Ah ha, okay I stand corrected. Everyone I talked to who was really into KoTOR made it sound like it was purely turn based, and so I never played it. I'll exclude KoTOR from the rant, then. Still, even at a decade old, I stand by my assertion that there's no excuse for turn based play. Deus Ex, which I mentioned, is 11 years old and it shows how role playing should be in video games. By obsolescence I think more along the lines of 1994, rather than 2000. A whole lot happened in those six years. By the time the Quake 3 and Unreal engines came about in 1999, it was definitely time to say bye-bye to turn based. For some reason, even with today's standards, they keep making these damn games. Not everything has to be about reflexes. It can be about stealth, plot choices, character interaction and yes, even about gaining new abilities, but a player should still ultimately have to face down a threat as it happens. Status magic is only as useless as you are unwilling to use it.

I don't enjoy anime.
