How many are keeping to the 'no kill' play through?

I gave up after maybe 6 hours... I'll try again after I beat the game! It was just getting frustrating reloading after I messed up my stealth.

Great game. But I have one problem...

Q: Can anyone tell me where to find a merchant in China? I just beat the first boss and am in the new locale, and I can't find one.

A: 'He's in the first room on your left when you enter The Hung Hua Hotel/Brothel in Lower Hengsha.' Thanks Sober!

Also: There is nothing quite like having to bribe scum for info, then killing them and taking your money back!!

For discussion value: How many are keeping to the 'no kill' play through? I had gave up after maybe 6 hours... I'll try again after I beat the game!
still working my way through the first part of the game, so i can't help on finding a merchant.

that said, i gave up on the stealth part after i entered the warehouse with the patrolling guards. it just seems to me that no matter how careful you are, enemies are very, very good a noticing you if you come out of cover even just a bit too early.

i got aggravated with that and decided to just start gunning everyone down. which was satisfying in some ways (i was able to progress a bit more rapidly), but disappointing in others (read: enemies will empty clip after clip into a wall you are hiding behind leaving themselves wide open for return fire).

Baring the tutorial/intro mission.

About 15 minutes, and only that long because I explored around Sarif a bit and broke open a bunch of cardboard boxes to see if anything was inside. That very first dude around the corner got a augmented arm sword/knife in his gut. I'm playing a bit of a ruthless corporate clean up agent on my first play through.

I'm pretty sure you won't get the achievement if ya kill in the intro! It's tough, but possible.

Why do you reload if you mess up in stealth? Is it because the combat is too difficult for a stealth-based player? Or is it because you want to do it without messing up?

If the latter: I think it would do the game more justice to live with the consequences for screw ups. I'm gonna try a no-kill playthrough on my first go, but I'm not gonna undo every one of my mistakes with a convenient reload.

You can kill the bosses and still get the achievement.

And I'm still not killing people. Because I'm Sam M#$$#%@^&^ Fisher, and I'm that badass.

I killed a few guys in the Intro, its a pain in the ass not having the radar to help with the sneaky. Then I completed the warehouse without killing anyone and went "damn." So I started over. I'm wicked OCD about stuff like that so I'll finish the no-kill playthrough.

I guess one pointer if your having troubles with it is to remember you do have your tranq rifle and stun gun. Use them judiciously since you don't have heaps of ammo, but if you come across "that guy" who is just in the way and you need him gone.... don't fret about putting a dart in his neck =). Also speaking from the old one your augs are crucial. There are a few places in the original Deus Ex that would be extremely difficult, if not impossible to sneak by without the cloak. As cheesy as it is sometimes putting on your invisibility and sprinting through the pile of guards is your only bet. And of course the more you can utilize alternate routes the better off you are.

I've decided I'll do my pacifist playthrough at a later date. IMO if you forego the use of all lethal weapons in the game, you're missing out on a lot of fun options.

The game seems to have multiple paths and endings anyways, so replaying it will likely be interesting.

For my playthrough I'm taking things very pragmatically. If I think (as in the first mission) the people involved likely don't deserve to be killed, I'll try to do things non-lethal. If I think the world would be better without them, they get the bullet (or elbow sword).

Kills before you get Augmented don't count, neither do bosses. Everyone else does, though. I think. I'm not sure if the 'zombies' count.

Combat is easy for anyone, provided that you get a few upgrades. (My main non-boss gun for the entire game excluding the non-lethal weapons was the 10mm pistol with a ton of mods. Just give it a silencer, laser sight, and the armor piercing rounds that you find in your apartment's secret stash. It was possible to clean out a room filled with about 8 enemies with that gun, and my character was a hacker with no combat augs.)

They do their best to make you regret it near the end though.

I'm trying but I'm not sure it includes the guys at the start I couldn't see any other way to get rid of them except toxic gas.

you could just go around them... you can actually sneak past everyone in the game, save the boss fights, if you're good enough...<.<

So far I haven't killed a single person. :) Non-lethal takedowns, and weapons are still ridiculously efficient if you apply them correctly. Stun gun rocks.

I'm simply playing as I feel. Most people I'm not killing simply because it's not necessary
but when those bastards ambushed me and that hacker in the Court Gardens I happily gave a 'fuck you' right back to them.

Non lethal is worth more EXP so I tend to do that unless I feel Jensen would murder people as a matter of course (soldiers working for the CONSPIRATORS, the human traffickers in China). Towards the end of the game I was knocking people out then shooting them in the head with a silenced weapon, execution style, as payback for what they did.
