Burn Girl Prom Queen by Mogwai.

Saddest instrumental, don't care what you have to say.

This "music" (If it can even be called that) is not only sad, but it's also shit-your-pants terrifying.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Seriously. Don't complain to me if you get freaked out.
Ready?
Ok...

Eh sorry i should have been more clear. I just couldnt be arsed to find Black Metal links.

I know At The Gates is Death Metal, although quite unconventional in its early days.

Props on Opeth, although i think that from Blackwater Park it isnt all that depressing.
S'all right I'm only kidding. I'm not that much of a genre schtikler but I'm not overly fond of most Black Metal and At the Gates had always been pretty experimental and hard to define. As for Opeth, depends how you look at it. Lyrically I'd say Still Life going backwards were their most despondant and poetic while the ambience of the music from Blackwater Park onward still elicited a downtrodden reaction. I don't know what kind of shit Akerfeldt thinks he's pulling with Heritage though 0_0 heard a couple of sample tracks and it's got me kinda worried.

I always thought that 'Piano Man' by Billy Joel was quite a sad song.
You hit the nail on it's head

Also, this one is pretty much unknown:
It gives me an incredible melanchonic and nostalgic feeling

edit:Mad World, how could I have forgot.

Frankie Teardrop by Suicide. I love Suicide but Frankie depresses the hell out of me. Great slow burn song, but I'd rather listen to Dream Baby Dream or Ghost Rider.
You can't have a depressing song thread without Gloomy Sunday (Hungarian Suicide Song), Frankie Teardrop and Cohen's Dress Rehearsal Rag.

As a general tip, an easy way to figure out markup templates is to hit the quote button next to the post of somebody who did what you're trying to do and identify the bit you need. Be sure to delete the rest of the text though, no use quoting people in your post unnecessarily.

Otherwise if you want to read up on a comprehensive list of what is available I believe there's a guide on it somewhere around here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/markup_help.php]

Happy trails!

Edit: Added the link.

This always gets me close to tearing up every time. It may be part of a video games' soundtrack, but fuck you this is music.
