6 Hours to go.

Dear god, I don't think I'm going to make it...

is the original still worth playing?
It's so fucking old but good GOD is it good. If you do decide to play it, stick with it even if you hate the first hour or so. I swear to you that it becomes so engrossing you won't stop playing... ever... seriously... for years. You'll think you're done with it... and then you play it again.

Good, maybe that means the next Thief game being made by the developers wont completely suck. That said I don't really hold high hopes for any game named 'Thi4f'.

Deus Ex hasn't aged terribly well in my opinion. The gameplay is fantastic, so I still play it - and still love it - however its hard to honestly recommend it to someone who hasn't already played it, at least a little. The visuals alone are pretty off-putting for someone new to the game, let alone the terrible A.I. and other quirks we've all come to appreciate after numerous sessions with the game.
In any event, it should be noted that Deus Ex still remains the best game ever made, and any one who considers themselves a 'real gamer' needs at least one play-through under their belt to be taken seriously. It's really hard to emphasise just how incredible that game was, and still is.

From all accounts, Deus Ex: Human Revolution looks to be _this_ close to the original, with only a few items holding it back - most notably the god-awful Boss Fights.

As for Thief 4, or Thi4f (seriously?), I suspect it will go the way of most stealth games, and add a heavier action component. I'm replaying Thief 2, and frankly I couldn't see a modern publisher pushing that kind of title out of the gates, when Call of Duty is the number one title on the planet. I'm getting ready to be incredibly disappointed.

Jim Sterling gave it a 9.5. I think that should relieve some doubts about the game.

The PC version has a metascore of 88 so far out of 19 reviews, with no doubt more to come. Seems to be doing pretty well so far, hoping to pick it up at the end of the week.

100's and high 90's are handed out far to often. Praise comes easy from publishers afraid of what might happen with developers, and with a title like Deus Ex, Nostalgia glasses are a given. I love Deus Ex, I'm excited to play it and give it a shot because I was disappointed by the last DE game...plus it's my kind of RPG...

...but...

...I'll wait for Yhatzee.
The same Yahtzee that even rips games apart that he likes? Though, I am definitely looking forward to his review of the by now over hyped game. We might even hear the main theme with him singing again. In the meantime, mine should be showing up in about 7 hours via post. Now, I'm going back to bed...

I just want to know if it has:

- EMP grenades
- Usable (not just shootable) fire extinguishers (or a pepper spray gun again)
- Gas grenades

Surely they weren't so mean as to take out some of the best parts of Deus Ex.
It has the grenades. Saw em in several LPs of the leaked beta on Youtube. Not sure about the "usable" fire extinguishers. You can pick em up and throw them though...and, naturally, shoot em.

Triple A title getting perfect scores from sites that depend on them for advertisement money? Man, you see new things every day.

I just wish this was one of them.

In other news: Quality of a game is subjective. Try it out, make up your own opinion.

Simply stated games with that much hype always get good reviews. I mean look at Dragon Age 2, it KILLED on the reviews and a lot of people thought it was shit.

Personally for triple As I just wait a month or two for it to simmer down. That way you don't get the purchased reviews or the fanbois and herebois (because the opposite of a fanatic is a heretic) buggering up the reviews. That or I wait until a source I trust critiques it.

I know what you mean; I wasn't very impressed with the gameplay footage I've seen so far, but right now I'm regretting not buying the super awesome edition.

I'll still wait until it goes on special, but it'll be a tougher wait than most.

Do yourself a favour, stick with the prod.

Also, I am buying two copies of this and neither is for me because my computer can't run it. Sadface.

You'll wait for a man who's job is much more entertainment than actual reviewing? Well, have fun with that opinion.

Considering the fact that Brink was broken to the point of being unplayable, DNF was the worst game I've played this year and Red Faction: Armageddon was terribly mediocre, I say that it's about fucking time that 2011 gets more awesome releases like Portal 2 and Dead Space 2.

Got it pre-loaded. Can't play until Friday because it takes 3 days to ship digital copies from the US to the UK.
Don't remind me, it's driving me crazy. I might have to stay off the internet for a while to avoid spoilers, god forbid.

On topic, I'm glad it's getting good reviews, I would refuse to accept anything else as it was always going to be a game I would buy.
