I've always been a fan of the Diablo series, and the Fallout series can be summed up as "Diablo with guns" only with more of a turn based feel...
Are you kidding me?
You either haven't played Diablo, or haven't played Fallout. They are nothing alike, besides the player's perspective. And then Command and Conquer is 'Diablo with bases'.

Ugh.

More on topic, it looks good. If I ever get a gaming rig, I'll probably grab it.
I loved the first two.

I played it at BlizzCon.

Even the clearly unfinished pre-alpha build was more fun and engaging than most full release games I've played recently.

So yeah. I'm pretty excited about it coming out sometime in 2015.

Edit: They've said multiple times that it won't require any subscription to play D3 online.

I feel very meh about it.
It might still be good and addictive, but it seems to have lost most of its dark atmosphere.
It's too much like the comic-y Warcraft franchise now.
I assure you, it was very, very dark when I played ;) The audio journals that you can find actually go a really long way to contributing to the mood. There's one you find that talks about King Leoric and the events of D1, and it was actually pretty chilling to listen to as you adventured through the Tristram ruins.
I can't find the link to this one particular MTV Multiplayer interview with the lead art director for Diablo 3. It had photoshopped "suggestions" (from the people who signed the Dark Petition, no less) for some of the screenshots of the demo, then said art director states every reason why the photoshop will not work in the actual game (reasons range from being impossible from a technical standpoint, to actually hindering gameplay). I did, however, find two articles that you might interest you: Link 1 [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/07/31/diablo-iii-designer-talks-colors/] Link 2 [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/07/02/diablo-iii-art-direction/].
Yes, I know what you're talking about, I've read that interview too.

To be fair, Diablo is a gothic horror genre game not high fantasy. It is as strange to watch the Blizzard fans circle wagons to defend poor old Blizzard from any criticism as it is to watch fans get antsy about changes.
I don't think Diablo was ever meant to be a "Horror" game, Gothic yes, Horror no. The only thing that ever scared me was the Butcher from Diablo 1, and thats because I was like 6 when I first played it.

Also, I'm not so much as defending blizzard. I just would rather wait to acutally play the game before I knock it, you know?

By the way, Diablo 2 was way worse in terms of atmosphere than Diablo 1 as well. But they seriously improved gameplay and character development (especially with the new skill trees).
Which is why Back To Hellfire was so great. Best of both worlds, as they say.
I was just going to mention something about D2 colors too...

Yes it did deviate from the first games very dark look, but it worked! D2 was an amazingly popular game that drew a much larger crowd then the original and kept more people playing for a much longer amount of time.

Like I said before, I'm not going to knock it until I've tried it and I believe if its anything like the originals it will be amazing.

About the Diablo Series
Launched at the end of 1996, the original Diablo helped popularize the action role-playing-game genre, earning widespread critical and commercial success. The game's sequel, Diablo II, shipped in 2000 to similar acclaim, winning several Game of the Year awards and at the time becoming the fastest-selling computer game ever. Diablo II's award-winning expansion set, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction?, debuted in 2001, becoming Blizzard Entertainment's sixth-consecutive #1-selling game. To date, the franchise has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide.* Diablo's gothic horror theme has also inspired a number of licensed products, including novels and action figures.

Are you really going to sit there and tell me Diablo was a scary game?...

Alright so I guess it was developed with horror in mind, but like I said in my first post. It doesn't have to be black, grey and brown to be scary.

As far as I know, it can be gothic horror if it doesn't personally scare you but not so much if it is bright and happy. Even if that makes it terrifying.

I bought every other Diablo game including Hellfire within a month of the release, so why not buy Diablo 3? I just hope it takes at least a few months for someone to develop trainers so I can get some decent gaming in. I hate those things.

It's Blizzard.
They're going to fuck it up.

But I'm still going to pre-order or buy on the day of release, lol, I loved the Diablo series too much.

That's it, get out. Now.

On a less rude note, there's no way Fallout is Diablo with guns. It seems that story, characterization, interesting quests, roleplaying, depth, a unique setting, originality and making an unique character bear little weight in your opinions of games.

Everything always looks good before it comes out. Then it comes out and turns out to be crap. Such is life. I do think it looks great though, and I can't wait for the release.
just think of it this way. Blizzard always works until they feel the game is a good presentation of their company. This is why ghost was killed off after years of work. With blizzard I am never worried that their game will be great.
I meant in general. I didn't mean to imply that D3 would be a let down.

does anyone read the entire thread or do I have to edit my OP?
I meant artistically speaking. If one more person calls me off for this, I am going to go throw stones at a random idiot wandering down my street.
