I may as well copypasta this from another site I've written this for:
I've only played this game for a couple of hours, and to be frank, I'm quite pleased with the game so far. Combat and controls are responsive, each augmentation has a significant (except maybe the social ones, but I've yet to see them in play) and hacking is a little fun, but not as life-threatening as that of EYE: Divine Cybermancy (and in that game, even doors can kill you if you suck at hacking). Despite me not having a social life, the social parts are quite interesting, as Jensen has quite a bit to say when you choose something. Pick the right option(s) and people will spill their guts. Mess up and people close up, shoot hostages, etc. And social boss fights are possible.
Stealth is tough but rewarding, and the knockout/assassination animations are awesome and funny, with the funny parts being subjective if you appreciate dark humor. Sneaking around Metal Gear style is apparent in this game, as you must avoid the gazes of security cameras and moving incapacitated bodies away from the sight of cameras and other patrols, lest they sound an alarm. I was kinda hoping I could get Jensen to use a box as a stealth tactic, but I was sad that wasn't implemented. Can't forget about tranquilizing enemies to ensure a pacifist run if you wish to do that. Enemies can wake up their incapacitated comrades, so either tranq anyone looking at the body(ies) or move it.
Speaking of enemies, the AI isn't very stupid (nor psychic, unless they have augs that can allow them to see through walls and cover (you can have this one too). They use cover, shoot and flank intelligently, and are capable of using tactics such as the pincer (and maybe some others I have no clue about). Rushing in Call of Duty style is possible, as regenerating health is automatically included (but unlike other FPS games, the augs justify the regen), but will get you killed quickly. Doesn't mean it isn't possible if you're good at shooting and are aware of your surroundings.
My gripes about this game are:
1. Earning augs. Gotta earn XP, gain enough of that, and XP converts into token-esque items called Praxis Points, which are used for augs. These take quite a while to earn, and while the game rewards exploration and combat alike, XP feels like it's being earned at a snail's pace. Then again, I've only played about two hours, so it's not like I'm gonna be an ultra badass anytime in the beginning.
2. Mouse sensitivity. To me, it feels a little jerky, and it's very apparent in combat. That does not mean I'm having a hard time shooting, as long as the range isn't long.
From what I've played, this game does in fact, live up to and to many extents, exceed the original. This is the Deus Ex we have been waiting for. I may be saying that too soon, but that's how I feel. And I'm losing my writing abilities, so this impression of the game kinda sucks. Maybe there's an aug for that. And in my opinion, the critical reviews hype this game up a little too much.
