I honestly don't see why killing a child is worse then killing an adult...it just confuses me.
I think it's because a child is usually innocent, an adult may be a saint but you don't know that without giving them screentime.
A child is shorthand for "here is someone that has done nothing wrong in their life" add to which an adult can (theoretically) defend themselves frrom attact so it would take a truly depraved monster to murder one, kinda like punchuing a wheelchair bound pensioner.
Also a child has the potential to be something, an adult has (supposedly) had their chance at life and have att least had some time to live, a child has not.
Finally, it's just hard coded in to us, we feel the need to protect our young, to make sure our genes are passed on, and with us being a social animal we have developed empathy allowing us to identify with someone other than ourselves, so we get a subconcioss twinge of "what if that were my child?" running through our heads.

There's a few reasons, pick your favourite.

I come from the, "I don't give a shit school of thinking". Although I will have to agree with you. Let's hope the actual game is good.

Neither. Its setting the tone of the game - why everything now needs to be art (or be doomed to worthlessness) is beyond me.

Honestly, if you have a problem with it, you shouldn't be on a gaming site. Films, books and TV have been killing children for years, and it's not like that's all that happened in the trailer. The real focus was the man losing his family in about a minute, and there being nothing he could do to stop it.

If you want to say it's heavy-handed, then yeah, I can see where you're coming from with that, but too far? Grow a pair.

Umm how come Feast 2 got away with so much worse? Such bullshit a movie can do so much worse but a video game that is tastefully done can't.
feast 2?

Watch at your own risk. It is disturbing. Seriously disturbing. I am not kidding. If you can't handle the Dead Island trailer do not watch this.
lmao that was hilarious. I actually thought he'd get grabed in the air then mauled, but watching him land first made it funnier. I hope youtube or netflix on ps3 has the whole movie now, though I doubt anything will be funnier then that.

It is probably the best trailer I have seen. It was really well done. I would consider it a piece of art.

People say that "it's about the family" but that really doesn't get to me at all. If the parents died fighting for their child and left the girl alone, hiding somewhere to be forgotten and most likely eventually zombie food, then it might have gotten to me. Don't get me wrong, this was a well done trailer, but it just didn't get to me.

What're you talking about? That scene was bloody hilarious! I was depressed after the Dead Island trailer and this clip cheered me right up.

Notice that no child in the trailer actually dies.

I suspect that's part of the reason why it was put into reverse. You don't actually see the kid thrown out the window, nor hit the ground (nor the resulting flattened face from hitting the ground). The child doesn't even get bitten in the trailer.

It was well done. But it doesn't make me interested in the game.
I'm pretty sure eveything you just listed actually is in the trailer, just shown backwards.

The clincher for me in this trailer is the shot wherein the father reaches out to grab the little girl. That's where all of it comes together. Knowing how that decision will turn out (The girl bites the father, other zombies rush the room and kill the mother) You know they would probably have been alright if they just stayed in the room, but simultaneously, you know that there is no way in hell any father is going to sit in the hotel room when his daughter is being dismembered only a few feet away. It's torturous in that you may know the 'smart' decision to make, but in an actual zombie apocalypse, noone would make the 'smart' choice, and it would bring about our downfall.

If the game can mirror the human drama portrayed in this trailer, it could be the best zombie game ever made. Here's hoping.

I rather enjoyed it. It instilled the sense of fear and hopelessness that you want a zombie game. It said that no one is safe, that the shit has hit the fans, and that bad things are and WILL happen. Imagine if that were an adult. No one would care. They'd just say, "oh, Its just another Dead Rising or Left For Dead. Why doesnt somone do something original?" Now someone does, and everyone gets their panties in a bunch and cries up a storm.

So Dead Island, I applaud you. Claps for you, you have certainly opened my eyes to this game and make me wnat to look more into it.

You will have to watch the third one "Feast 3 happy ending" to top that. But watch it from the first. If you liked that you will really enjoy the entire series. But they need to be watched in order for the full effect.

The surprised me, not because of the child dying, but because it showed a zombie apocalypse as something heartbreaking and tragic, which is probably like it would be in real life. Almost all other zombie media just show it as just "slaugher, pillage and violence bonanza especially in games. Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead, Dead rising... None of them came even close to showing a zombie apocalypse as anything other than an excuse to go nuts on a bunch of enemies you can't sympathize with. Resident Evil is the only one that came close to trying... but didn't really pull it off.

Now let's see if the game actually follows the trailer instead of being just a random sequence without connection to the game like the 1st Dead Rising intro...
