There was a special review in a PC mag. Which was better? : Quake 3 arena or Unreal tournament.
Both Demos where on the CD and I spent hours playing Unreal. I did eventually buy both but UT got the most love.

the map DM-Morphious was really cool. Fighting upon skyscrapers that went beyond the clouds giving low-grav. Good views, funky music, the redeemer nuke and knocking people off the edge with the shockrifle. Aahhhh happy days :)
*loads UT3 and plays a remake of the map*

Batman: AA or Just Cause 2.
Luckily, both games were awesome. AA a tad more than JC2.

It's either Just Cause 2 or Red Faction: Guerilla.

Sadly, both demos were actually much, much better than the actual games.
Add Brutal Legend to that.

Lying bastard of a demo promised me an awesome set-piece based hack'n'slash and I got a crap RTS.

I quite enjoyed Red Faction though, destroying things was good fun.
Oh god, yes!

That demo got me pumped like nobody's business, and then it goes and disappoints me with the RTS stuff.
At least the soundtrack was great... I spent more time driving around listening to tunes than I did playing the actual game :)

Mirror's Edge. I like how its demo was really the only part of the game that was good. Saved me a bunch of money.

*looks at stack of games containing Mirror's Edge* Oh, right. Shit.

But the Reach beta kicked ass. And I'll like that game when it comes out, so I don't think it counts.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, so much choices to kill all the orcs in the demo. Hell that was fun in the demo.

The Force Unleashed demo made me think it was going to be one of the best games of the year. Too bad it wasn't.

It's been a long time since I played a demo, but the one that sticks in my memory for me is Space Empires 3. Man, that game was epic. I've since bought SE4 and SE5. SE4 is the best.

Easily Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

Played through that 1st level so many times, glorying in the sneakiness & gadgetry...

AND THEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT CLOSE-QUARTERS MELEE ATTACKS.

Played through it 4 more times purely because of that.

Original Starcraft, such a big improvement from Warcraft 2. The demo only had 4 missions but they were so fun, I played through them heaps before the full game was released.

Company of Heroes hands down. I randomly downloaded the demo without knowing what the game was and ended up playing it until the early hours of the morning. I can't believe they gave me a skirmish map to play on again and again.

Battlefield 1942 when I played with my friend. It was so much fun and we ended up killing each other in some crazy ways and had insane dog fights, but then I got the actual game and it was meh.

Left 4 Dead 2 multiplayer demo, Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway demo, Split/Second demo, Just Cause 2 demo, and of course, the Crackdown demo.
