As the title suggest I beat Dark Souls at soul lvl 1 and no I didn't spend more than 14 hours of my life doing so. I just wanted to post this to see everyone's hopes for its release tomorrow and heck even post about how they're feeling for Dark Souls 2 as they play it. I pre-ordered the PC version but decided to rent the console version for a few days.

Here are some pictures of my build and me being victorious if anyone is wondering and it's your own option to check it out. I'm quite excited for tomorrow!

My shameful secret is that I've never beaten Dark Souls. The closest I ever got was a ridiculously slow strength build who just couldn't move fast enough. I've restarted a dozen other characters but I just seem to loose interest either during or right after finishing Anor Londo. I've gotten better certainly and should be able to take down the final boss, but I just loose interest long before the end game. It blows my mind that you crazy bastards are able to do it at level one.

I've never done a SL1 run. I have a SL30 character I use for various invasions which I went through the game with. I'm stuck on Artorias though. The battle just takes too long and I end up making a few mistakes that cost me dearly (which is one of the reasons why I haven't done a SL1 run because I imagine that would happen a lot).

As for stories I had an interesting invasion a couple of weeks ago. I invaded as a forest hunter and came across the host and another forest hunter just mucking around. We got our fists out, got naked and did a bit of brawling. Then my fellow phantom and I followed the host down to the basin and watched him kill the Hydra. It was actually kind of impressive because he ran past all the crystal golems and had to deal with them as he was fighting the Hydra. When he was done I waved goodbye and jumped into the lake.

The very first time I was invaded was very memorable to me.

Painted World of Arimais, got invaded by a guy with DLC spells.

Kept trying to Dark Combustion me, but I made him run out, so he started meleeing me.

In my panic, I spammed the parry key and managed to get him.

I put some distance between us and committed the cardinal sin of healing.

He stopped and immediately used Pursuers. I died horribly.

Fun times.

Shit, why can't I get invaded by players like you? I usually get some over geared ass hat who easily circles around and back stabs me.

Man my slvl 1 NG+7 playthrough and Platinuming of the game was sooooo long ago. So nothing special for my final playthrough two days ago. I just went through the game in full elite knight armor, with a basic quality 40/40 strength dex build. My starting gift was the pendent to symbolize the memories I've had with the game:

-Winning my very fist gank spank with some players in Anor.
-Fighting just about every big twitch pvper.
-Dying to Manus with only 1 hit away... and then my internet got DC immediately after... my jolly co-op friend was screaming...
-My fight against modders, 7 killed.
-1v1ing Artorias with dual wield ceastuses.
-And every dark bead spamming noob not knowing the power of a Havel Shield build.

So with that, I had my final fight with Gwyn.
Placed the pendent right where he fell, then went ahead to link the fire and cast away the dark...
...
Until Dark Souls 2 comes around and ruins the whole linking the fire plan!
Good Job Frampt... shoulda listened to Kaathe you filthy casual.

See you all in Drangleic! Umbasa and Praise the Sun.

To be fair I'm pretty bad at PVP so I don't take it very seriously. And if someone is clearly just mucking around and having a but of fun I'll join in.

Or you could play against my brother who instead of kindly saying hello before fighting it out and just attack you or kick you off a cliff... I hate those people.

PVP will hopefully be toned out. I really disliked some of the blatantly cheap times I would get wrecked by my opponent.
Let's all hope a boss like Chaos Bed or the Dragon God show up again because I don't think anyone likes those battles.

There are reasons I play off-line. I just don't think the blood stains and messages are worth getting ganked every few minutes. I'm just not a fan of multiplayer games.

Captcha: little did he know... Jesus captcha's getting creepy.

You beat the game in 14 hours at level one? Hell, I'm 14 hours in, and I'm barely past Blighttown. Granted, it's my first playthrough, but how'd you breeze through the game so fast?

Once you know the routes to take and the attack patterns of the mobs/bosses you can go through the game really quick. On my first playthrough it took me just under 30 hours but I did New Game Plus in under 5 and then my second playthrough with a new character took about 8 (could have been less but I farmed shards for my primary/secondary weapons).

It's all knowledge and practice, with a smidge of patience.

I got invaded by a guy who disguised himself as a barrel. That's all: no attacks, and when I whacked him he didn't defend himself. I was curious as to how long he would keep it up, just following me around: I continued the game as far as I could, clearing the entire locked in area, then just ran around in circles, followed by this stupid barrel.

I had to leave after about an hour, and the invader had still done nothing except follow me around. As a barrel.

Some people are... strange.

Basically that's all true. I've played the game somewhere in the double digits and have done a total of 150 hours via steam and about 140 on xbox (before I made my gaming pc). It's mainly due to memorization and the fact that you can skip huge portions of the game if you know what you're doing.

I've already scheduled my time for tomorrow!

If you know what you're doing. You don't need to go to blight town. However since it's your first playthrough, explore to your hearts content. That's some of the best quality in Dark Souls.

How's it possible to beat the game without going to Blight Town? I mean, I know you can skip a big portion of it if you have the Master Key as your starting gift, but it seems like it would be impossible to completely skip it since the second bell of awakening is in there.

Probably the most fun I've had was a while where I was a low level RTSR Int build with Crystal magic and Chameleon and invaded just before the Four Kings. I'd use whatever spell it is to let you not take fall damage (because the host can see it), rolled down to the little bridge just before the actual fight, turned into a pot and went into a corner until I saw the host and/or a phantom, then kaboom, soul spear. One time I killed the phantom and redisguised, but the host ran back to the beginning and summoned more phantoms. I must have gone through about 6 before the host finally went down there with one, but I pre-empted it and moved to the other wall, so they were smashing all the pots where I was when I killed them. Ironically, half the time the people I killed actually messaged me afterwards to ask if I would assist them, and I did. Made short work of the Kings. Not a single piece of hate mail.

Why, is there an alternate way to reach Quelaag?

One of my favourite experiences happened quite recently with my INT sorceror/enchanted longsword build. I was helping people with Ornstein and Smough and put my summon sign down near the bonfire where Solaire sits. Got summoned by a swordsman and he hadn't even gone through the level yet. So we were running through, fighting the silver knights, and having a jolly old time.

When we killed the final two spear knights, we got invaded by a red phantom who seemed rather surprised to see two of us. What followed was a crazy intense fight, he had a fire katana so I was rolling around like mad. The host retreated to heal and while he did I managed to kill the phantom by switching my shield to pyromancy and combustioning him. It was hectic and bloody awesome.

We then proceeded to stomp O&S into the ground because we were that boss :D
