getting back to camp.

I lost a 3 week character to being stupid, 12 mags of DMR the rifle itself, every tool that was in the game at the time and that big fuckoff backpack. (coyote?)

I had most everything I lost replaced within an hour, minus the ludicrous amount of ammo I decided to carry. I then walked back to camp, and had my ammo back.

Dieing has no consequences in the mod, only inconveniences.

. . .Unless of course your just one of those new guys spamming side chat with:

"Does anyone know where I am? I see trees."
"Oh a person, freindly!?"
*so and so has been killed*
