Ok I've heard about this but can someone please explain, is it a funny spoof of My little pony (Or something like that)? Or is it just that show about cute ponys that my sister used to watch about 12 years ago that is aimed at a female audience?
Is it an ironic thing? I really don't understand
We've got shit-tons of threads concerning that scepticism. Search around Off-Topic for a while, and you'll find at least one filled to the brim with reasons for liking this show.

While this is disappointing, she's still on the project, and certainly she isn't entirely responsible for the show's quality. As long as the execs don't force any bullshit on the writers and animators, the show shouldn't really get any worse.
But is it just the kids show or is it some re-worked parody version? I haven't seen it
It's "just the kids show" but it's been stated by Lauren Faust that it was designed to be enjoyed by older people, such as their parents. And it is.

I'm 20 and a business major. I think it's brilliant. My brother is 17 and he likes it.

Title is slightly miss-leading... it's not devastating news, but it's not great news either.

Isn't it slightly feminine?

So was the power puff girls but don't tell me you didn't watch it as a kid.

I can't believe how many people here appear to actually watch the show, as in for reals and not just for the lulz.

Wasn't MLP just a meme? Just what is it about that show that is even remotely interesting? I tried watching the first episode out of curiosity as a result of everyone mentioning the show and I felt like my eyes were being molested.
In case this isn't clear, Fluttershy (the yellow one) is generally extremely soft spoken and timid. Animals usually love her.

It's a kids show. But so is the Powerful Girls, Samuria Jack, Dexter's Labority ect. If your a 90's kid who grew up watching Cartoon Network and loving those old shows there's a lot to love here. The dialogues funny, the characters are all well freshed out each with their own reason to like them and the animation is really, really good. Also the pony faces are hilarious. For me the show is two parts quality, one part nostalgia.

It is true that it is unapologetically "cutesy" to the point of revoltion. Either you throw up rainbows or you get over it, but it's really the thing that polorises people. To a point it's also something I think attracts a lot of people; this isn't just a good show, this is a good show ABOUT MY LITTLE PONY. No one thought something of this quality would ever come out of this source material.

The show is made by moments like this though.

to answer your question good sir i refer you to this fan made calvin and Hobbes comic the pretty much explains why we like it while dealing with the stigma that buys shouldn't enjoy such things in the way that only a clavin ad hobbs comic can

and as for the rest while tis a sad day my fellow bronys but fear not she said she was still on the project(albeit in a diminished capacity)and something tells me that she wont let her creation be made into a two bit toy hocking shill as long as shes around so i don't think we need to worry about that. and we have so much to look forward to in season 2, a cannon derpy hooves, recurring characters, and a Luna themed episode,so i say cheer up the best is yet to come!

I wholeheartedly agree :D I personally am going to need a lot of convincing for the show ever to stray from being Lauren's creation, and I don't think anybody can change the direction she set it in (especially with the fanbase that it has).

We'll probably not notice the difference, if it's different at all, by the time season 2 does finally roll around, anyway.

Just as long as they don't make another "Feeling Pinkie Keen" (shudders)
But "Feeling Pinkie Keen" was awesome and the second best episode of the series after "Sonic Rainboom"!

Well, that is fairly sad. At least she'll still be involved.

Your avvy's a My Little Pony now? Wow...I DID miss alot.

Well that's no good, hopefully the show will be just as good without her. Having said that like 99% of the internet I've never seen an episode (though I've often wondered what a MLP-themed mod for red Dead Redemption would be like).
Well since the second series of MLP doesn't air until December, I'll probably change my avatar to something Doctor Whoesk as I have a good couple already from series 6 and we're only 3 episodes in ^_^
Is it weird that I'm honestly curious as to what you'll put up?
I'm flattered. I can't make up my mind personally, I'll probably put them up in my DW group and let everyone else vote on them.

You mean Hasbro being utter tards and not releasing a DVD of season 1?
They will. THEY HAVE TO! I need my PONIES!!! And the season did just end two days ago, so give them a chance. Plus, what company turns down the chance to make free money? Unless you know something I don't know regarding the DVDs.

It's not a time thing, they announced last week that they wouldn't be releasing a DVD. There's a petition going on to Hasbro at the moment.

MyLittlePony
Stay tuned...RT @shamefulsecret: when can i get dvds/bluray of season one @MyLittlePony fim?? thanks :)~

http://twitter.com/MyLittlePony

Looks like they will announce a DVD soon.

The only previous announcement I've heard of was Hasbro responding to an email saying they had no plans for a DVD, in March. That could easily have changed.

It's sad to see Lauren Faust lose some influence on the show, but hopefully her mark doesn't go as well. If it turns back into the drivel and 20-minute commercial the other generations were, then we'll all just have to remember the first season, the one time MLP built up a sizable fandom beyond little girls.

Some of the changes do sound good though. Derpy Hooves becoming canon is great and recurring characters sounds nice as well. All is not lost yet.

Derpy becoming a character worries me a little...I mean the whole joke is her recurring random background appearances. Bringing her into the foreground is a bit of strange desition.

Now Doctor Whoof however...

Seriously, Hasbro, what's wrong with you?
