What depressing moments have you experienced in games? Be it character death, back story, narrative or an event which occurred.

One moment that always stuck with me is in Terranigma on the SNES. Quite far into the game, you
lose the ability to talk to animals

I don't know if it was meant to be depressing, but I found it so. I can't really explain it that well, but if you've played the game, you might know what I'm on about.

Hearing about a new game that sounds good and you get ready to try it and then finding out that its a subscription of like 10 a month and realising its more than you want to pay i find that quite depressing its like someone says you can buy a cake for 5 pounds and then 10 pound a slice.

Killing Mildred and George in Banjo Tooie.

I mean seriously, they're two married ice cubes that just wanna see eachother, one of whom you destroy to get a Jinjo inside, the other you push into boiling hot water and melt.

I can't believe nobody mentioned FFVII yet. A moment I remember as depressing must be the 'microwave scene' from MGS4.

Isn't this thread a bit similar to the "emotional moments" one? Also, oh my God people, spoiler tags.

OT, "depressing" is a heavy word. I did find Demon's Souls's atmosphere extremely bleak and the lack of music outside of bossfights intensified that feeling. The whole package just screamed "I want you dead and I mean business" and that made every encounter feel much more epic.

And, of course, as I posted in the other thread, Homeworld. It's hard to command a fleet with tears in your eyes.

Probably the most depressing moment I can remember in a videogame is from Phantasy Star... two, I think, when
your character and party watch from space as thier homeworld and everything on it is destroyed
by the "Ultimate Evil".

The section of Chrono Trigger where
Crono dies and Marle gets all freaked out about it for a while until you get him back
was fairly emotional as well.

The first playthrough on ME2. I made sure my party was loyal but I didn't get very many upgrades. I lost 7 people, including Garrus and Tali. :(

i think tf2 is always very emotional, seeing the struggle of your teammates, and to see them dieing without you being able to help.

Kane And Lynch. No matter which ending you choose, Kane loses. It's sad because Kane just tries so hard to save his family from being killed from his old friends.

He either leaves Lynch behind that ends with Lynch and Kane's daughter hating Kane or he ends up killing Kane's daughter after a mercenary comes from nowhere and Lynch ends up shot as they ride into the sea on a small boat, seemingly into the middle of nowehere.

Second most depressing moment would probably be...Well...Otacon in two games in a row. How Sniper Wolf died and how his sister dies.
