I've played both Dark Souls and Demons Souls, and while I really, really want to like them, I can't get into it. I enjoy the gameplay and I like the challenge, but the story-telling leaves a lot to be desired. It's simply too guideless. It's the same problem I have with sandbox games. If you put me somewhere and say "have fun", I fiddle with it for ten minutes and walk off because I can't invest myself in it. I need to have a goal, something to work towards, and both of the Souls games simply handle conveying that to the user very well.

They are making a sequel to this garbage?

Why is it called Dark Souls II, I thought this was the third part of the tale of nonsense?

Im taking a wait and see approach. If the new directors get what dark souls is all about and make a sequel with the same kind of feel then yeah Ill purchase the game in a second. However their talk about accessibility and difficulty but not the deep and piece it together lore that dark souls had has me very concerned that they don't get what made dark souls an artistic masterpiece

So Im taking the wait and see approach. It could be everything I want it to be, or it could be another case of publishers forgetting their core fan base and taking a loss on a game because they tried appealing to a new audience without keeping the old one

You need to include a fourth option in that poll. I never played Demons' Souls, and Dark Souls frustrated me too much to say I genuinely liked it, but I know for sure I'll be buying this.

"Another thing at the core of a Souls game is subtle, implicit clues. Dark Souls tells its story through item locations, it tells you where to go by prompting your intuition, and your attention to detail can help you navigate the game world."
Translation: "You want context? Screw you, player, make that shit up yourself! Here's another load of implicit clues that build the world and lore while making sure absolutely none of it directly relates to what you, the character, are doing. Just try to get immersed, you schmuck!"

I'm really, really hoping I'm wrong, but the fact that Dark Souls got so caught up in the macro-world while leaving me next to nothing, aiming for "subtle" but missing the mark and hitting "irrelevant," was one of my two major complaints. I know for a fact that a story can encompass world-building like that while also giving relatable context (because I loved Soulbringer), so I still hold out some hope.

I do like a lot of what I'm hearing, but something from that first vid had me worried. He almost makes it sound like enemies lock on to you and can magically pivot to hit you even if you roll, and that sounds like pure bullshit.
EDIT: the more I think about it the more I don't like the nerf to backstabs. The only reason I could sorta tolerate trudging back to a boss for the 40th time in Dark Souls was because the minions on the way could be dealt with fairly efficiently. Forcing me to have a drawn out face to face duel with every single hollow between the bonfire and the boss is gonna make me run out of patience really quick.

I'll buy it . On day one . Like i did Dark souls . But if they made the game easier in any way , form or fashion , it will be my last . However , the last two games were fantastic , therefor , i want to support the developpers as much as i can . So basically , they have my attention , what will they do with it ? Will they continue to give me,a guy who has bought both their games new off the shelves , more of what i want/like , or ditch me and try and fill their boat with as many as possible ?

While both options are reasonable ,and accessibility is not a bad thing , the reasons why i liked the game in the first place may be lost with option 2.

Probably not. Frustrating difficulty has never really been my thing. I've seen let's plays of the two predecessors and neither of them looked like my cup of tea.

I'm sure I'll play it, but the difficulty will stop me from paying full price for it.

Also, it's coming out in a horrible time. March 2014, are they serious? Both the PS4 and Xbone will have been out for three months. And neither system can play the past gen games.

If devs will leave the same difficulty as in previous parts, but will add a pause function, then I'll probably try it... Eventually... When the price drops...

Day one. I'm very cynical about the number 3 of any franchise, but to be honest, the announcement of this game made me as excited as a kid. I didn't even know I still had it in me.

Bonus Question: If you are a fan of the Souls series, what are your favorite weapons from Dark Souls? I find myself using the Balder Side Sword, Great Scythe, Estoc, and Silver Knight Straight Sword a lot.
Black Knight Greataxe! And Washing Pole for when I'm feeling adventurous.

Even thought I really should wait to see if the game is good, I am very hype for this one.
Lets be honest here, the new Dark Souls maybe isn't the masterpiece we all think.

I picked up dark souls for £8.99 and would have been seriously disappointed if Id paid full price for this deeply flawed game.

I simply dont get the hype. Combat was broken, multiplayer is crippled by lag with teleporting wraiths and hits landing from no where near you and some of the traps are just cheap. I also think the "story" gets too much credit. Granted the world is fleshed out if you read all of the fluff but its a case of: congratulations, you have no real back story, motivations, interests or goals. Now go ring these bells, Im sure theres a good reason to... Does that really pass for story telling? So I may pick it up eventually if its under a tenner...

Hell yeah I am. Demon's souls was alright, but Dark Souls is amazing, and I can't wait to play the next one. See the improvements, enjoy the new challenges, and mess around with all the new stuff.

Favorite Weapons: Longsword. Any Artorias Sword. Moonlight Greatsword. Darkhand. The Pyro's starting handaxe.

Runners up: The sickle sword, Quelaag's furysword and chaos blade, claymore and dragonbone fist.

I am a bit worried about the combat. While it's paced faster and smoother then dark souls it seems, I have this odd feeling it's more Demon's soulsish. Which I feel is a negative as Dark had better combat in my opinion. Just less polish. ]:

I played a lot of Dark Souls. Can't say I ever really enjoyed it. It was quite a feat of endurance, but I persisted with it, mainly because of how everyone else said it was awesome. I probably won't get the sequel until it's massively discounted.

Absolutely.

Dark Souls was my favorite game of this generation. I haven't seen any of the preview footage, and some of the things I've been hearing are a bit worrying... I don't really mind if they streamline it to draw in new players, that's actually a good thing. As long as the spirit of the game and gameplay is intact then I'm excited.

We'll see when it comes out.

I'll get it day one, even though I don't have a working TV lol

My favorite weapons in Demon's were a Moon Kilij and Moonlight Sword. In Dark it was Great Scythe and Balder Side Sword.
