Diabetes. The thread.

Hi all, just thought i'd depress you all with a rant about diabetes.

I have type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes is when your pancreas stops producing a chemical called Insulin, which controls the blood sugar in your body, So thus you have to inject and check yourself quite a few times a day, because if you don't can lead to a Coma, or even worse... :S

I've had diabetes since i was 3, which means i've had it for a looooong time, and it does get Really.Really.Really annoying.

Take last night for example

I was staying at a friends house for tea and stuff, and before it was time to eat, i thought i'd better do my injection stuff, and then realised, i'd left it at home, which then resulted in me running home, grabbing it, running back, and by the time i was back, it was cold and i was getting dirty looks from everyone, including the dog.

ARGH.

Anyone else out there like me? or knows someone like me? or knows someone who sold a dog to someone like me? xD

First of all, welcome to the Escapist.
Secondly, I have diabetes as well, but not for as long as you have. I agree that sometimes (like the little anecdote you told) it can get annoying. The thing I hate the most is how sick you can feel after a really bad hypo. Sometimes I nearly vomit after eating that much chocolate in a short space of time.
EDIT: Type 1 BTW.

Hooray for diabetes, me too guys, infact, i think im on a hypo right now, but you know what, i don't moan about it. Just kidding, but seriously its not that bad, at least not for me anyway. (Im type 1 btw)

i know a guy like you, with diabetes, but he is lamer.. he is an incompetent, he has no physical strength he can't lift his own body.. and i\m pretty sure it's not because of the diabetes

Type 1 for the...well, not quite the win...um...howzabout...the conciliatory prize?
And I've never been that sick after being low...and I've been down to 26 before...
The worst for me is when you're incredibly high-as in your meter will not display how high your sugar is, and after you think you've taken care of it, 30 minutes later, you still feel that sandpaper in your joints and eyes, and...eugh. No fun.

i have type 1 diabetes too. had it for about, ooh, 2 years nearly. its not fun but its not life wrecking either. everyone says ive done well adjusting to it.

Guy i used to know had type 1 diabetes. He was really carefree about it though. I mean a life changing condition and he would eat loads of junk food and sweets. when i say i used to know him, he didn't die, we just haven't been in contact for years.
