I did until I reached the castle, and the re-generators were a bit scary but I had enough grenades to not be worried.

Also the one boss fight in that burning building freaked me out.

I would say it has a creepy atmosphere, and it's good at evoking the feeling that there's always the chance of something dangerous around every corner. But no, not really scary.

hehe, whenever resident evil 4 is mentioned i remember that people kept telling me i was playing the game wrong because in the village i didn't run into a house to hide but i just moved back up the path and basically shot villagers coming at me along a straight line. So i never got why people were going on about that fight.

It was scary or unsettling in the sense that you had to murder unholy horrors before they murdered you with an assortment of weapons- and in the startled sort of way where things would happen suddenly. But it never really unnerved me or kept me up at night. Never had to tell myself not to think about it when I was trying to get sleep, etc. It never made me want to turn the game off when I was (as far as I knew) alone in a corridor.

Amnesia did that for me.

I has a creepy atmosphere, its like the original Devil May Cry, yes you are overpowered but still moments of extreme intensity.

I found it hilarious. But fighting the regenerators (I think that's their name) was pretty scary.
Oh, so true. Especially when you've got no more rifle ammo. The only thing you can do then is blow their legs of with a shotgun blast, and hope they stay down long enough for you to run away.

And don't even THINK of running past them, even if they've got neither legs nor face. They'll just jump up and bite your neck off!

Brr... frightening creatures...

The only thing I dislike about it is that its genre is supposed to be "action/horror,"
Umm... "horror" and "scary" are not the same thing. If horror games had to be scary, then the only horror games out there would be Penumbra and Amnesia.

No, I didn't find it scary. And I will tell you why - you are Leon MotherF***ing Kennedy, how could anything be scary when you are A: crushing skulls with your suplex; B: spouting off incredibly campy one liners like Ash Williams.

However, the first fight with the blind Garriador in the castle was a bit creepy. Although, when you are being pursued by a Napoleon-look-alike and giant robots etc....

It was scary at times, with the Regenerators and hearing the Villager's yelling (or a chainsaw) just outside your door when you have little health and ammo left, but it was mainly silly. I mean, they can't write dialogue like "Your hand comes off?" and think we are going to take it seriously.
YOU'RE SMALL TIME!

OT: The Regenerators were pretty intense but I never felt scared during any of it.

Nah...I didn't even find the Regenerators to be scary. (Mostly because I'd played Killer 7, where EVERY SINGLE ENEMY IS AN INVISIBLE REGENERATOR! They're called Heaven Smiles. God, that game was fucked up.)

Resident Evil 4 was a pretty amazing game, though...don't think it should be classified as horror, though. Same with RE5 and Dead Space 2.

Edit: This is one of them. They don't all look like this, though.

The part where you play as Ashley was genuinly scary to me, it had ambiance, atmosphere, and you had practically no means of defending yourself.

However it just wasn't as fun as shooting "Zombie" heads off as Leon.

I do not think any of the Resident Evil games are scary. Atmospheric and creepy sometimes, but never scary.

It was my first horror game so I thought it was scary the first time. Then after playing it about literally 60 times, and have grown up a little, I've realized how silly it is. Don't get me wrong I still love the game and regard it as my most favorite of all time. I like it for the same reason I like DBZ, it's campy, cheesy, and filled with plot holes, but I still love it.

no. there were times when it could have been and was expecting scary stuff but when those scenarios arrived, the game seemed to breeze past them. the scariest point was when someone i'd knowcked over stood up and his face was right in front of the camera so his face suddenly took up the ENTIRE screen. the REmake and Code Veronica were scarier.

Definitely the first time I played it. It was at night and I had the lights turned off and the sound way up. Oh, and at that point I hadn't figured out that lack of creepy music meant it was safe (that really ruined the creepiness of it when I figured that out).

Other parts scared me too... those chainsaws. The flaming body bursting out at me. After the first runthrough, though, it lost ALL scariness for me. Then I turned it on professional mode and had a different kind of scary.... scared to stay alive.

Brilliant game. One of my top 5 favorite of all time.

Well I played the opening section, screamed like a ***** at the appearence of the Spanish Leatherface-wannabe, turned the game off, vaulted the controller across the room and ran away, never to return to it ever again.

So yes, I find it absolutely fucking terrifying!!!
