There are a lot of threads on this game... and heres another one.

Let me clarrifie the title. While playing Deus Ex something happened that particulary ticked me off.

I played the game with total stealth in mind. My motto was "If i'm shooting, I've failed somewhere." With this in mind I checked EVERY corner and noted the positions of EVERY guard. I never got ambushed.

Then I opened a door and a cutscene happened. My character walts into the center of the room, gets seen by everyone and then gets king hit from behind by a large meathead. Then a forced boss battle happened. I had to defeat him with a empty tranquiliser gun and a crossbow.

Did anyone else get a little annoyed at this? It almost ruined the game for me.

yeah, the forced boss battle was something straight out of Yahtzee's "don't do this in a game" list, though it didn't annoy me that much because let's face it, you can't always be the one who gets the drop on the enemy. Still, I don't think the Jenson I was playing would have just walked nonchalantly into a room filled with what he thought were two elite mercs...

But, to say it almost ruined the game for you...someone's a bit touchy.

Nope. They have said for months now that this was how it would be, so I wasn't annoyed at all.

They also leave enough things around to kill the bosses regardless of what you have on you at the time.
So I'm expected to drop my tranquilisers and pick up a heavy machine gun of which I have never used before?

Which is another reason why that kind of cheap plot gadget makes even less sense in a video game.

While I might be slightly peeved at such inconsistencies in a film, and blame the writer and scripter for being bad at his/her jobs, in a video game it's evidence of poor quality assurance. Perhaps no one actually played through that section with a stealthy character during development/testing.

Yeah, I confess, that was probably too much. Still I died more times in that battle than I have in the entire game. I'm up to the third boss by the way. It happens two more times.

By the way, the stealth IS brilliant. Get the game, it's good. I'm just peeved at them for taking my stealth away.

I'm glad they included the boss fights, though I agree i have no idea why cutscene Jensen is such a failure.

The forced combat is mandatory to balance how overpowered stealth is in my opinion. You want the benefit of ghosting easily past everyone then you acknowledge taking inferior combat capabilities.

Stealth is always helpful, it was only fair to those who chose combat to get some scenarios catered to them as well.

Besides it was an interesting change of pace and the intensity of the win far outweighed the frustration of getting there.

one thing really annoyed about this boss, the first time around... (in which i was not stealthy)
larger robot arms =/= stronger robot arms,
his portrayal as a tough guy makes no sense.

hes taller, which makes absolutely no difference except perhaps, clutching at straws, it explains why you cant melee him and he can melee you because of reach...
his size is meaningless because he is entirely machinery aside from his head.
...id also point out that hes wearing less armour than you so his health makes no sense either, but all the bosses have pretty much the same health so i dropped that.

ive only just gotten to him on my stealth character, heaving gotten Ghost on everything so far, and it makes absolutely no sense that im thrust into a silly boss fight, again locked away from my trusty portable turret, with nigh more than a stun gun.
i thought deus ex was entirely based on the principle that you could complete a task in a number of ways... you cant use hacking against him, as you cant bring your turret in with you and its locked outside... you cant use stealth or exploration to avoid the fight, no. the only thing that works its lethal weaponry, which i do not stock because i am stealth and can not stock because tranquilizer rifle is huge... even if i could, i dont have any ammo because i cant loot the non-corpses.

thats the developer's fault,
not mine, not jensen's.

Oh, how I miss the days when I could beat the boss battles by finding out their kill phrase. and making the most anticlimactic boss battles ever. "I'm going to kill you so hard..." "potato skins are my best friend ever" "You will not be ab- wait what?" *KaBooom* Boss battle completed!

Nope, you could just toss the exploding barrels at him. Or use the mines, grenades, ect...
Trust me, I did.

Yes they have some very bad design choices, on the whole it seems like they set out to improve DE1 and ended up overshooting.

Despite playing the game stealthily, I enjoyed the boss battles.

They made for a welcome change of pace.

EMP grenades make the battles completely trivial, but I do agree that forcing you to fight them is rather annoying.
