Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Note that this is a small spoiler for those that have not beaten the game: At the end of the game when you're Desmond and you're climbing up to the apple there are two switches after every climb sequence. One raises more platforms so you can continue, the other one LOWERS all the platforms forcing you to go back and start it over again............BULL CRAP!!!
If you use Eagle vision you can tell. I actually made it to the last one with out choosing the wrong one randomly.

Biggest dick move? In Fable 3 where the days drop from 150 to 1 out of freakin no where, causing me to lose literally 5.5 million of the 6.5 million citizens of Albion.
That was fucking annoying. Most of the population died and I was so angry that I took the game out. Now I can't find it and trade in that piece of crap.

Whenever any game does (WARNING, tv tropes link)this [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LostForever], unless acceptable by merit of it having a morality-system.

Otherwise this crap is just inexcusable.

it's not all that big of a dick move but in pokemon black and white the true leader of team plasma ghetsis has a hydregion (a hydra like pokemon) 10 levels BEFORE it can even be evolved.
another one is with pokemon availability the pokemon vullaby is unavailable in white version and it's counterpart braviary cannot be found in black and to find either on the GTS you have to SEE them first.

Xenogears, late in the game there's a boss who knocks your entire party's health down to 1 point each. Since you fight the boss with mechs, the only way to replenish health is by severely decreasing your own fuel supply and odds are the bastard will use that move again before you kill him, but then you have to fight another boss immediately after this who has an annoying gimmick to beating them. Also if you lose the second fight, you have to both go through the first on and watch the long unskippable cutscenes all over again.

Final Fantasy XI: Absolute Virtue. Game developer dickery at its best.
Ahahaha. So true. A few have been able to beat AV, though. But I still don't know if anyone has beat the Pandemonium Warden, especially after the 2 hour despawn timer.

What I love the most is that when SE put the despawn timer onto those mobs, all they told the community was "You're just doing it wrong, morons. It's not that hard." I find that quite funny. I mean, in a gaming world where difficulty curves are getting lower and bosses are getting easier, it's nice to see someone sticking to the "They'll figure it out eventually" theory of gameplay.
The XI playerbase has figured out how to kill both AV and PW. In fact we figured out PW before AV.

Awaiting next unstoppable force of destruction please!

Not to mention it auto-saves right after! Seriously...what the hell King? Did you go into a 150-day coma and forgot about the giant tentacle monster about to rape your city?
I was actually disappointed in the crawler. It wasn't that giant and it didn't have tentacles. It was just an 8 foot tall skinny thing with an ugly face.

Water Temple. Ocarina of Time.

Enough said.
Oh do give it a rest. It was not that bad, for fuck sakes!! I've beaten that game something like 10 times, and damn it I could think of dungeons way worse than that one!
Perhaps you'd prefer to play games on Super Easy Mode.

OT: Any game that uses Random Encounters. Damn that's annoying. When I'm trying to figure out how to get through a given dungeon I don't want enemies popping up every 2 bloody seconds. It's also rather disconcerting when I'm trying to get to the next town for enemies to pop up every 2 paces. And why is it when I actually want the enemies to show up they're more scarce than a fur coat at a nudist colony.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. Charging full price for a game with almost 0 replay value that takes 3 and a half hours to beat. Lucas Arts should give everyone who bought that game a refund. Twice.

Really, though, one has to ponder about the nature of cruel design in Roguelikes, the genre that consists almost entirely of it.

The biggest dick moves in game design that I've had to deal with lately is bad ports for both Rogue and NetHack, both of which lost my save.

That wizard was the furthest I have ever gotten in NetHack legit, and further than I've ever explored in Wizard mode, even.
I... just havent' been able to bring myself to play them in months over that.

Hmm most recently, the talking stealth suit in New Vegas: old world blues. 'Ready steady fighty. All out of stimpaks. Don't have anything for that injury. Turn off your pip-boy light. No more enemies. Here is some med-x, YOU ARE NOW ADDICTED TO MED-X.' And it's the only decent armor in the DLC...

And then it guilts you for taking it off. :\

Fallout 3 -

*Turning Harold into a tree, rooted in the ground so that he may never appear in another Fallout game ever again.
*Forcing us to go to Little Lamplight during the main quest.
*Forcing us to join the BoS in the main quest.
*Making the GECK blow up when we activated it
*Forcing us to sacrifice ourself or Lyons instead of letting our radiation immune companion activate the purifier.

Pretty much the whole game was a dick move. However, letting Obsidian make New Vegas was a very good and welcome move.
