Well the DICE 2009 summit has just hosted its awards cermony and as you can, LittleBigPlanet really cleaned up. Some awards i agree with but most i really do not (needed more Fallout and why on earth is WoW in there?!)

If any of you actually care about gaming awards (im starting not to) then what do you think? Does LBP deserve this mountain of awards or did something else?

I guess if I was a game designer I would've be in awe of the level editor in LBP? I dunno, is DICE a craftsman show? Not exactly the same thing as a popularity contest.

I'm actually suprised LBP is doing so well. IMO I didn't like the game, probably because I have little creativity and the game is mostly set around the creation aspect.

Its supposed to be an online game but how is that possible with the amount of lagg that is there.

Not not the mountain of award it got, it is a good new ideal, but like the wii, it is filled with bad user levels, that suck. Sure some are good but morst are crap, the realy good one are the one in single player.

At about the award, DICE award, have little sway in my choices. spike, e3,xplay and TGS awards are the only one's I pay attention to.

Well DICE awards are called the Oscars of videogaming (which kinda has some truth).

Its hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences and focuses a lot on innovation, i just fail to see there reasoning behind some awards.

This I disagree with. I think that Valkyria Chronicles deserves this award to be honest. This is just due to the "CANVAS" engine which is brilliant.

Role-Playing Game of the Year:
Fallout 3

Again a disagreement. No way is Fallout 3 the RPG of the year. In my opinion this goes to either Valkyria Chronicles or Eternal Sonata. Again Valkyria Chronicles is brilliant in the field of RPG and is innovative. Fallout 3 feels like Oblivion but with a Fallout skin. Well at least Fable 2 didn't get this.

I disagree with the OP on two points. First of all WoW is in there because it is one of the best of MMORPGs on the market at the year at the moment. Furthermore Fallout 3 didn't deserve more awards. I would probably only give it, well I wouldn't give it anything...I'm not that big a fan of it. I agree with most of them though. Except, since I'm a football (soccer) nut I would've put FIFA 09 as best sports game.

I'm pretty sure the DICE summit is voted by developers, so its the oscars of the game world, if that is the case ... and if I was a developer, I'd be voting for LBP with what they have done with that game.

Its the old way of making games but up to about 5 years ahead of the curve.

I think a few other games deserve to go up there.
EG. Tales of vesperia and any other games.
LBP is way too overrated.

It is nice to see Dead Space in a GOTY list. Not that I think it is worthy of the actual GOTY but it seemed to have gotten overlooked by alot of other sites.

And to answer the question NO it does not. It hardly seems right that they slap the code they use to make the game on a disc and expect the players to make the levels to make the game fun. Sounds like they pulled a Tom Sawyer on us. Boy painting this fence sure is fun.

Braid won casual award !?!?!?!?!
I loved it, it stood out from the other "casual" games I played last year, and for that matter more than other games I paid a pretty penny more for. What would have been your choice?

LBP really was a fantastic game. Did it deserve to win that many awards? Who's to say. But it appeals to so many different demographics, it's hard to ignore that. The game is very good on many different fronts at once.

keep in mind that Valyria is more strategy than RPG. It also doesnt go into nearly as much depth than fallout 3 RPG wise, where valkyria's RPG aspect is very very simple.

I can generally agree with these awards. Plus, Dead Space won some awards and deservedly so. I hate giving EA praise but Dead Space is a steller achievement considering it's pedigree. Sure, it wasn't the game a lot of people were expecting or wanting but I found it to be worth playing through to the end. Twice.

I cannot comment on LBP, having not played the game. I generally agree with the fallout mentions and Braid (though, Braid's art direction left me somewhat stunned). L4D's praise is well deserved in my book. SSBB's mention is almost certainly going to be contentious, but I'd probably favor it before Soul Caliber IV.

LBP is good, but maybe not that good. Was happy to see the nods to Dead Space though.
