I got my mac for free at my school. Well, I say free, but there was a tiny, itty bitty sum to own it. I got the cash from a gift to purchase it so I could own it so, yeah, I own a Mac practically because it was given to me.

Nifty little thing, if you've modded it to hell software wise so it's basically Windows.

It's a lot less time effective, also it's the least cool of the various linux builds, so *pokes tongue out*

I wanted to use a mac (obviously this was before I bought an ipod and got screwed around by apple far beyond the point of me ever wanting to deal with them again). They do (or did at the time) basic functions far more effectively than windows (XP at the time, and late into XPs life cycle it was disgraceful for newer computers), the only reason I didn't was because I'm on a budget (Apple are well and truly on the bandwagon of 'let's all charge Australians tripple'). I'd imagine that the current cut down system is again faster than Windows Vista/7 for most things not gaming related.

*raises hand* Artist. And, no, I'm not starving 'cos I have freelance work already so poo on you! Artists can make plenty of money, just depends on the field.

My school's full of Macs too (unless you're in animation). It's pretty cool but I hate the brand. In fact, I hated Macs with a passion... 'til I got one >.>; Well, I still hate their marketing so I have a case that covers it all up! Nobody knows I have one unless they look at my screen. :D Also, running XP for games though I mainly stay in OSX. Might give 7 a try soon though...

Seriously, I hate the marketing. I kinda wanted to find the advertising guy and tell him to stop making us look like douchebags.

Oh, also again, extremely good customer service but not nearly as easy to hack and such. Gotta get all into Terminal D: Bleh... No overclocking either. Double bleh... Oh well. It's easy, that screen's saved my life countless times and I got it loads cheaper through my school (err... by that I mean the screen is insanely good for how much I paid).

I use it because I fly back and forth all the damn time, and so I like a machine that doesn't require me acting out a scene from bizzare tentacle anime porn just to get it running. Also, it runs WoW just fine, which is all I really play other than console games.

well having used a MAC for a little bit to edit video, they are really nice if your "artsy" other than that i didn't get much into it but it seemed like it was just another computer and it had its flaws like the endless pinwheel of doom! that forces you to turn the MAC off if the interrupt command fails, and it failed a lot when i tried it, about 60% of the time. and mind you this was on a brand new imac all in one, i don't really remember the other specs.

To be honest, I like mine because it boots faster, doesn't get viruses (and the extraordinarily few it can get are really pissy), isn't compatible with USB viruses (good for me, I use it as a quarantine) and I actually find that I use it more often for non-gaming related purposes than I do with my supercharged PC. That and it looks awesome at a fraction of the space.

That help?

EDIT: And besides, most people in this world just aren't tech-savvy. Macs are a while lot less hassle.

I thought i'd try a mac after using windows for years, partly to see what they're really like and partly because i heard they're good for musicians. I've had it for over a year, and i've been pretty happy with it so far. Yeah, you pay a larger price, but considering the cost of running anti-virus over the space of a few years means the price difference isn't as much as people would have you believe (kinda like how a 360 is cheaper than a PS3, but paying for LIVE after a few years would make the 360 more expensive). And garageband is great, decent music recording software can be pretty damn expensive, so to have a program like that included for free definitely justifies the price for me.

One thing i don't get is how some people complain that macs are too expensive, PCs can do it cheaper, etc. But do people really give a shit as to how much someone else spends on their computer? I mean, really? And what's wrong with a computer looking good? I'd like to see more companies make products that were a little more visually appealing.

:O That's... a great point! I'll use that as a comeback next time! :D

But I like Mac OS better than Windows! Why? Because at least it doesn't gum the f*ck up in 18 months!
Irony. I have a PC that I've had since Windows 95. 95 worked fine. 98 worked fine. 2000 worked fine. XP worked fine. Then I traded up. Vista worked fine. 7 works fine. My 360 works fine. My original Xbox works fine.
My sister has bought 5 iPods in 4 years.
Pfffffff probably because she dropped too many times. I had my iPod for about the same amount of time and it works fine. Your sister does do that well with iPods can't say the same for zunes probably.

I own a PC. I do however use a Mac occasionally.

I find they are generally more stable and far less vulnerable to viruses. They've got plenty of nice features and applications that look really good, and if you wanted to make music and stuff they look like they'd be great, but I never use them.

Personally, the Mac v PC war doesn't matter a damn to me. I prefer PC (or, more strictly, Windows OS) just because it's what I'm more familiar with, I don't really know Mac OS and sometimes struggle to sort stuff out.

Not for me. As I am a PC gamer and I have gotten Windows 7 Professional legally for free... And especially when I'm doing a course that requires the use of direct X 10...

In high school I was forced to use Mac's for my "Interactive Media" class. I got so fed up with them after a week I just started bringing in my laptop and using that.

Having been a enthusiast since I was a small child I am just used to the number of options Windows gives you. Mac is just over simplified. They have their market of being good for first time users, old people who want to e-mail etc. I understand that, I really do. It's just not very welcoming to someone who was born and raised on Windows 3.0.

What I don't get is the whole "Macs for video" bandwagon. Adobe CS studios are for both. Yes Macs come pre-loaded with iMovie and iEverything else, but that doesn't make them "better". It just means its ready out of the box. Has anyone even used Windows Movie Maker in Vista/7? Its actually quite good. No CS 4 but just as good as iMovie.

Also, for the love of christ can we get a mouse with two buttons?

Wait, does my opinion count if I don't use either?
But...how...do...you...what?
Get Ubuntu! You can even burn it to a disk and try it without any changes to your system. It's a lot more customizable than both Mac or PC and runs on pretty much anything; that being said, there are compatibility issues, but you can easily emulate software.

The reason Linux is advancing far more quickly than either of the big boys is because Linux is powered by tens of thousands of developers, while Mac and PC only have dozens.

I don't know, I just prefer Macs. I've always used Macs, my first computer was a Mac, and I just got used to them. I can see the benefit for PC's, but but to be honest I don't really see the point. I have a Mac, it does everything I need, why do I need to change it?

I've always preferred Windows. Also, is it just me that has never had a problem with Vista? I used a mac for a bit and the fever didnt catch. It didnt have that certain "je ne sais pas quois" for me.

I have nothing against Macs but every against those dumbfuck ads!

They piss me off!

Alot.
